Gotta love it when the fake news media gets fist fucked by the truth. They've been doing this for years with no repercussions. Remember MSNBC editing the police recording by George Zimmerman saying only that "...He's Black..." in reference to Trayvon Thug Martin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSkpPaiUF8s It's even worse now with the Media being rabidly anti-Trump.
Catholic brats? They were in Washington to support the annual March For Life. So catholic students peacefully supporting their pro life stance. Wearing MAGA hats. They were supporting the President of the United States. The students (kids), were waiting to go home when they were engaged by adults. They were simply waiting around, supporting their catholic beliefs while wearing a hat that the mainstream media says is wrong, supporting the POTUS.

They are going to have a huge struggle getting anywhere against the newspapers - libel is tough vs first amendment. They probably have a better shot against some of the celebrities, but even that is going to be a rough haul. The First Amendment makes defamation a really high bar in the US.
With all the lawsuits on the US none are for slander? This was nationwide news that was made up. " Should " be an easy win.
And you would think that someone who plays a witch on TV would be against witch hunts. Oh well.

The statement must be false.
The statement must have caused defamation or damage to your reputation.
The person must have published the defamatory statement to a third party.
The defamatory statement must obviously be about you or a particular person.
i think the published New York Times article covers all 4 points. 1st Amendment does not allow you to lie to push your political agenda.

i think the published New York Times article covers all 4 points. 1st Amendment does not allow you to lie to push your political agenda.
We know the Media (including social media) can pretty much say anything about a politician. We also know that they have a lot of liberty commenting on those in the public eye. But what, just what, if they say absolutely deceptive and malicious things about a "civilian". A person who just happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. To make matters worse, it's a young teenager. But hey, you despise what he stands for or at least what you think he stands for or what his parents stand for.
This will be an interesting case if it makes it into court. I'm guessing major media outlets accused will simply want to settle and keep this out of the public eye. With a divided country arguing about "fake news", do Liberal media outlets will want a court demonstrating and determining for the entire nation what is "fake news". Do CNN, NYTimes, etc. want Trump tweeting repeatedly about their deception and risk having a court validate him?
However, if this makes it into a court, it's not a slam dunk. There's some subjective interpretation to made of the video clips. I think courts will be cautious in penetrating the Media's 1st Amendment rights.
