Look behind you.
I have a good friend I have known for 45 years, since I moved to Quebec awhile ago we still kept on contact, at least once a month.
Called him today to see if he was availabe for lunch and his mom answered, he has lung, liver and brain cancer with three weeks to live.
Just left the hospital, not a cheerful reunion.
He was going to retire at the end of May, he saved close to two million, buy either a R-8, 911 turbo or top of the line corvette, move to BC and golf and fish.his remaining years.
He now wishes he travelled more, went out more, bought the car earlier, basically do a lot of stuff earlier.
So.... Live a ittle while you can.

My condolences to your friend and to yourself. As we get older this seems to happen more often than not. I've lost a few friends this way as well. Tough times. It is difficult sometimes to convince yourself to live life to the fullest : you can always convince yourself it will last longer than it might.

My condolences STN, to your friend and his family, its not easy, having gone through this already twice in my life, i can relate with you.

The first time i came across this situation, i was confused and i wanted my friend to get better quick and we could resume with our daily life but the end came, i grieved, i learned to continue without him in my life, but his presence is there a lot so i didn't feel like he was gone. Second time i was in this position, i would pray for god to take him as quickly as possible, the suffering i observed is not meant for human beings. I wish your friend a smooth and painless time for his remaining days.

Sometimes it takes a sad reminder like this to tell us that we should appreciate each moment but more than that, to MAKE memorable moments! Lying on my bed when I’m old, I hope I’ll remember all the pleasure I got to have! And friends too.
Even if I went against social convention to get that pleasure, lol.
Pleasure is SO important, it gives you a reason to live and heals the soul. The people on MERB know this mindset, but hedonism in general still isn’t very popular. I do find that out of Canadians though, it seems to me that Quebecers are the ones who know how to work hard AND play hard.

STN I am sorry for your friend.

Two years ago I had a little lump taken out of my head. I am okay now but look at life a lot differently.

STN, I feel your pain, it's happened to me...

Last summer I wanted to track down a musician buddy of mine that I hadn't seen in over 15 years, so I visited the old hometown church where I knew his mom was a member. When I met her I asked about her son and she (with tears in her eyes) told me that he had died of cancer a week before and that she had just returned from his funeral. He was about 62 years old. And then in November of last year, my wife was in the recliner chair in the living room watching TV as I went to bed. The next morning I got up early and saw her still asleep in the chair. I touched her arm to wake her....and it was cold, she had died peacefully during the night of a heart attack. She was 56 years old.

Look behind you.
Thanks for all the well wishes to my friend and to those who have also lost someone my condolences. I am in my 60's and have lost over 20 very good friends throughout the years either through cancer, overdoses, car accidents, suicide or other medical reasons, the numbers will go up it is a part if life, sad part.
Went to meet my friend this morning, a good friend of his had the same cancer two years ago and he visited him every second day for the two weeks ( yes it hit him that quick as he refused treatment and gave up ), he says near the end his friend was in immense pain which he does not want and it scares him. He asked me to bring him a massive speedball so he can stop the pain when he decides enough is enough, on the fence about this but may grant him his final request.
For those of you who have amassed a large sum of money, plan to treat yourself in the future, do it now if you can afford it, you never know what tomorrow brings.

When we are all (hopefully) sitting around in heaven for eternity, no one is going to say "I wish I spent more time at the office". Spend time with your family, have a cigar, go fishing, spend some quality time with an SP.

I was looking at a Porsche Turbo one day at lunch. That afternoon a friend was riding his bike in Montreal and was hit by a truck...killed instantly. I said, time is short and I bought the car first thing next morning.
Who knows how much time we have, enjoy what you have.
