Long layover in Montreal

Hello everyone,

Benn reading through some of the prior threads about a layover in Montreal....

I’m arriving on a Thursday at the beginning of April at 1:30pm and leaving 8:15pm so almost a 7 hour layover. My luggage will be checked through and I have Nexus but traveling in economy and no airline status.

I’m sure it’s fine to get downtown but if I grab some food and/or see a lady, would I have enough time to get back to the airport given that it would be the start of rush hour around then?

the problem is there are is no train from the airport, only bus (a direct one, but still a bus). then there is the issue of airline delays, which are common and can derail your plans

I would take the 747 bus to Lionel Groulx and stay in that area, as there are several incalls nearby, plus it is slightly closer to the airport than getting deep inside downtown in rush hour and winter conditions
I would book from 3.30pm to 4.30pm/ 5pm max, then take the 747 back to the airport and grab dinner there,

another option:
there is a massage parlor le penthouse, that is near the airport

Is 7 hours long enough to see someone downtown, eat and get back to the airport?

Depending on the time, road conditions etc. it could take 40 to 45 mins to get downtown. Then from there you’d want to head to a SP so maybe a 10 mins more to get to the address, brings you to almost 1h just to get to the place.

Maybe you’d like to spend 1h with her.

You’re probably going to be hungry so you’d like to eat something. If you’re not so much of a fast food guy and wants something more consistent, add 40 mins

You’re already at 1h40 +/-

Then another maybe 60 mins to get back to the airport, so 2h40


But nothing is as simple in life and there could be delays both on the plane or on the road…

Get a room at the Marriott in the terminal, have food and/or sex brought to you. (just check in advance, many indy's don't like going to the airport hotels)

I’ve stayed there a few times & didn’t find it very ideal to receive guests. I did go downtown many times though by using the 747 bus. It went quite well. Strange i was always under the impression that the VIA rail train made a stop near the airport (Dorval station) & often considered trying it. Thought i saw a small train station near the airport hotels. But from reading some of the posts here maybe i was mistaken.

There's no train to the airport, but there's a shuttle from this Dorval station to the airport, which takes about 20 minutes. And the train is not cheap; it would not be worth it from downtown to Dorval. I don't even think you can buy tickets for this stretch. We are waiting for the REM to be built and serve the airport, which will be a safe way to go without traffic for about $5$.

Access to Montreal's airport may not be the worst in the world but it's surely in the top 10.

I’ve used a similar rail system in Toronto & recently Ottawa & they’re great!

Yeah, there's a keycard needed for the elevators but like many places, the staff know exactly what's going on and they don't give a fuuuu

No, it's just an innocent guess since, if I'm not mistaken, the price is 4,75$ right now. But of course, the cost might be higher in five or ten years.

Pretty certain the price right now (for public transportation to/from YUL, which is via 747 bus), is around 11$.

My guess the past few years is the REM replacement to the 747, (and since paying for a car to do the route is about $45),

the REM YUL ticket might be priced specially set tickect in between... so under $20.
