my (admittedly limited) understanding is that it isn't a kink at all and is generally a non-sexual practice, so not sure your analogy fits, but again I admit to ignorance and am perfectly happy to be corrected by anyone more knowledgeable if that's the case.

I can understand the enjoyment of anonymity from wearing a fursuit, even in non-sexual contexts. It may be preferable for people who are anxious about being in public.

I put it in the exact same category as people who buy expensive clothes and flashy material goods outside of their means. It's the creation of a persona (or fursona) to live a life that isn't like your normal one.
