The pool of SPs is not infinite for sure, though MERB only covers a very small fraction of the sex industry in Montreal. There are dozens of agencies and indies who advertise on newspapers and have never been reviewed here. There are dozens of strippers and strip club clients who do not care a bit about review boards. The boards in general are far from being reflective of what is really going on in Montreal. So maybe, instead of relying on sports and celebrity news to bring traffic to MERB, it would be better to find a way to motivate the clients of agencies who post on JDM to post reviews. Motivation can start by avoiding repressive measures towards new members who forgot to read the rules. Hell, I never read a sites' rules or TOS, there are just so many of them. Should my first posts on those sites be welcomed by a ban? Some of your Mods seem just to enjoy banning newcomers, not good for business.
The lounge section does not seem to be that popular anymore based on the number of people who are currently viewing this section at any random time. The number of visitors viewing the Lounge section dropped to 10-15 in the past 2 weeks. Besides, the threads being posted there are being rehashed over and over again.
There is an assumption that every related business is interested in advertising in a specific venue - be it Merb or any similar board. Far from true.
As HFE has stated there are sex industry related businesses in the Montreal area and throughout Quebec that do not advertise on this venue or similar venues. They know about the sites but for their own reasons choose not to participate. Likewise there are "hobbyists" and SPs who know about the sites but choose not to participate.
From a business standpoint, competing entities rarely support the same program or advertising vehicle. Not all beer producers advertise on the Super Bowl telecast, etc. Also true for the sex industry - board advertisers do not all advertise in the JDM nor do they all advertise in the print media. Variety of reasons exist for this situation. Doubling the advertising budget will not double revenues especially if you cannot handle double the demand. In fact such a situation could hurt the business since the resulting negative comments could drive existing business away. Paying for Montreal viewership while serving a limited region close to Montreal does not make sense nor does advertising on a primarily English venue without the ability to service or respond properly.
As for the main focus of the thread it may be matter of quality vs quantity which may be much harder to analyze. Someone's definition of quality may be at odds with another's.
Also there is another issue why is there a very limited participation from the overwhelming majority of registered handles, over 35,000 registered but post activity do not reflect numbers - daily viewership and posting, that mainstream boards - sports, science, specific interest, etc generate.
