Montreal Hotel Recommendations ?

I am making a trip to Montreal in June with some buddies. Does anyone have a recommendation for a nice, reasonably priced hotel near the Expos ballpark? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Do a search on www.expedia.ca . I suggest you book very early as June is pretty busy and during the Grand Prix you can't get a room and prices are at least double . I would also suggest getting a room downtown and taking the subway to the ball park . Subway is great in MTL and there is a station right at the park . Ballpark area is not the 'nicest 'of areas ie industrial with neighbouring lower income housing .
Clean , middle of the road accomodations would include the Sheareton Four Points on Sherbrooke st or the Delta on Predident Kennedy st.

I agree-probably more fun staying downtown, but if you really want to stay near the big O there is the Auberge Universal right across the street and is quite popular.

Wyndham Montreal

Great Hotel with attached mall. There's an SAQ, pharmacy, supermarket and foodcourt in the mall. Practically next to Chinatown so lots of great but affordable restarauants nearby and a ten minute walk to Old Montreal. Only problem is that its at the edge of downtown and is a five minute walk to the main shopping area.

Anything Similar to the Grange Apartment/Hotel?

Is there anything comparable in downtown Montreal to the Grange Apartment/Hotel in Toronto? The Grange's a clean but no-frills suite-style condo with kitchenette. The peak summer rate is only $65 U.S. Also, it has free parking and is right next to Chinatown, so there's a lot of good restaurants.

I know that Montreal escort rates are even lower than Toronto's. The girls from LFMJ charge $95 U.S./hour. I'm pinching myself to make sure that this isn't a dream, but so far, the exorbitant hotels rates have kept me from going there.

<self correction> OK, Expedia's messed up. It only showed the fifteen most expensive hotels while giving zero data on the 30+ other hotels. Oh, boy, and I thought I had found heaven -- Toronto -- but then I find there's another heaven with cream-filled pies. Giggles uncontrollably and dies from pure joy. <end self correction>

Update: I visited the Grange on my last visit to Toronto just to make sure I'm not checking into a dump on my next visit. I promptly cancelled the reservation. The guy who wouldn't stop tooting the hotel's horns on Expedia must be an employee or an owner.

The Chateau Royal Hotel Suites sounds like a good fit with a great location in the centre of the shopping area although some people have complained that its a little run-down. USD 65 sounds like the winter rate for this place on Expedia , summer rates for all Montreal hotels are considerably higher due to all the festivals, etc. If you want to save on accomodations and are seeing only the lower-priced escorts like those from LFMJ and Asservissante, the motels might be a good choice.

Thanks for your recommendations. Dave in Phoenix used the Chateau Royal and also mentioned the Best Western which are only a block apart. The CR has large suites but inefficient AC units. Funny how these two mid-price hotels right in downtown cannot even be found on Expedia and Travelocity. The fall rates I found are $79-$89 U.S. a night, in the range that you guys mentioned. Reasonable enough. I'm looking to get pampered, but not by the hotel staff.

Are LFMJ and Asservissante considered bargain escort agencies in Montreal, or they mid-grade? According to Robin's (?) spreadsheet, their price of $140 is low but not uncommon in Montreal. To which Toronto agencies would you compare LFMJ and Asservissante?

These two agencies don't have close equivalents, even in Montreal. I doubt you will find equivalents in another city. You can consider $140-160/hr agencies to be the lower middle rung. The basement agencies are the $100/hr ones.

Absolutely NO reason to stay near Olympic Stadium, IMHO. Subway will take you right there. You'll want to stay downtown near the nightlife. Two possibilities that are very convenient to Crescent street and can be gotten reasonably are BW Europa and Novotel. For Novotel, check out a travel site called, oddly, octopus travel, (octopustravel.com). I've seen a Fri-Sat night weekend quoted at about $140 US for both nights and the price includes taxes.

One proviso, I understand that it is very difficult, and very expensive, to get accomodations on Grand Prix weekend. Other weekends, you should be OK.

"Fantasme" vs. LFMJ & Asservissante

I consider Fantasme to be a great equivalent to those two agencies. The best, in terms of quality (but lesser service) is Asservissante. Service-wise, LFMJ.....but you give some in terms of looks. From my perspective, Fantasme is somewhere in between.....and the night guy named Eric is great to deal with. He reminds me a lot of Martin of Asservissante.

Rates are only $140 for the first hour, $110 for the rest. A bargain! I used to spend twice that amount in stripbars offering 'air dances'.

Ace of Diamonds is also a pretty decent agency, compared to the former. It was highly recommended by an sp friend of mine.

Hotels

I prefer the Delta on President Kennedy. It has an underground garage ( I hate having to deal with valet parking late at night) and the rooms are great. I have never had any problems with women coming up ( sometimes two at a time )at all hours of the night. I also sometimes will stay at the Wyndham, becuase it is very convienient ( except for the valet Parking)..but the rooms are not as nice as the Delta. I have not had any problems with visitors at the Wyndhan either. I have stayed at the Ritz and the Queen Elizabeth...but have not had "company" (strictly business) there. I usually book through expedia...but have been looking at Cheaptickets.com for my next trrip. They have last minute getaways ( 2-3 day notice) and the prices are great. I will post my resouts if i do use them

a good area (i think) is around bleury and sherbrooke ( sherbrooke west around 400 -600) this is near the delta, l'apartment hotel (seemed reasonable) , close to st.lawrence street and downtown.

"Two thumbs down to the Vogue"

I recently returned from Mtl and was told by a friend staying at the Vogue that you now required a room card to be able to use the elevator, as i've seen in a few other hotels elsewhere. However, this system is being used on a 24 hr basis at the Vogue, after verifying the situation myself.

My friend found it a total drag having to go wait at the lobby for his lady guest upon arrival. He expressed his displeasure to the hotel staff with this new arrangement, and was told it would be a permanent situation. He will not return to that hotel in the future.

When i mentionned this to a lady friend i saw the other day, she mentionned that from what she heard, this hotel is trying to discourage sp's from going there. She mentionned that she always got hassled by the doormen when she would arrive, questionning her on her name, motive to be there, and whom she was coming to see. She would always invent a name and excuse, since she realized that most clients don't want their names or pastimes to be told to anyone, naturally.

A former great sp at Mtl Gf's whom i had seen on many occasions once had told me that of all the hotels in Mtl she had been to, the one she had the most problems with when entering the premises was the Vogue. Others have told me they never had problems, others collaborated the young lady's claims.

Now that a room card is required to use the elevator at all times, well, i'd advise my former fellow hobbyists to avoid this hotel since it has obviously become unfriendly to sp's.

Any other hotels where this system is in place 24 hrs a day? The only one i had seen using this system was the Westin Hotel in Ottawa. Others, such as the Novotel, have this system after 10pm or so, which is not so bad.

hotels that have the "right" amenities

I find that I gravitate to those hotels that provide the right kind of amenities for the hobby. Places that impede a lady on the wway in or have her check in don't appeal to me and I had looked at the vogue as a possible destination..I am glad that info was provided regarding the elevator card. I have had that difficulty in the past when staying on the club level at the Ritz...and if I plan on playing, I will do without the extra perks.

Auberge Casa de Mateo

I'm planning a trip to Montreal in the next couple of months, and came across the Auberge Casa de Mateo. The price is definitely right, but it also sets off alarm bells. Another thing that worries me is that I'm finding it listed in some places as a bed and breakfast, but not in others.

Has anybody stayed at the Auberge Casa de Mateo, and if so could they give me an idea of whether or not it's worth staying there or not. (Information of whether they're SP-friendly or not would be nice, but is not a necessity.)

The only casa da matteo I am aware of is a well know Mexican restaurant in old Montreal-perhaps they have an Inn attached-where is it located..I would think that if you plan to have company in and out a larger hotel might be more appropirate(B& B and Inns tend to know everyone who is a guest)

Regarding hotels in montreal.
I think that larger hotels may be better way to go for some hotels that do not discourage late nite visitors although you should be discreet.
Hotel de la montagne.
This is one of Montreal's best hotels imho
with great bars, rooftop terrace pool / bar, Thursdays bar, restaurant and disco. This hotel is in the heart of downtown. often they give special rates (not grand prix week) and because of all the action happening in the building there is alot of coming and going (ha ha) so less conspicuous. ( also traditionally this was one of the hotels to bring mistresses/ escorts)
Ruby foos .
This hotel is more on outskirts of downtown but reasonably priced pretty comfortable and as well there are entrances thru the lobby and thru the restaurant.
Hotel St Denis
This hotel is right downtown a few doors away from the St Denis restaurant and bar area and is reasoably priced (89.00 cdn)


Some tips you can try.
Call the hotel directly by phone and ask if you can book rooms to have your kids grad "after party" or your best friends bachelor party at the hotel. If they say no problem then escorts should be ok.
Or if you have the guts ask them directly if it is a problem if you have a late night guest who is driving in from quebec city to come and visit you. (Thats what I did when I went to Toronto)
If any hotel tells you that you need card key to use the hotel elevator or the club elevator late nite then you will be sitting in the lobby waiting for the sp.
Usually with exception of Vogue and some other stuck up hotels, the staff at the Hotels in Montreal are tactful and accomodating as they are aware that some of Montreal's attraction to visitors is of a clandestine nature

Hotel de la Montagne

I'll second the recommendation for the Hotel de la Montagne. I stayed at the Vogue last February (before the recent crackdown) and although it was nice, it wasn't appreciably better than the Montagne but it was considerably more expensive. About the only bad thing I can say about the Montagne is that it has the smallest elevators I've ever seen at any major hotel. You may have to wait bit during busy times.

I've been intrigued by this hotel, but all I ever see rate-wise is the so-called "rack rate," usually about $185 CDN. Are there better rates available and how do you get them?

That's usually what you end up paying. I don't think the Montagne particpates in any of the online discounting services.
