Eastender,

Eggspectation is a franchise:

http://www.eggspectation.com/

I have eaten at 3 different locations and have not noticed a discernible difference in the quality of the food and the menu is the same at all locations.

That being said I understand some franchises are better run than others. However, I am more inclined to believe that the hotels surrounding the Eggspectation on St. Jacques have more to do with the violations than the incompetence of the franchisee in running that location.

I assume Eggspectation can terminate any franchise agreement if the franchisee does not adhere to certain standards. Whether they choose to do so or not may be interesting to know.

just on thing, eggspectation on st-jacques is closed since at least this fall so it's really a moot point to talk about that one

I found this review in this morning's New York Times:

http://travel.nytimes.com/travel/gu...al/33004/eggspectation/restaurant-detail.html

However, I do not see that location listed on the Eggspectation website. Were they shut down?????? I have not been able to find anything on the closure, other than their absence on the Eggspectation website.

EagerBeaver;

I just realized that I would eat at this Eggspectations location when I'd stay at the Le Saint Sulpice. Never noticed any problems.

Problems usually occur in areas that patrons can't see. Like the kitchen.

Just because it's called "Eggspectations" doesn't mean that the people operating that particular franchise are doing a good job running it.

I for one am happy this list exists, consumers need to be aware.

Interesting how alot of these places are of indian/asian cuisine

I have eaten at the following places on this list:

In New York City restaurants have to post a score card in their window. If they did this in Montreal there would be no violators.

I don't know how familiar you guys are with the New York restaurant scene but it is quite different than elsewhere. For one thing, they discriminate against chains in an effort to preserve the mom and pop businesses of the world. I remember walking into a Haagen Daaz ice cream store on Broadway and 112th and I noticed that every single dish on the menu marquis on the wall had a calorie count. I never had seen this before, and thought it bizarre, because after all who goes into an ice cream store caring about how much calories they will consume? However, other ice cream stores owned by sole proprietors are not required to do the same thing. When I mentioned this to Chercherfemmes he told me it's a law imposed on chain stores. I told CCF it sounded discriminatory and unconstitutional under the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment of the US constitution. Even big, greedy corporations have the right to equal treatment and protection under the law. CCF said that and $2.25 gets you on the subway in NYC. I am not sure why a big company like Haagen Daaz puts up with this kind of shit.

New York City also has recently imposed restrictions and regulations forbidding supersizing of beverages.

I notice they are also aggressive in shutting down restaurants that are non-compliant. As Mario Batali mentioned, some of this is viewed as a shakedown for revenue within the restaurant industry. I noticed that some of the restaurants they have shut down in Chinatown are the biggest revenue producers. They don't care about people who are not making much money.
