The Deer Hunter (1978). The Russian roulette scene in the Viet Cong prison camp. Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken and John Savage. I saw this film when it first came out in theaters. During this scene I could feel the tension in the theater rise. Very intense.

I agree that it was a very intense scene in that movie. But personally i felt that the russian roulette scene in Saigon near the end of the movie was even more intense than this one since you knew that one of the movie’s two main characters were most likely to die in that one.

That was a very intense scene and John Savage delivered the best performance of his career in that movie.

Not a movie. But Beth's rape scene in Yellowstone was very intense in many ways. The fact that she has no respect for her feminity due to her infertility and the level of anger she has. She's one of my favorite since Walter White.

Totally agree, those scenes haunted me for a long time, they are the firsts to come to my mind when I saw the title of this tread. I saw the Deer Hunter in a theater when it was released, I was 17 and got out of there traumatized, I am not easily impressed when watching a movie as I tend to scrutinize every single details, but these scenes had such realism to them with the tension and the clicking sound of the gun, I can still hear it.

This thread has gotten a little bit off track. With my original post I posted 3 intense scenes. My intention was to invite others to post actual videos of intense movie scenes rather than just talk about them. All you need to do is a quick search and you can find videos of the scenes under discussion. Just an example and this was a 5 second search on my part:
If the scene gives you nightmares all you have to do is post a link. You don't need to watch it but others can and they can decide how intense the scene is.

1. Alien (1979) - Alien birth scene
...
2. Jaws (1975) - Hooper Finds Ben Gardner's boat (and poor Ben)
...
3. Friday the 13th (1980)- penultimate scene with "Jason"
...
Pretty much any horror movie is going to be full of scenes like this, so not sure they're worth mentioning (they are good scenes though).

Movies where they come out of nowhere (Reservoir Dogs, Scarface, Godfather, etc), I find a bit more interesting.

For all the times we have to redirect ovious questions to already existing treads or websites in regular treads, I'm so grateful I had someone do a search for me! :D:p! Have a happy new year!

In the sub-category of most intense TV scenes of all time was watching Bosch Legacy season 2 episode 2 on FreeVee last night, in which a person is buried alive in a coffin and their struggles to get out are detailed in multiple scenes over the course of the episode. If you are claustrophobic it's a really really brutal to watch, and then to make things even more intense, a scorpion gets inside the coffin through a crack and begins to crawl over the victim, finally traversing the victim's chest and neck! This reminded me of the famous Tarantula scene in the James Bond film Dr. No with Sean Connery, arguably one of the most intense scenes in Bond film history.

Charlie89- That was an intense scene but I was surprised by your post because your Jack Nicholson image as your avatar actually comes from the Here's Johnny Scene in The Shining which is also an intense scene involving Nicholson:

The Godswoods
A scene from The Departed with Jack Nicholson and Leonardo DiCaprio...Leonardo's character is accused of being a snitch and the back and forth between his character and Jack Nicholson's is amazing!

Not a movie. But to me the scene in Yellowstone where Beth is attacked my masked gunmen beaten to a pulp and is about to be raped yet show no fear and taunts the assailant by commenting on his manhood was a very memorable le scene for me.

‘’Sixth Sense," starring Bruce Willis, had the most powerful effect on me, captivating me from start to finish with its unexpected scene that caught me off guard. Equally impactful was "Se7en," featuring Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt, leaving a lasting impression on me. I also recently saw "The Son" starring Hugh Jackman, and in my opinion, his outstanding performance deserved an Oscar for that movie. Despite his reputation for action roles like Wolverine, Jackman clearly demonstrates his exceptional acting skills. If he lands the perfect role, he could definitely secure an Oscar award without a doubt in the near future.

Obviously I can’t/don’t want to keep an avatar of the guy on a SW forum!

I changed for Charlie in Scent of a Woman.

And that is why I have a lot of respect for you.

The Pianist (2002)

A jude family is in a ghetto and they are observing nazis invading front neighbors apartment.
Shortly after breaking in, light opens up in the kitchen and we can see the frighten family sitting around kitchen table..
2 nazis pick the grandfather in a wheelchair and throw him down the window...

What happen next is just pure horror as they kill all family members on the street. When nazis are lefting, they run over bodies with truck.
Afterward, the family who observed the scene is in total shock...

I saw this movie at theater. In the end, I just stood up and applauded this masterpiece.
