Some interesting stuff here. Many interesting suggestions for future viewing.

Some additional questions occur to me, some of which are touched on in the foregoing posts: How true to reality are the depictions of sex work in movies/tv? Do they in any way perpetuate unfavourable stereotypes about the sex business? Do they help reinforce attitudes among the general public that allow politicians to get away with proposing irrational sex laws? Would be especially interested in hearing what the ladies think about this.

I am embarrassingly familiar with the milieu, or is it genre? Doesn't matter half of them are French!

The Babysitters http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0796302/ Done with a lot of restraint given the subject it could have been either exploitative or non-committal
Young & Beautiful http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2752200/ Very French
Sleeping Beauty http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1588398/ Very Australian?
Walk All Over Me http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0907680/ Very Canadian
Welcome to the Riley's http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1183923/ Very Good movie, recommend to me by a young woman I met through MERB!
Women in Trouble http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1247704/ Like all of his movies, just a neat, absurd, ensemble comedy.
Dangerous Beauty http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118892/ Renaissance Courtesan movie. Oliver Platt playing the boorish fop as usual.
House of Pleasures http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Tolerance Historical French
Student Services http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1570970/ I think a very realistic French film.
Elles http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1549589/?ref_=fn_al_tt_ Yet another French one Pretty good
Lilya 4-Ever http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0300140/ Friggin' Depressing movie
Princesas http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0434292/ Pretty good movie dealing with a lot of the personal and emotional toll. Spanish

Sylvia (1965)

I watched this movie when i was a young teenager. I believe i've only seen it once, but i absolutely loved it. It starred the beautiful Carrol Baker in the leading role. Here is the plot summary:

Sylvia West is a young poetess engaged to Frederic Summers, an eccentric millionaire. Summers, a man who always fears he is being loved for his money, decides to make a small check on his prospective bride. The results of this check completely shock him. Not one fact matches 'his' Sylvia. Intrigued and bewildered, Summers hires detective Alan Maklin and has him make a thorough investigation on 'Who Is Sylvia.'

"Taken" is perpetrating a myth.
On the other hand, most movies are based on stories that almost never happen or are very uncommon. That's the point of a fiction movie, and I would not really blame it unless it claims to be a doccumentary (I've never seen that particular movie, just the Family Guy spoof).

But it really doesn't make much sense to spend expensive drugs to get someone hooked so that they will go and earn money that you will mostly use to buy the drug she needs to keep going. Like using your car to try and produce gasoline. And rich people who can pay a lot of money don't want a crack whore, so the payoff of a drug addict must be pretty small.

So in my opinion, to the extent it exists, it's more of a scam to bolster the drug trade. Turning people into a prostitute is a byproduct of getting them addicted to an expensive drug and a way to make sure their drug clients always have a way of paying for their addiction.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Blue, with an excellent Julia Stiles as a single mother working a secret life as an escort to make ends meet. A wonderfully nuanced look at the pros and cons of escorting, and the emotional toll it takes. Will make you appreciate that girl that knocks on your door next time you book an escort.

It started as a web series (10 minute episodes) but has been gathered together into 45 min episodes - there are about 10 of them, and it's currently available to view for free on the CTV web site/app. Highly recommended.

Enjoy, boys.

Look behind you.
Has it ever happened? Probably not but OK, maybe 0.1% of the SPs got started that way and none in Montreal. For every girl that was "Taken" I'll bet you I can show you 100 girls that wanted a 1000$ Gucci purse but whose only skill was taking a half nude selfie. Not to say that all the girls are like this...many are professional business woman that do this on the side or just truely nice people that fell into this etc... However, Taken is a crock of shit! If you are a hobbyist and you were remotely entertained by this movie - or any of Liam Neesim's movies for that matter - than do yourself a favor and jump off a tall building. "Taken" is perpetrating a myth.

I do realize that the movie is highly embellished but you can not say this does not happen ( not the liam part but girls kidnapped and sold ). As for being entertained by these types of movies...yes, I just finished watching an old John Woo movie with English added in hokey but entertaining.
The movie has nothing to do with girls wanting to become prostitutes.

I forgot True Romance. That is one of my Top 10 favorite Movies and Christian Slaters best (I really liked Heathers too).

Yes, Christian (Clkarence Worley)ran off with Patricia Arquette who was an SP. Slater's boss paid her to meet him at the movies as a birthday present. Christian thought he had actually picker her up.
I loved that line when he took her home.

Clarence Worley: I can't tell you... that was one of the best times I ever had. It was. But, you know, I knew something must be rotten in Denmark. There was no way you could like me that much. Man, I can't tell you how relieved I was when you took off your dress, you... you didn't have a dick.

Not a movie but a British TV series, "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" based off a book of the same name.

Short-lived series, but soo good and very accurate about a certain aspect of escorting.

Yes Amber, that is a great series, my fave English actress, Billie Piper stars in it. Also another series that is great is called "La Prepago". the main lead is a hottie. THis series is available on Netflix

I've been trying to remember the name of that series! Thanks! Those kinky Brits...

Another TV series that's out now, a little more real life - 3AM, as I mentioned in the other thread.

Hot Girls Wanted

Shot in the 305. Nothing but class here...

Debuted at the Miami Film festival a few months back in March. Forgot about it. Showed again at Sundance just recently. Remembered.

I binge-watched all 4 seasons over the weekend and on my flights this week... So good, and funny. Billie Piper has such a large jaw... but somehow pulls off the part, and does it well. Oh Ben...

I only watched a few episodes when it debuted in 2007. But it's funny how a lot of those quips from that limited exposure have stayed with me. Like the 300 GBP per hour rate that was yet another strike against London's overall overpricing of everything! It's always been my default reaction to hobbying in London - overpriced for average looking SPs, and I've never bothered to even look when there. Also, for duos, "half the work, and even more pay!," exclaimed Belle. Lollll, my own selfishness to want an SP all to myself, and that quote and my inherent sense of bang-for-the-buck value have kept me from a threesome for all of my hobbying career.

Most of all, the greatest truths about SPs. It's all about the cash, baby. ;)

The Mayflower Madam
Saw it the other day. Early 80's TV movie with Candice Bergin as Sydney Biddle Barrows, based on the latter's book recounting her experience as the owner of a top NYC escort agency.
Sympathetic portrayal of Barrows, mostly believable. Her socially prominent family had seen better financial days and she wound up accepting a job answering the phone for a "Guido"-style escort agency owner. She leaves in disgust because he places great demands on the girls. Doesn't screen clients, sends the girls into potentially dangerous situations, doesn't always pay them....
She decides to start an agency that will be classier. More reasonable working conditions for the girls, high standards in her choice of girls and clientele. Among her challenges are attempts by other (male) agency owners to underhandedly sabotage her business and potential problems from law enforcement. She is ultimately the victim of her own too cavlier attitude with regard to the latter. She runs her agency out of a high end apartment bldg and attracts the attention of the neighbours with all the hot women coming and going.
As I said, mostly credible, but sugar coats things a bit where the girls are concerned. They are portrayed as a happy family that socialize together: shopping, picnics, etc. Nothing against SPs, I have found them to be friendly normal people in general, but no group of co-workers in any field like each other as much as the girls in this movie do. Otherwise it is a worthwhile film to watch

The crazy thing about Taxi Driver is that Jodie Foster was only 13 when she played an underage escort, and quite convincingly.

Another great one from the early 90's is Killing Zoe http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110265/

I don't think there were any escorts in Orgazmo, but it was a pretty hilarious spoof of the porn industry.

I remember as a young guy watching a movie i found in my parents bedroom called whore. It wasn't a porn movie, but more of a pg-13 erotic flick.
I still remember to this day that my very first erection was the scene where the main actress is sitting at a bar in a mini skirt and open toe high heels..and the camera pans from her knees down to the tip of her toes as she rocks her feet to the music. Thats probably why to this day i am a devoted leg man.
