Leafs looked great tonight rolling all over Ottawa in their season opener.

As expected John Tavares was introduced as the team captain during the player introductions. That was no big surprise. There was a rumour circulating earlier that Morgan Rielly may get the nod but the 'C' was rightly given to the veteran superstar Tavares who previously held the 'C' while starring for the Islanders. The alternate captains will be Auston Matthews, Morgan Rielly & Mitchell Marner. All well-deserved honors.

Auston Matthews had 2 goals, Tyson Barrie had 2 assists and newcomer Ilya Mikheyev has a goal and an assist.

Next game for the Leafs is Saturday night in Toronto against the habs. Prediction: Leafs win & it won't even be close.

The second goal by Mathews was impressive, very quick release and even before he received the pass he knew exactly where he was going to shoot that puck and angled himself accordingly.

18,588 fans watched as Vegas sent a strong message to San Jose that the Sharks are not going to be swimming freely to the Western Conference crown. Vegas is now 54-22-7 at T-Mobile regular season.

Good start for CAPS and OVI....big win over BLUES.....same for the OILERS with the winning one by McDAVID.

One of the best rivalry in the league....VEGAS--SHARKS.....easy win for the KNIGHTS........strange....KARLSSON was scratched---personal matter---and team does not know when he may b back and don't have an update...yep strange....SHARKS need him asap,,,,and need a goaly....

Gaby,

You probably missed it but there is an ongoing legal drama going on with Karlsson’s wife who was “cyberbullied” by the fiancée of Mike Hoffman. I always thought there was more to this story than meets the eye, and this continues to be the case. Of course the Sharks will not comment, they would be a fish out of water commenting on such matters. All of this started with wife of Karlsson giving birth to stillborn child and claiming Hoffman fiancée had wished the child be born dead, and it sort of deteriorated from there. This was one reason why the Senators moved Karlsson. Hoffman was traded too.

Gaby- my advice is stick to the hockey and don’t worry about these off ice dramas. Sharks will never ever comment on this kind of stuff and if you are waiting for them to comment you will wait a very long time- longer than the characters in Beckett’s “Waiting for Godot”......

.could b another personal matter...

Teams have to be very careful in what they say or information they release on players especially when they don’t have complete information on a personal absence. Karlsson plays in the USA and as such the Sharks are subject to HIPAA privacy laws and other federal laws. Perhaps the reasons will come out in the media at some point, but if so it will likely be leaked by anonymous sources.

Yes, you can ask the questions but you may have to wait a while to get the answers.....

Was kidding with Galchy.....RANGERS ---am not a fan---BUT as already said with PANARIN--KAKKO--TROUBA they should b competitive...fans have been comprehensive and patient.... now.they deserve their team to b in.....yep the battle for playoffs will b fun.

Don't get me wrong, i'd like to see the Rags make the playoffs this season - but i don't see it yet. Both Andersson and Kravtsov got sent down today, they still need more development. Kakko might be the closest NHL ready rookie since Matthews - but he still needs more time to adjust. His preseason wasn't anything to brag about either. I'm also not convinced Hank will come close to playing 60 games this season. As a fan, I wouldn't say we've been "patient" the Rags have deployed a somewhat competitive playoff team for the past decade, minus the last two seasons - we needed a fresh start, and there's no better way than to start with Kakko and the Breadman.

Kakko is going to be NHL Rookie of the Year/Calder Trophy winner. Finnish version of Matthews. 18 years old but he is ready to play!

As far as Lundqvist, an older goalie does not need to play more than 60 games anyway. The King is not yet ready to abdicate his throne!

Major League Baseball has a paternity leave list. When a player leaves his team because wife is giving birth he is put on a paternity leave list and must miss one game but no more than 3 and the team may add another player to the 40 man roster.

I do not understand why NHL doesn’t have a paternity leave list and why it’s not public information that a player is taking such leave. It’s not a secret for baseball players so why is it secret for hockey players? More importantly the Sharks, already without the suspended Kane, were double shorthanded - apparently for lack of such a rule.

Fleury certainly seems to be aging well......... saving .965% against Sharks in 2 games. Let's face it, Vegas is the team to beat in the west, and they join Tampa Bay and Toronto as the top 3 Stanley Cup contenders at this time.

The Sharks are good, they just aren't good enough. And that is OK. Only 1 team can win the Stanley Cup, it's just not going to be them. They will make the playoffs and lose a 7 game series at some point. It's not a terrible result- just the usual result.

Hat trick by Mike Hoffman tonight as the Panthers win the battle of Florida 4-3 over the Lightning. Hoffman’s getting traded after his fiancée cyber bullied Karlsson’s wife (allegedly) was the best thing that ever happened to Hoffman. He has flourished as a Panther. Had his best season last year and is off to another great start.

Hoffman's wife always denied cyberbullying Karlsson's wife. If i remember correctly she claimed her account had either been hacked or someone was impersonating her on social media with a fake account. I remember one text message/email to a pregnant Melinda Karlsson stating something like "i hope your baby dies" was kind of nuts so who knows. Melinda Karlsson ended up losing the 'baby' since it was stillborn.

By the way Mike Hoffman's most productive season was with the San Jose Sharks. ;)
