The Huffington Post predictably has coverage on `The Outrage`.
The editor of The New Yorker is interviewed and says "the cover (is) "satire" targeting not Obama, but the "absurdity" of the rumors flying about him."

The
earnestness, dear Korbel is that of those that don`t get (or appreciate) the joke. let`s put it this way, were McCain cast in a similarly unflattering but satirical light, perhaps in a wheelchair, and an IV stuck in his arm, it would bring a smirk to a lot of those faces who are outraged at the moment.
Not to say I don`t understand why the outrage is there. Obama personifies a shift away from the horribly wrong politics of Bush-McCain, and Obama supporters are terrified that this cover will sway undecideds to vote for his opponent. I think they have to have a little more faith in Obama. `Hope`, as it were.
The cover satirizes all the bullshit Fox News put forth about Obama. No thinking person believes any of it. I guess the way to win an election is to convince all the non-thinkers, and there`s where the outrage lies. The non-thinkers might believe it.
Give `em a little more credit than that, I say. It is their children whose dead and shredded bodies are being shipped home from Iraq. They have a bone to pick with those idiots who think it would be good to `stay the course` or worse, go up against Iran.
