That was a tough loss but the atmosphere in the place was insane!! Oh well, it was a nice run and at least they didn't get swept in the first round.

I have a Hockey Hang OVER......

I was there at the GARH-DEN with chants of "WE WANT IT, WE WANT IT.....

I guess THEY wanted IT more....

I stood (@ 11:23 p.m.) and clapped for a Season well done!

Hey SK,

I didn't see most of the game except for the overtime. It looked pretty intense with both teams playing a very hard and good game. But I have not been much of a hockey fan for years, and lost touch with some of the rules. I heard today that when anyone gets into a fight or throws a punch in the last five minutes of any game they are automatically suspended for the next game. If so, what happened with Walker? Why didn't the commissioner follow through on the rules? Does anyone have a sincere and genuine answer about why Walker got away with it?

It was a great season with good expectations that might have gone much further. Well, at least I won my bet...easily...against that "Golfing by April" team known as the Canadiens. But I am still waiting for an honorable payoff of the bet.

Hmmm,

Merlot...I don't understand why Walker's suspensions was reneged, it is what it is and there's nothing we can do about it now although I would've like to see Lucic knock some sense into his punk ass before the series ended but the opportunity just wasnt' there.

Hello SK,

Glad to hear you had such a good time. Just looking for an understanding of this rules breach after I heard about this rule today; the Canes won and that's that. Looking back at how the Bruins beat everyone during the season I think even a lapsed hockey fan like me had higher hopes. But they did great no matter what. Congrats to the Bs on a terrific season.

Many cheers, :D

Walker's wife was just diagnosed with cancer:

The Carolina Hurricanes announced on Saturday that forward Scott Walker's wife Julie has been diagnosed with cervical cancer. The team said her illness is considered treatable, and she is expected to make a full recovery.

"My wife is an amazing person and we are looking forward to a positive outcome from this challenge," Walker said in a press release.

Walker will address the media after the team practices today in Raleigh. It is unknown if he will miss any games in the Eastern Conference Final, which begins on Monday in Pittsburgh.

While it's normally a pleasure to see the Bruins lose it was less so this year because they have a fine coach and a pretty good team. The problem is actually the fans, who are just as annoying as the ones in Toronto and Montreal but who know much less about the sport. Also the Bruins have traditionally had the worst broadcasters of the Original Six - a braying, biased bunch of homers and whiners. Derek Sanderson was probably the worst broadcaster in the history of the NHL.

Give the Beantowners some credit though: at least their recent record of futility isn't as bad as Toronto's. While the Leafs last won the Cup in 67, the Bruins won it as "recently" (ha ha) as 72. That said, if they ever do win a Cup again it'll probably be long before the Leafs or Habs.

It would be nice to see Claude Julien win a Cup - maybe he'll end up coaching Detroit one day. He deserves it after being treated unfairly in Montreal and Jersey and then being sentenced to Boston. Hey, even Ray Bourque had to LEAVE Beantown to win his Cup!

I totally agree. I liked their coach & the whole team in general. They actually were my 2nd favorite team this season. Part of me was pulling for the Canes in their series against the Bruins, another part of me was pulling for the Bruins. I was happy for Paul Maurice, who came from seemingly nowhere to coach the Canes a few months into the season, to lead them possibly to a Stanley Cup final. I've also said for the past month that it's my impression that the Canes are a team of Destiny. Who ever thought any team could come back against Martin Brodeur & the favored Devils by scoring two quick goals in the final couple of minutes & beat them 2-1? It was pure magic!

I agree with your assessment of Bruins fans in general. I'd also add that i wonder how they can call themselves true Bruins fans when the only time they show up at the games or start raving about their team is when the team has one of the best records in hockey & contending for the Cup. Until the midway point of this season, their arena was constantly half-empty & rarely would you hear anything out of the Boston-area fans. At least the Habs & Leafs fans fill up their respective arenas at every game & don't hide their heads in the sand year after year. I also agree in regards to your comments about the Boston commentators....but that's been the case since the days of Bobby Orr & Gerry Cheevers. Nothing's changed in that aspect.

Patrick Roy next coach of the Avalanche?

Roy offered Avs' coaching job

The Colorado Avalanche have offered Hall of Fame goaltender Patrick Roy their head coaching job, The Denver Post reported Monday.

Roy, who retired with the Avs in 2003 and was inducted into the Hall in 2006, would take over for Tony Granato, who has two years remaining on his contract and hadn't been told he was fired, according to the newspaper.

Roy, the co-owner, general manager and coach of major-junior hockey's Quebec Remparts, was considering the offer from the Avs, the report said, citing multiple NHL sources who are close to Roy.

"Patrick is a very deliberate guy who analyzes everything," Jacques Demers, who coached Roy's Montreal Canadiens to the 1993 Stanley Cup, told The Denver Post. "He's not necessarily going to take the first job that might come along. He's going to want to go into a situation he thinks is on the right track and that he's going to feel comfortable with."

Roy confirmed Saturday to ESPN.com that he met with Avs president Pierre Lacroix last week in the wake of Francois Giguere's firing as GM last month.

"I went out there to visit him," Roy said. "He had his surgery about 10 days ago. I also had friends in town that I wanted to go and see.

"But we did talk a bit about my future," Roy added. "He wanted to know what was my future, but that's about it for now."

Roy helped lead the Avalanche to two Stanley Cup championships, in 1996 and 2001. The Avs finished this season last in the West with the fewest goals in the NHL at 199.

Roy denies he was offered Avalanche head coach job

DENVER – Hall of Fame goaltender Patrick Roy has denied being offered the Colorado Avalanche's coaching job, a position currently held by Tony Granato.

The Denver Post reported Monday that Roy had received an offer and was mulling it over. The Avalanche declined to comment on the report, which cited anonymous league sources.

Later Monday, a spokeswoman for the junior league club Roy co-owns and coaches told The Associated Press that Roy had not received an offer from his old NHL team.

"I talked to him this morning and he said all those reports are speculation, he never received a formal offer," said Nicole Bouchard, director of media relations for the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Roy is also general manager of the Remparts.

Bouchard said Roy wasn't available for interviews. Earlier, he told French-language network Radio Canada: "I never received an offer ... but anyway, I'm not commenting."

Roy met with Avs president Pierre Lacroix in Denver on May 7, about three weeks after general manager François Giguere was fired following Colorado's last-place finish in the West. Colorado's 32-45-5 mark was the franchise's worst since moving from Quebec to Denver in 1995.

Although the team wouldn't say what the meeting was about, it was the first indication that Granato's job might be in danger. The team hasn't commented on Granato's status since then.

Granato has two years left on his contract.

Roy won Stanley Cup titles in Colorado in 1996 and 2001 after a standout career with the Montreal Canadiens. He retired in 2003 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2006.

He coached his two sons with the Remparts last season, when all three drew suspensions for ugly incidents. Frederick Roy got 15 games for high-sticking eight months after his brother, Jonathan, received a seven-game penalty for participating in an on-ice fight. That fight also resulted in a five-game suspension for Patrick Roy for encouraging his son during the fisticuffs.

The incident prompted Quebec's sports minister to create a committee to address the issue of gratuitous violence in hockey.

Former Colorado coach Joel Quenneville, in Detroit for the Chicago Blackhawks' Game 2 of the Western Conference final against the Red Wings, said Roy has a great hockey IQ.

"Patrick, you know, he's one of those players that was pretty amazing the time I was around him," Quenneville said. "Not too many guys have that level of thinking as players. It's almost an elite level of the knowledge of the game, the technical part of it. He's done very well for himself with his organization in Quebec. I know how competitive it is.

"You know, I haven't been really around him as a coach. You got to give him some kudos for the job he's done there."

The Avalanche, whose 199 goals were the fewest in the NHL last season, have salary cap issues facing their next general manager and whoever coaches them next year.

The team has only about US$10 million to $12 million in which to fill out the roster because 14 players have contracts that account for nearly $44 million next year. That doesn't include captain Joe Sakic, who spent most of the year on the injured list, and either goaltender, Peter Budaj and Andrew Raycroft, who are unsigned for next season.

it would be ironic to see pens vs wings again this yr with pens winning this time as hossa left pitts to take less money with det thinking that wings would win it all again lol

chi vs pitts would actually better for the league...young guns vs young guns!

This is how good the Wings are: They played today missing 2 of the 5 best players in the world (Datsyuk and Lidstrom) as well as the solid and dependable Kris Draper...and they still won 6 to 1!
