It exposes the overly praised Bob Gainey, who has been a major architect of this team's failures.
It showcased a classy performance by Timmy Thomas.
It brings delusional habs fans back down to the real world. The habs may not have as shitty a record as the despised Leafs have had for the last 42 years, but they haven't exactly set the league afire either: 2 Cups in 30 years, the last one 16 years ago, and both really nothing but Patrick Roy miracles (with a little help from Marty McSorley's stick).

You forgot to mention Michael Ryder's performance in the playoffs. He was left out of the lineup last year throughout the playoffs. This season, Claude Julien turned him into a leader & he regained his scoring touch. Incredible!

I didn't forget - I just didn't mention it because I'm no big Ryder fan. But there's no doubt he turned it around this year and I think you're right that Claude deserves a lot of the credit. Heck maybe if Bob traded Price to the Bruins Claude could even salvage Carey's career. (For one thing, the bars don't stay open as late in Boston!)

One thing, though. Yes, the Leafs did not have a very good team the past couple of seasons. However, they only missed the playoffs by a single point last season (and the year before, i think). Okay, still not high-calibre hockey, but pretty much at the same point that the Habs were this season. Yes, the Habs have now sunk to Toronto Maple Laughs level!!
As for this season, it was a rebuilding year & everyone who knows anything about hockey knew this. But rebuild they did! The arrival of Brian Burke has upped the pace of the rebuilding & he's already began to put his mark on the hockey team. Give them another 2-3 years and the results will be a sight to the behold. In 5 years, they might even be contending for the Cup. Take the Anaheim Mighty Ducks...they are surprising everybody in the playoffs & just might eliminate the San Jose Sharks. That was one of my predictions if you look back, by the way. The Ducks, whom a lot of people were certain wouldn't even make the playoffs. Contending for the Cup again? Yep, those same Ducks.....Brian Burke's team. He built them.
As for the Habs, they've become the Mickey Mouse organization of the entire NHL outside the NY Islanders. Heck, maybe even worse than the Islanders!! If you're a free agent, would you really want to go and play for the Habs knowing about all the turmoil that's surrounded the team all season long? If you're an american hockey player, would you want to move your family to a team whose fans boo the US national anthem? Do you want to move to a team where you don't even know who'll be its owner next season? Who will be the GM? Who will be the coach? Do you want to move to a team with 11 potential free agents? That's almost half the current roster gone!!! Well, do you?? Of course you don't. You prefer joining a first-class organization like the Toronto Maple Leafs, with a great tradition & one of the most stable & wealthy organizations in the entire NHL with one of its largest fan base. A team run by a hockey architect who's been dubbed a genius by many & who will one day take the team to the promise land. Yes indeed, the contrast between the two organizations is a huge one. I'm glad i'm on the right side. Very.

So you are using the injury excuse this year? You hammered me when I brought up the Flyers losing Timonen and Coburn last year against the PENS. Unfortunately, what was missing from the HABS this season, was heart.

Well I went 3 for 4 in the preds I made, winners...not how many games, and here's my picks for the next round:
Boston over the Canes (in 5) Bruins are just too strong for the Canes
Caps over the Pens (in 6) Ovetchkin has something to prove
Detroit over the Ducks (in 5) It's Detroit, 'nuf said. And the Ducks are tired
Chicago over Vancouver (in 7) Only one I'm worried about. If the Hawks goaltending burns out Vancouver can take the series.

Carolina over Boston: Playoff experience goes to the Canes. Same thing for coaching. The Bruins haven't played in a while, thanks to their destruction of the Habs in 4 games, and it'll show in the first game. I have more confidence in Carolina's goaltending & the team now feels that they're on a destiny to win the Cup after last night's magical elimination of the Devils. They'll be drowning in confidence.

2) Pittsburgh in 6 over Washington - Should be a great series but of all the teams I've seen in the playoffs this year, the Pens are the ones who've surprised and impressed me the most.
3) Detroit in 5 over Anaheim - These guys will steamroller over everyone in the west. BTW keep your eyes on Duck's goalie Jonas Hiller during the anthem. He looks like a guy who smoked a huge doobie and is watching Spongebob Squarepants.
