It was the first time the Penguins put up 11 goals in 30 years, since Mario Lemieux was on the team. Of note is that Malkin had a hat trick and he and Crosby combined for 6 points. The Penguins have a very healthy offensive attack when those two are healthy.

Tragic, sad and unexpected news...EUGENE MELNYK----OTTAWA SENS, OWNER---- dies at 62......ne faisait pas l'unanimité BUT we must salute his determination to keep the team in OTTAWA...not an easy decision dans un marché pas évident...

So what's next ???...Will Anna and Olivia take over???....not sure.....will they sell???.......if so strong strong possibilities the team will move.....none will b that patient EUGENE was.....so moving to QUÉBEC???.....just dreaming ;) ...new owners would look for a better

investment.

The Rangers and Shesterkin have beaten the Penguins 3-2 and have moved past the Penguins in the standings:
Although Pittsburgh had 11 goals in its last game, that was not happening against Igor, even in Pittsburgh. Chris Kreider had his 45th goal tonight and seems headed for 50

It's the best the Rangers have played since the halcyon days of Mark Messier, Adam Graves, Brian Leetch, Mike Richter and Sergei Zubov. There were 5 Hall of Famers on the Rangers 1994 Stanley Cup Champs:

Messier
Zubov
Leetch
Glenn Anderson
Kevin Lowe

With Igor Shesterkin in nets, the sky is the limit for the current Rangers. Shesterkin has continued the wonderful Rangers Goalie Tradition of Richter and Lundqvist and may actually prove to be better than all other Ranger goalies.

How far they go in the playoffs depends on how well their 3rd and 4th lines perform. Would also be nice if they get something out of Kaapo Kakko when he comes back.

MATTHEWS scores 50th goal of season....great...première fois dans sa carrière.
43 goals in his past 45 games. Astonishing feat! The Leafs proved that they tanked on purpose at exactly the right time. They picked the year where a generational player would be in the draft. And they ended up with the lottery pick, which is not as much a guarantee today as it was back then. Hard to believe that people just a couple of years ago still wonder if the Leafs shouldn’t have picked the enigmatic Patrick Laine instead. Patrick who?

43 goals in 45 games is amazing, and the Leafs strategic tank did work. I would still give the Hart Trophy to Shesterkin, although this debate is kind of like, should a pitcher win the MVP award in baseball when he has a Cy Young award to honor his accomplishments? Some people would say give Shesterkin the Vezina and give Matthews the Hart. I would say give Shesterkin both. Goalies should not be punished if they are the most valuable player by being limited to the award for goalies. Let him get the MVP and sweep the awards.

Flyers, Yeo Bench Yandle, End Streak:
This is very different than how Lou Gehrig's streak. Gehrig's streak ended when he benched himself. The manager has too much respect for what he meant to his teammates, organization and city, but Gehrig decided his sucking (due to his as yet undiagnosed ALS) was hurting the team and told the manager to remove him. Yandle had to be removed by management deciding his sucking was hurting the team.

Matthews scored his league-leading 51st goal tonight in Philly. This was his 44th goal in his last 46 games! Unreal numbers! He’s currently on pace to score 63 goals this season!

Shesterkin's chances for the Hart trophy as league MVP appear to be slipping fast. He hasn't had a good month of March. He's struggled lately. Other than Auston Matthews now Roman Josi's name has popped up among the favorites. He's had an absolutely fantastic month of March. Leon Draisaitl & Connor McDavid's names are also on the list but they literally cancel each other's vote since not only do they play on the same team but on the same line. My pick: Auston Matthews.

NHL.com did a Hart Trophy straw poll of its writers last week and the voting came out like this:

1. Huberdeau
2. Shesterkin
3. Matthews

Despite a couple of lackluster efforts in recent weeks, I look for Igor to make a strong finish and win the award, as he still holds a commanding lead in save % and is second in GAA. But if he doesn't win the Hart, he has sewn up the Vezina.

Hat-trick by the phenomenal Auston Matthews tonight against Tampa. In Tampa! He now leads the league with 54 goals & also tied the Leafs franchise record which is held by Rick Vaive.

Matthews now has 47 goals in his last 47 games. Historic goal scoring at its best!

The Leafs destroyed the Lightning 6-2!
