That Florida road trip is a brutal back to back for most teams. If the Leafs can sweep it will really be a great credit to them.

By the way in case you guys haven't done that Tampa/Miami road trip, I have. Years of going to spring training to see the Yankees and then travel to South Beach. Or vice Versa. It's a little over 5 hours drive from Tampa to South Beach. Almost all of the trip is I-75 including the legendary "Alligator Alley" through the Everglades area in which there are fences on both sides of the interstate about 30 feet from the highway to keep the alligators from crossing the highway. Because you don't want to hit an Alligator at 75 mph on I-75. However that ride is flat and straight and mostly boring. There are only a few highway stops and they are only on one side of the highway, not both, so you have long access ramps from each side of the highway that go over the highway to get there. Fort Lauderdale is the best place to stay as you approach the home of the Panthers. I have stayed on the beach there previously and liked it. Hotels in South Beach are pretty expensive, but the ones on the water are all pretty nice.

I am curious as to where the Leafs Hotel their players in Miami. I would keep them out of South Beach. North Miami would probably be better. Or downtown. There are some distractions there but not as many.

I was told most of the NHL teams playing in Sunrise (home of the Florida Panthers) stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton Sunrise-Sawgrass Mills, which is across the street from a major shopping mall & near the hockey arena where the Panthers play their games. A buddy of mine who spends his winters in Fort Lauderdale occassionally attends Panthers games & tells me he's about a 20 minute drive from the arena and says if he'd live in Miami he'd be about an hour away. He says the logistics are the main reason why they've had trouble attracting fans. He compares it to attending a game in Ottawa, where the team's arena is located about 20 minutes away (when there's no traffic) from downtown Ottawa in Kanata. I've been to that arena once & it's not exactly the best location to go watch a hockey game.

A Florida hockey road trip is something i've been considering for years. I've also been considering going for a hockey game in Nashville, which looks like a great place to catch a hockey game.

Tonight Auston Matthews will be going for the new franchise record which would be 55 goals in a season. One player that hasn't been talked about much is his linemate Mitch Marner. Marner is also having a fantastic year & has 63 points in his last 34 games. Those are amazing statistics! The Matthews/Marner combo is one of the best 1-2 punches in the NHL.

I don't expect the Leafs to win tonight considering they played a very tough game last night in Tampa & Florida had the night off. The Leafs will also go with their backup goaltender, who happens to be #4 in the organization's depth chart behind Campbell, Mrazek & Woll.

Two goals for the great Auston Matthews tonight in a 4-3 Leafs victory over Dallas! That’s now 49 goals in his last 49 games! On top of that with his 55 & 56 goals he now owns the franchise record for the most goals in a season! Incredible player!

The Rangers have tied Carolina for 1st place in the Metropolitan with 100 points, and are one of 3 teams, Toronto being that other, that are tied for 100 points in the Eastern Conference, behind Florida with 108:
The Hurricane and Maple Leafs each have a game in hand, and this race for 2nd place in the Eastern Conference will be important, if not crucial. You do not want to play Florida until the EC finals, if necessary.

Meanwhile, the only Western Conference team that has 100 points is Colorado, with a President's Trophy Leading 110. Many people like the Avs to win it all, but I question their goaltending integrity.

Chris Kreider chasing NY Rangers history: He is the 4th Ranger to score 50 in a season, and is within striking distance of the club record. These are the 2 guys in front of him:

54 Jaromir Jagr (2005-06)
52 Adam Graves (1993-94)

Will he make history?

Sad news this morning....MIKE BOSSY dies at only 65....a LEGEND... 10 years with the ISLANDERS et 9 saisons de 50 goals.....will never b forgetten....RIP.
RIP Mike!
We'll miss him. He was not just a legend on the ice but also in front the camera!
TVA sports lost their best commentator.
Really appreciated him last year in the playoff.

And what are the chance he died the same day Habs play against his team at Bell Center with Price back?

Bossy was the most dangerous sniper I ever saw play. No other player had a quicker shot release than Bossy. He played his junior hockey for the Laval Titans where he set a ton of scoring records that may never be broken. The line of Trottier/ Bossy/ Gillies was the most dangerous scoring line in the NHL and set the stage for the Islanders dynasty of 4 consecutive Stanley Cups.

When the NHL draft came Bossy was still available for the Habs to pick. I still curse the Habs organization (Bowman and Ruel at the time) for drafting Mike Napier instead of Bossy...it was the biggest mistake the Habs ever did!...

And a couple of years later the Habs made their second biggest mistake as an organization when they drafted Doug Wickenheiser with the first overall pick instead of Denis Savard!!!

RIP Mike Bossy!
