Centaurus, your statement is full of ignorance, you should've made a quick research on google to find out how off the track you are.
I am NOT a fan of the constitutionnal monarchy system, would like to see it abolished, but I still have to explain to you the role of the governor general.

The governor general IS the Head of State and the prime minister is the head of government. Every law passed by the government has to be approved by the GG, even the prime minister is sworn in by her.

I'm a huge Obama fan... but I do wish the Americans would drop the line "only in America" in referring to him becoming President... (I appreciate the differences in office) but Canada ain't doing too badly in the same department by having the Governor General we do.

Counter point:

Every US president since Reagan visited Canada on a official trip, some more than once while in office . That includes: Bush 41, Clinton, and Bush 43. Thats' almost 21 years of State visits.

During each of these visits, the Canadian PM went to the airport and greeted it them personally. Why is it any different with Obama ???? Why are we changing a 21 years old protocol.? The question that you should ask is why didn't she greets Bush 43 when he came to Canada? In 4 or 8 years, if there is a Republican president , would she take her big fat haitian ass to the airport and greets the US President, whomever he is. ?

Also, don't mix the Pope in it. It is by Vatican protocol-that the head of the state greets the Pope personally when he travels abroad. That includes the US.

As other have stated, while mostly a figuread, the Governor General IS Canada's head of state and outranks the PM. And her duties are mostly non-political and ceremonial. That someone would have an issue with this is not only silly, it's absurd.
