Hello all,
According to news sources, bin Laden is confirmed dead and his body is in US hands. More news to follow...
Obama has just guaranteed his re-election.
Yesterday people were joking that now that Obama has released his birth certificate, next he'll get bin Laden. Well guess what...he did!
The final reckoning of the U.S. account against Osama Bin laden with his execution, and disposal of him, is a momentous moment of justice for all the innocent blood that Al Qaeda has spilled throughout the world, including Muslims as well as Americans or anyone else. We here in the U.S. are generally reacting with joy and pride. We feel avenged at last. But after the euphoria subsides what are the results?
For President Obama there is the great prestige of having killed the monster after 8 years of failure by G.W. Bush, and the U.S. has the pride of having fulfilled it's sacred pledge of 911. In American politics Bin Laden's elimination by the Obama administration largely removes a key playing card of the opposition of Republicans and hate-filled Tea Partiers in their attempt to mark the President as a failure against terrorism and the malicious libel of Obama as a Muslim sympathizer. It endows President Obama as a true and faithful "AMERICAN" equal to any other American...giving Trump and like detractors the veneer of thoughtless irrational haters, jesters attempting to throw trash at a President who will be seen by most as a REAL AMERICAN HERO now. But despite the glory, little will change.
However, with all of this coming 18 months before the next election Americans will have plenty of time to realize the death of Bin Laden does not provide more food on the table, alleviate personal bills and long term debts, create more good jobs, lower the costs of necessities, rebuild deteriorating local and national infrastructures, eliminate the tremendous burden of entitlements, or balance the national budget. As Bill Clinton said: "it's the economy stupid", a theory abundantly proven with his election victory in 1992 about 18 months after one of the swiftest and most dominating large scale military successes in world history led by then President G. H. Bush in 1991, with all the prestige and re-invigoration of pride and honor that episode endowed on him. The death of Bin laden will be an enormous prestige card for President Obama, but it solves no practical day to day problems Americans will continue to struggle with just as before, and this situation will be the core of the 2012 campaigns. As in Bush's case, nothing practical has changed.
In the Muslim world the decline of Al Qaeda and emphasis on real practical concerns of living conditions was already well in progress because of the pressing needs. Governments have been falling by public acclamation because of their social and economic failures. The death of Bin Laden changes nothing in the real lives of Muslims. But for the devoted Islamic militant extremists Bin Laden dies in the most honorable way possible as a martyr fighting their monsters. Among those Muslims who devote their lives to the militant brand of Jihad Bin Laden will be revered as one who fulfilled the ideal, and those who live off hatred of the West and the U.S. in particular will have a prefect model in the life and end of Bin Laden. They can only be inspired and enraged, though without the financial resources Bin Laden provided.
The place was literally within a couple of miles from a golf course.
IMO the Pakistanis have some serious explaining to do.
More enlightening, this was a million dollar compound obviously designed purposely with a lot of forethought to hide Bin Laden in a well populated and settled area only a fairly short distance from...a
Pakistani "military compound." U.S. intelligence has been observing the Bin Laden compound for about a year, and it's pretty certain the U.S. is already well aware of very probable contact between Bin Laden and Pakistani officials, which if so is being kept secret because of the importance of that country and it's government to the state of the battle against Al Qaeda and terrorism. Complications indeed.
Incredible,
Merlot
PS
For the end of Bin Laden, Republican John Boehner just gave thanks and credit to the military, the intelligence community, President Obama.......................and G.W. (failure) Bush - can you believe it????
