Fine. The target of the US's first involvement in Afghanistan was to facilitate the fall of the Soviet Union. That succeeded. However, the US did misread the goals of the Afghan rebels who were Taliban. Their goal was to get rid of all outside influences, whether it was the Soviets or the US.

But the US did not start this movement. Iran was already in Revolution in the late 70s. Brezinski was under Carter, not Reagan. Reagan did continue the support of the Afghan freedom fighters. Wahhabi Islam started in the 18th Century. It is the foundation for what is happening in the Middle East.

The politic of USA in the middle east is an great example of Hypocrisy! the same Talibans with their same activity terrorist, why they became the freedom fighters group to terrorist group ? when they fighted for USA interest, they are freedom fighters, when they fighted against USA interest, they will become the terrorist. Now CIA is financing and distributing the bombs to differences freedom fighters groups in Iran and in Lybia to destabilizing these countries gourvernment who do not accepting be USA puppet.

Wow, JH, you use so many words to say so little that makes sense.

I have one question. Are you Professor Irwin Corey?

You don't have to admit it. I don't want you to out yourself, but I am just guessing. I am guessing when I read your posts, also.

From the Washington Post:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/post/john-mccain-to-bush-apologists-stop-lying-about-bin-laden-and-torture/2011/03/03/AF10AnzG_blog.html

“The trail to bin Laden did not begin with a disclosure from Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who was waterboarded 183 times. We did not first learn from Khalid Sheikh Mohammed the real name of bin Laden’s courier, or his alias, Abu Ahmed al-Kuwaiti — the man who ultimately enabled us to find bin Laden. The first mention of the name Abu Ahmed al-Kuwaiti, as well as a description of him as an important member of Al-Qaeda, came from a detainee held in another country. The United States did not conduct this detainee’s interrogation, nor did we render him to that country for the purpose of interrogation. We did not learn Abu Ahmed’s real name or alias as a result of waterboarding or any ‘enhanced interrogation technique’ used on a detainee in U.S. custody. None of the three detainees who were waterboarded provided Abu Ahmed’s real name, his whereabouts, or an accurate description of his role in Al-Qaeda.

“In fact, not only did the use of ‘enhanced interrogation techniques’ on Khalid Sheikh Mohammed not provide us with key leads on bin Laden’s courier, Abu Ahmed; it actually produced false and misleading information. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed specifically told his interrogators that Abu Ahmed had moved to Peshawar, got married, and ceased his role as an Al-Qaeda facilitator — which was not true, as we now know. All we learned about Abu Ahmed al-Kuwaiti through the use of waterboarding and other ‘enhanced interrogation techniques’ against Khalid Sheik Mohammed was the confirmation of the already known fact that the courier existed and used an alias.

Hello Chercher,

Much of this was already admitted by the former Secretary of Defense under Bush named Donald Rumsfeld who unfortunately decided not to be as specific as this because he wants the waterboarding option left open. Political ideologues and parties in general do not let the truth get in the way when it clashes with their political doctrines and philosophies, and especially when it does not serve their purpose. The goal of G. W. Bush to invade Iraq and get rid of Saddam is another classic example of using only the information or public perceptions that serve their purpose.

You can bet that the games that have been played to manipulate the facts in the effectiveness of waterboarding to get Bin Laden will not end no matter how irrefutable the facts might ever be. There is always a way to spin, or those who refuse to believe the facts...and political expediency to serve a purpose is an ever-continuing virus that has a life of it's own.

Speaking of that which has a life of its own, I give you the Doomsday Seekers. After 4800 years of thousands of absolutely firm doomsday predictions and just as many failures, we are still here talking about them, making this stuff the longest enduring GAG on human kind. I'd find it 100% hilarious if it wasn't so damaging to some peoples lives.

I don't know if people like 10-4 Roger believe in this stuff or just love the gag, but they sure have no compassion or care for the damage it does to many people who sometimes alter their lives and end up impoverishing themselves or doing other grave damage to their lives because of this SHIT! One middle-aged adult person I know in a position of responsibility at work absolutely thought the May 21st doomsday prediction would happen and was near to a blind panic over it. Thanks for being part of a never-ending source of fear and damage...Roger.

Targeting Bin Laden.

Hello all,

I just saw a very illuminating documentary called Targeting Bin Laden on the History Channel. When Bin laden was shot last spring Democrats, Republicans, and partisans rushed to take credit for the success in finally hunting down Bin Laden. The documentary points out that no one really knew if Bin Laden or some other ranking Al Qaeda leader was at the infamous compound in Afghanistan or not. Some of the best intelligence analysts thought the chances were 30% some 80-90%. President Obama simply chose to take the risk.

It's just how a lot of historical decisions work.

The Day We Got Bin Laden

http://www.thedailybeast.com/newswe...-takes-viewers-inside-the-situation-room.html

Barack Obama: Some of our intelligence officers thought that it was only a 40 or 30 percent chance that bin Laden was in the compound. Others thought that it was as high as 80 or 90 percent. At the conclusion of a fairly lengthy discussion where everybody gave their assessments, I said, “This is basically 50–50-.” It was circumstantial—we couldn’t know for certain.

At the end of that meeting, which was fairly tense, I told folks I would sleep on it. And I would give an order in the morning.

Ben Rhodes, deputy national-security adviser for strategic operations
: We were all waiting with bated breath to get the final decision back from him.

John Brennan, assistant to the president for counter-terrorism and homeland security:
The stakes were just too damn high.

Thomas Donilon, national-security adviser: He gathered us in a semicircle around him. And he said, “I’ve thought about the options. I’ve considered the decision and it’s a go.”

Obama:
Even though I thought it was only 50–50 that bin Laden was there, I thought it was worth us taking a shot.

continued...

Cheers,
