Hi all.

Travelling to Montreal in a bit more than a month. Do I need cash, or will credit cards work with escorts and massage parlors?

If I need cash, will US$ work, or do the girls expect C$?

I agree, I always use the one on Peel. Great rates there. As of today the US Dollar is getting $1.30 Canadian.

Oh believe me, they will take U.S. currency when the rate is favorable enough. I can still see in my memory's sight one high end escort from the old Frenchkiss Society applauding like a very excited little girl when I said I only had U.S. dollars at the moment. I had warned that might happen and she was extremely happy about it. It sure wasn't the only time either, and I didn't compensate the amount of U.S. dollars downward to match the exchange rate for Canadian dollars or leave out a tip.

However, do get Canadian money. It simplifies everything. I find the exchange on Peel next to the corner of Ste Catherine one of the more consistently better exchanges for rates (higher) and transaction charges (small).

The major problem that occurs ,with foreign money is the higher risk of counterfeit bills .
Since the money is most likely collected by the young SP's who most of the time have no clue how real US money or Euro should look like and sometimes our own legal tender .


Canadian money is a safer bet even if very recently ,I was told by a SP that I know ,that she received payments with counterfeit Canadian $50 .


Some guys are really really without any scruples,Sadly

Do you get better rates then by simply using your debit card in a bank ATM?

I don't have a debit card and my bank card is from a local bank in the USA. The ATMs would likely hit me with 2 charges, one a transaction fee, and one a conversion fee. On my credit card statements, when I use the card in Montreal I see a conversion fee because they have to convert to US$$$$$$

The rates at Calforex are in line with the aforementioned. There is no such thing as a free exchange. I compare Calforex Peel with other money exchange places and their rates are MUCH better.

When I go in the USA I use my debit. It's a 5$ fixed rate to access the cirrus network or the equivalent. That's it unless I go to private ATM that charge some more, but I go at banks ATM. Here I pay 3$ when I go to a bank that is not mine. The exchange rates are standard. The daily max is 1000$.

In the USA you aren't seeing escorts are you? If you are American and in Montreal and seeing escorts, Canadian cash is King, and debit cards are not an option. The OP is obviously an American and the only way to go for an American in Montreal is with Canadian cash. A debit card isn't gonna help much with escorts. I have never used a credit or debit card to pay for sex in my life, nor do I recommend it.

I use my TD bank ATM card to get cash when I am in Montreal
I get charged no fees, and a competitive rate versus the daily cash rate

TD has a location usually a couple blocks away from my Airbnb location, and it's easy to access the bank while I'm grocery shopping
