Poutine? Yay or Nay?

I recently had a conversation about poutine with a SP.... saying how I didn't like it during my last visit. Anyways, we got into a friendly disagreement. I originally thought poutine was comprised of french fries, cheese curds, and gravy (the type you put on mash potato or turkey). She said it not that kind of gravy but its really more like a bbq sauce. Anyways, I gave it another try today.... and the sauce tasted like the type of gravy you put on mash potato or turkey. Am I missing something?

No you're not, it is the type of gravy you put on turkey or on just the fries alone ( fries with gravy ). I've never heard of bbq sauce used on fries or poutine, and I don't like poutine ( with the cheese curds) but fries with gravy are o.k. , like mashed potatoes and gravy.

The BBQ sauce confusion arises from the fact that in French we call it BBQ sauce, like the sauce you get with your chicken dinner at St. Hubert restaurants.

Poutine uses a gravy that is akin to the kind you eat with turkey albeit thicker and generally tangier. In terms of widely available poutines, I think Lafleur restaurants have the best combo of fries, cheese, and gravy.

Poutine

I have never tried Poutine, and from what I am reading here I probably never will. The only thing that should ever be put on french fries is ketchup, and a little salt. Last time I ate at Baton Rouge I ordered fries with my meal and there was a bottle of ketchup at the table but no gravy. IMHO that's exactly the way it should be.

A great Ashton poutine late at night after an MP/SP visit and a few beers is heaven, life doesn't get much better.

I read the other day that McCain is hard at work at releasing a microwavable poutine. Now this is one that I will not toss into my shopping cart.

Anthony Bourdain was recently in Montreal and had the poutine with fois gras at Au Pied du Cochon and loved it.

Poutine can be made with whatever sauce you like! Some places use BBQ sauce, (like you usually have with chicken), some will use the "hot chicken" type (darker). I had some incredibly good poutine with pepper sauce. There is also Italian poutine (spagetti sauce, with meat preferably).
The type of cheese and potatoes make a huge difference. McDo have poutine and it's not that good (They use those fries that look more like sticks than fries. Good on their own but not for poutine). Some places use cheese that's "been around the block" a few times... The cheese need to be fresh (same day) and it's usually cheddar curds.

For me, the best: nice greasy Quebec fries, not overcooked, mot mushy (Great for the taste, not for your health!!), fresh cheddar curds and hot chicken sauce. 1 layer of fries, 1 layer of cheese, 1 layer of sauce, then repeat the layers!

Horny... I like poutine but, honestly, if I see any women that make me think about poutine when I get a view of the Y, I think I'll pass and... never eat poutine again!

I hear ya but that's why I'm wondering how the hell poutine comes up during an encounter.... I can understand maybe thinking 'shit I gotta mow the grass' if she's got a monster bush.... but to be there snacking away and think about poutine? Man, that is screwed up!

My poutine takes reblochon cheese and crème fraîche for the gravy, and is infinitely tastier although probably as hard on my health...
The poutine au fois gras from le Pied de cochon isn't as good as a tartiflette, but still an interesting experience. The HDH of poutines.

Poutine is yay for me but depends on from where. There's alot of good and bad poutine you gotta know where to go.

Come on H, you've been here since 2004. This is not a new concept. You should really try feeding poutine to an SP just before the encounter and then slop a little on. One of the senior posters here suggested it would be a great thing to try and be a hell of a nasty f__k. Yup, I think all SPs should just bring a big tin of the s__t to every encounter.......LOL
