Yesterday President TRUMP put Congress on notice – they've got three weeks to compromise on funding for the wall, or he will take decisive action to secure our borders.

This is so funny!

The democrats (and quite a few republicans) will offer considerable $$ for border security, which they should. But they will again refuse to send him a single dollar (okay, maybe $1) for that stupid fantasy wall he promised. If they move on this they will have broken their promise to all their voters who overwhelmingly voted them into office at the midterms (the dems picked up over 40 seats in the House to tip the balance in their favor).

Trump has zero leverage. And it's his turn to learn that 'elections do matter'. Trump knows (or should) that his chance to ever get a 'wall' was over the past two years when the rethuglicans owned every branch of the government. But he blew it and now the dems own one of those branches. They therefore have all the leverage over Trump in regards to funding.

Trump will very likely call for a 'national emergency' in order to get $$ for his fantasy wall since it's the only card he will have left. Sure he could get some $$ for the wall in return for permanent protections for DACA & other immigration issues. But as long as nazi/kkk wannabe Stephen Miller is his acting advisor in regards to immigration it'll never happen.

So what we'll likely see is Trump declaring a 'national emergency'. But he won't get a penny since it'll be nullified by the courts. So no money for his fantasy wall. He'll be forced to accept billions of dollars for 'border security', which will include money for border/fencing repairs among other things, like it's always been.

But the reasons most Republicans are against Trump using the shutdown in order to call a 'national emergency' is because they know fully well that it'll create a bad precedent in the fact a future Democrat POTUS could very well do the same thing for issues such as gun control & climate change, among others. But my guess is that Trump is such a narcissist that he'll just do what he feels like doing and call for a 'national emergency' just because he can.

And mark my words this will be GREAT for Democrats. :thumb:

@Doc - yeah, I have come around to him following through on the emergency declaration because I realize it doesn't require him to actually do anything. But also remember he has downgraded wall to just building a few things in some strategic areas and rebuilding or refortifying existing structures. His bad negotiation has made getting even that more unlikely , but that was something the Democrats were offering him before because as a part of a border security package it is reasonable.

@voxclamantis - that's a cute list of nicknames. But yes, despite losing the popular vote as predicted, Trump won the electoral college. And that is still possible even though he is less popular than ever before. The EC is a very broken system but it is what it is.

The group dressed in all white where simply comemorating woman's right to vote right? Which is a nice gesture.

One thing I have to admit is that Alexandria Cortez is absolutely stunning!!!!!!!! Not bimbo beautiful like Ivanka Trump (nothing against those who prefer that tho) more like racy latina beautiful with those big boobs. My god is she hot!

Okay, this might not get anything started, but here it goes. I would say Katie Hill is a 7 and I give AOC an 8.5. I might be too generous to AOC, but I like the Latina look and the big Julia Roberts smile. And yes as someone mentioned, AOC has quite the rack. Certainly, AOC rated higher in her college days.

Either way, I would like to see AOC and Katie Hill together on the floor. They still know what to do with a caucus. AOC would be a great whip.

Seriously, though, is this the best the Democrats can do?

Don't count them out so fast. The Democrats have a lot qualified candidates to choose from. However if I were them, I wouldn't take beating Trump for granted. There are a lot of "deplorables" in the middle of the country. I fear the Dems will nominate some instant loser who will roll up huge margins in California. Liberals will again be overly-impressed with this performance in a State where the Dems are basically buying the love of their constituents.

Elizabeth Warren is a non-factor. Fox News gives her a lot of coverage because her candidacy is such a joke.

Hmmm, Kamala, Kamala, Kamala. Will Democrats really punish her for sleeping her way to the top? It will only happen if one primary candidate decides to torch her in what will likely be a suicide mission for this candidate.

Agree with you! So we agree that Vox was a troll and that AOC is a hot babe we would dream of banging. See despite the fact that I am some kind of democrat we can still get along ;)

I'm gonna side on the AOC hotter than Katie here. (I like curvy and dark haired) However, I also find AOC's voice annoying, and that is a hit against her.

I'm still a sucker for Kysten Sinema and her weird boots, furs, and "fuck you" attitude.

Hmmm, Amy Klobuchar. Could she have flown under the radar and now be a Presidential threat? Can she bring home the industrial Heartland?

Perhaps her candidacy is more intriguing than I initially thought. Perhaps she can win the moderate track in the Democratic primaries. She's younger than Biden and of course she's female. Most of the female moderates I know sound like her. If I was a Democrat, I would be concerned a swing to the left such as that of many announced contenders will hand Trump an electoral victory and another round of crying about how popular we are in California.

Would Amy Klobuchar be acceptable to Valcazar, Rumpleforeskin and the Insane Trump Derangement Posse? Amy K. voted with Trump 32% of the time. That makes her 32% evil to many.

Senator Cory Booker has said in an interview "I’ve seen incredible vegan cheese shops popping up across the country, and my friends who are lovers of cheese just can’t tell the difference."

If his friends are intellectual giants of the same caliber as the esteemed senator himself, I suppose it is no wonder that they can not tell real cheese from tasteless fake junk. I bet President Trump must be thanking his lucky stars for this bunch of potential rivals.

Look behind you.
Seen a meme. Picture of Oprah as VP and Michelle Obama as president. Caption " Reason Oprah is not president is because it is too tough for a woman to be president ".
If you also had good weed you would think it is funny too.

I love the recent quote where Booker basically says he substantially converted Newark (as Mayor) to solar energy and created a green jobs revolution there. The Far Left might eat that up. However if he blows that smoke at a debate, one of his primary opponents might castrate him for such hyperbole.

Patron, I think this is a good thing. She has put this on the table now which means other people will be forced to respond, and her 180 on the issue means she is likely to actually get hard questions on it. Right now she is just hand waving but this might actually open up a real discussion.

Patron, that you don't trust her is fine. I'm not arguing you should. I am saying that since this is a key point for you (position on sex work criminalization) then this is a good thing. She is going to be grilled on this. Because she is a leading contender, if she is grilled on it and gives any kind of response, the *other* candidates will be asked about it as well. This means an issue you care about will actually be discussed and people will have to take a position on it, instead of just ignoring it. Usually, if something gets into the discussion and people are forced to make public statements about it, the odds of things happening on the issue go up.

Of course, what position the others will take is unknown. If most everyone else goes for cracking down on sex work, that will be bad. But instead of it just not being talked about it, people will actually be addressing it.
