I still find the thought amusing!

Soon, on top of working the streets a girl might have to sell her first born and his soul seprately in order to meet month ends.

I suggest we all manage to save enough money for a plane ticket out of here in case of financial distress; instead of the Montreal streets at -40, we should head to a shantytown on some caribbean island! We might be poor, but at least we won't freeze outside! :D

You know, when I was on the streets, I was so tempted to jump the boarder with some friends by hopping a train. We were going to go to Florida... Go figure I chickened out in the end, I did not want to face being deported once seeing the warm sun.
If I was faced with a similar situation again (just by safer means...) I would do it. Must be better on the streets there than here...

I`d rather face deportation than freeze to death, not even thinking twice about it. Freezing is garanteed while deportation isn`t (many illegal aliens are never found after all).

You know the old saying : for each problem, there is a solution... :)

As I mentioned there is a massage salon that is offering a $10 discount + a $10 gas card + a $30 shaving.[...]That is all happening all around you. Wake up and smell your $6 Starbucks mocka latte capachino!

I have one serious question. When you say "shaving" you mean

1- 30$ discount
2- Shaving as with a razor (could it be that one can actually be paid to shave someone else?)

For my coffee, I drink home made coffee which costs me roughly 6$ per month... 6$ for cup of coffee!! Yeah right!

you know what Lilly, I am going to jump on board with you... 2 for 1.... all that plus an extra few holes.

And a Starbucks Venti is 5.31$ so ya about 6 bucks for a coffee, but this is not just any coffeee.... it is special coffee...:D

No, really. It is really good and very nice when I can afford it, but, you know how life is, sometimes we just can't have it all and 20$ a day on coffee is just not in the budget right now....

And by shaving,(2) yes, men pay to get shaved by nice young ladies.....

I'll bring you along!!! And we wouldn't be on the street, that address is actually a (4h rental) motel! Nice....... With that weather, we can sleep in a cardboard box! :D If the conversion rate is still the same, 600 pesos is about 30$ US.

I am learning something new everyday! I always did it to whoever would ask me to shave them. Just thought that was kind of cool that they trusted me that much!! :(

Sure, and with all due respect the the various attributes of attractive young ladies, I think I'll stick with doing it myself or a middle-aged Italian gentleman who has decades of experience putting a straight-razor to the throats of men.

On the other hand, I was wondering what was being shaved: Face, or other areas.

I just paid $5.90 for a pound of custom-grind custom-roasted coffee. I guess it costs me about $24/month for coffee far better than anything you can find on the street. Brulerie St. Denis and Café Toi et Moi on Laurier being the only two exceptions I know of.

Well, it does have to do with experience and sometimes trust as well, if they were regs... I would say comfort. The less nervous they are about the girl nicking them with the razor in the wrong spot the better it goes.

I have never done this (even when working at salons) because I am just too scared to hurt something that I shouldn't.

And yvo.... face and other areas, ..... hense, scary for me....
As much as I like shaved men, I would always say that anyone is better off doing it them selves....

The first time I ever went to the southern United States I was shocked by how many homeless we could see, then I realized that many will migrate there, because at least you won't freeze to death, literally.

All joking aside, the Old Brewery Mission and accueil sans boneau do tons of fundraising this time of year. I encourage everybody to throw as much as you can their way, or if you see someone less fortunate than yourself on the street reach out, buy them a meal, or give them a $20 for shelter for the night. They are real people too.

You reminded me of a homeless guy who begs for money near where I live. I indulged him from time to time, but one winter he disappeared. He came back in April, with a perfect tan. I asked him about it, and it turned out he hopped onto a freight train going south, and eventually ended up in Florida. I thought about the freedom of dropping everything and going some place warm for a few months (I wouldn't want to live in Florida all year round), and for a split second, I was envious :)

Yeah, I still can't sleep either... Debating wether I stay up and try to be productive today or if I try a 3h nap to start again after. Either way, I'm ADD right now and can't focus.

Thank you Miss Tracy for chatting with me all night! That was fun!

I'll send you the invitation when I do the move to Dominican Republic! ;)

You ladies Lilly and Tracy, talk like people are already waiting in soup lines. All this talk about going back on the street, there is no street scene to go back to.It is all different now. Places like Vancouver and Florida that have a street scene are very dangerous, you can get you throat slit in the streets there by weirdos and heroin addicts.

guess you haven`t been by the Old Brewery Mission or Maison du Frere or Cafe Dans la Rue any one of the other places lately....

Montreal has a huge homeless problem. On very cold nights you still see them outside begging or squeeging or sleeping in doorways because there is not enough beds in the shelters.

So for the times of recession / depression... lower the rates, work more, cut back on extreme luxuries and take a pic of that Starbucks Venti Mocha.... I already switched to Timmies and Starbucks is a memory for now.... but do not under any circumstances sell your soul, nor that of your first born  . There are many other solutions before going that low.

Never. I'll never do it.....I'll never give up my Ventis....I'll quit hobbying first.....well....let me think about that for a while....

Seriously, for me nothing has changed, I get as much buisness as I did before. You all have to keep in mind that I am less available because of school, but now I am in Ottawa and things are rolling pretty well. I do not see why prices should go down.. Let the super market prices go down first.. it seems crazy how expensive food has become. 3 years ago I could live with 40 dollars a week, now I almost need that every day.
