Hey, it's Christmas after all!! :thumb:

Cut Putin some slack. He wasn't the one who threw the girls in prison, after all. Plus, i think he's a great leader. A country that was out-of-control like Russia was after the collapse of the Soviet Union needs someone like Putin to hold the house together, so to speak. A weak leader would be bad for a vast country such as Russia.

Putin does not deserve the benefit of the doubt. Putin is a former senior KGB Lieutenant Colonel who spent 16 years as an officer of the KGB. He is a power-hungry ego-maniac autocrat who was successful in getting around Russia's Presidential term limits rule. He runs a very authoritarian and undemocratic regime under which most of the political and financial power is controlled by Putin confidants with a state security background, coming from governmental security and intelligence agencies, the Police and the Army. His regime pays lips service to free market democracy but, in reality, his regime is a peculiar form of fascism. The Putin regime tends to want to emulate the former Soviet Union’s grandeur, belligerence and expansionism, and because of Putin's unbending support for the Syrian dictatorship, he bears much of the responsibility for the continuing massacre of men, women and children by the Syrian dictatorship.

These bimbos are actually very lucky that President Vladimir Putin is a strong leader with a soft heart. If it was up to me, they'd all rot in jail for behaving so disgracefully!

Jail was a light sentence for them.

If this was the old USSR they would have been hung or shot.

Like many of the youths today, no respect for anything and the notion they are above the law and when the law cracks down on them they cry foul!

The above comments would seem to indicate a misconception about the true nature of their so-called "crime". After all, all they are guilty of is performing a song on the alter of a church denouncing Putin and the links between Putin and the leadership if the Orthodox Church. Here is the video of their performance:
All they are guilty of is simply exercising their fundamental human right of free speech.

Speaking of human rights, the Pussy Riot members, recently released from jail, have announced that they will now be changing tactics. They will not be continuing with their Pussy Riot musical project, but instead plan to create a human rights group called “Rights Zone” to fight for human rights in Russia, focusing particularly on improving Russia’s penal system and defending the rights of prisoners: Thus, we can expect to hear more from them in the future.

Which does not mean they received a light sentence. "Not as bad as the Soviet Union" does not equal lenient. (We can leave aside the absurdity of thinking the USSR would have punished anyone for disrupting a church service.)

"Bimbos"! That's nice. And anyone who thinks Putin has a soft heart ought to do some reading.

If it was up to me, they'd all rot in jail for behaving so disgracefully!

Ok, so now we know about you.

The church is a sacred place and should not be used as a stage for anyones political views. They did this knowing that the shock value would genarate publicity to their cause.

They got the publicity they needed in that their disgracful act was punished. This has nothing to do with their cause but the actions they used to get their world out.

Acting like hooligans has no place in any society and will only lead to it's deterioration.

I totally agree!! They got what they deserved. This isn't the USA or Canada, but Russia where the law is different. Anarchy should not be encouraged & tolerated!

Long live Vladimir Putin!!! Long live Russia!!!

One option for these gentlemen might be to visit Christian Callgirl, who is on Twitter and who describes herself as a Christian and gentleman's companion. Unfortunately, she also describes herself as a human rights activist, which might not go over too well with the two gentlemen we are referring to.

I have no problem with 'activists' as long as they're ready to face the consequences from the people they've been targetting.

If the Pussy Riot hadn't offended their great leader in such a public manner, basically to embarrass him, then they never would have landed in prison.

It happened in Russia, not in a democracy like ours. The bimbos should have known better, and stop whining about their sentence once they received it. You just don't offend a great supreme leader liike Vladimir Putin and try to embarrass him publicly and expect to get away with this type of behaviour.

President Putin showed a lot of self restraint and clemency in granting the anarchists freedom recently. He showed he ws a compassionate person with a kind heart. He showed that he had the ability to turn the page and move forward.

Bravo to President Vladimir Putin!! It's unfortunate that the world doesn't have more great leaders like him! :thumb:

I am curious about your source of information regarding Putin, since self restraint, clemency, compassion and kind heart are not at all characteristics associated with the man. As to Putin's motivation for releasing the Pussy Riot members, here is one of the many articles explaining why their release is occurring now:

RobinX, don't believe everything your told from the western media, especially the american media who's always been very biased towards President Putin, the same way they had been towards the great Hugo Chavez of Venezuela. The same they've been towards Fidel & Raoul Castro. Funny that Canada has never had a problem with those leaders, while the US wants people to believe that they despise them (for politcial reasons, of course).

Long live Vladimir Putin, one of the greatest leaders of our time!!! :thumb:

I agree that once you publicly defy the authorities in a country like Russia you are exposing yourself to tough consequences. On the other hand, orthodox religious practice in Russia seems quite marginal, just like here, so the Pussy Riots have actually done something that offends very few people but they got an exemplary punishment for it.

I agree. And President Putin showed exemplary composure & conduct in releasing them in order for them to be with their families for the holidays. Hopefully other anarchists and would-be anarchists will have learned a lesson from this incident. Anyone in their right mind should know that you do not insult or attempt to publicly embarrass a great and powerful leader such as Vladimir Putin!

Wrong. The Orthodox Church is in bed with Putin's regime and supported him in the recent elections. That's what Pussy Riot was protesting and that's why they chose a church to do it in.

I have no problem with 'activists' as long as they're ready to face the consequences from the people they've been targetting.

They went to prison, which is called facing the consequences. The question is, were the consequences just? And they weren't. A prison sentence for disturbing the peace is absurd.

If the Pussy Riot hadn't offended their great leader in such a public manner, basically to embarrass him, then they never would have landed in prison.

You said it, I didn't. The business about disrupting the sacred dignity of the church is sham. They're being punished for speaking out against somebody who wants to make himself dictator.

It happened in Russia, not in a democracy like ours. The bimbos should have known better, and stop whining about their sentence once they received it.

Let's say, delicately, that you're not clear on the ethics involved here. Yes, Russia has a repressive government. You imagine that this, somehow, makes the repression okay. It doesn't.

And the girls didn't expect to get away with what they did. They knew how Putin treats enemies and they stood up to him anyway. I haven't heard any whining from them about the outcome; what they've said is that their sentence was illegitimate, which it was. They are fighting political repression and you expect them to say repression is a good thing. Are you sure you've thought this out?

Another thing: when you use bigoted language like "bimbos," you embarrass yourself. Do yourself a favor and raise your game.

President Putin showed a lot of self restraint and clemency in granting the anarchists freedom recently. He showed he ws a compassionate person with a kind heart.

You know the Sochi games are coming up, right? Okay, maybe you don't ...

Guys, judging Putin by western standards is completely wrong. There is no chance for anybody to stay in power in modern Russia if he is not some kind of a thug. Give him some credit, he at least trying to balance good and bad and he is obviously not stupid.
