One of my Toronto buddies was telling me he had zero interest in the women’s league & would never attend or even bother to watch a game. So i told him ”you’re the guy who watches CFL football & follows Toronto FC in soccer so you shouldn’t complain.” He was surprised at my reply & asked me of i’d watch it. I replied “Maybe if there is nothing else to watch but i’ll watch them before i ever consider watching the CFL, soccer or the Marlies.” He hung up.

Frankly I've given up on the NHL and on the Habs since they used their #1 draft pick on a sex offender.
Perhaps this women's league will be what it takes to get me to watch pro hockey again.

If you’re referring to Logan Mailloux then i think describing him as a sex offender is misleading. He didn’t rape or sexually abuse anyone. The error he made was not that he filmed the girl who gave him the blowjob. Many do this kind of stuff & the girl likely was consenting to this. His mistake was sharing the video with some of his teammates without her consent. Of course he likely never figured it would get back to her but it did & he’s paid a price for his mistake in judgement. But was Bergevin wrong in drafting him with his first pick? Probably but only because teams ahead of them in the draft order had decided to ignore Mailloux, who himself had asked teams not to draft him. It was an unwritten agreement among GM’s not to draft him. He was toxic. But Bergevin ignored this & made himself & the team look shady by drafting him anyway. Yes it was a shady move. But i don’t blame the kid in this situation. I blame Bergevin. And who knows maybe it was one of the things that led to Bergevin’s firing.

Not me, as much as I love the game I find PWHL to be at a lower level than junior hockey. The game is just too slow for me, the only reason I still watch the NHL is because of the incredible speed it is played today if we compare to the ´70s. Today’s NHL players are absolutely insane athletes.

I have been a big hockey fan since the early 70’s. My favorite team growing up were the Boston Bruins with Espo & Orr & later with the likes of Park, Ratelle & Middleton. Back then i also enjoyed watching old games from the 60’s. But these past few years when i’d feel like checking out a game from the 70’s I found the games literally unwatchable because of how slow it was & all the holding going on that was allowed back in those days. I look at many of the players skating back then & realize that maybe i wasn’t such a bad skater after all! But the most glaring difference is the goaltending. Goalies back then were smaller in stature & didn’t seem to be very agile. Even worse in the 60’s & earlier! The main difference were the fighting. Almost every game you’d see a few fights. If this was still the case today games would last 4 hours!

I too put the blame on Bergevin, but the coaching staff was also on board with his choice. It was a very long time after until Bergevin got shit-canned and no mention of the Mailloux affair was offered as a reason. That would have gone long way to restoring the teams reputation.
As for calling the player in question a sex offender, I stand by it.

Toronto FC sucks but they play in a high level league. Can’t shame your buddy for following MLS because you don’t like Soccer.

The Marlies comparison is more interesting as it is a low level league but the play is much faster than the PWHL. Those guys would win against any PWHL team.

And their equipment was absolutely terrible, I was goaltending from my pee wee years to company leagues in my mid thirties and I saw the progression in equipment and techniques. Nobody knows the meaning of being « bruised up » until they kept the goal in the ´70s.

The goallies equipment became huge. The league had to rule on that. Remember how Patrick Roy seemed to have gained about 60 pounds weight compared to his 1986 and 1993 Stanley Cup wins !

He was 17 years old when it happened.
Did he deserved the death penalty ?
17 years old teens drive cars drunk and kill people and aren't judged as adults in Canada and don't do much time in prison
