Quebec birth rate rose last year for the first time since 2012

MONTREAL -- A 0.4 per cent increase in Quebec’s birth rate last year is the first the province has seen since 2012, according to Quebec's statistics agency.

There were an estimated 84,200 births in the province in 2019, compared to 83,840 the year before, representing a minor increase of 360.

The change is being attributed to an increase in the number of women in Quebec who are of childbearing age, rather than a change in the province's fertility rate. In fact, the fertility rate actually dropped last year -- from 1.59 children per woman in 2018 to 1.58 in 2019.

Although %age wise the numbers are fairly small. but it might cause big headaches in the future because from what I see,
quite a lot of these newborns are welfare kids, more kids more government checks more $$s for the 'Parent'.

Working couples, with a good income keeping the baby count low to around 2 yet the welfare, unmarried mothers
are having 4, 5 kids (If not more) because the others are paying with their hard earned tax dollars.

Also we can note that we have an opposition leader with 5 kids thanks to Canadian taxpayers and ...party handouts.

What do you expect. The government is paying people to have kids and they keep on throwing more and more money at people who got kids. Montreal is already overpopulated we need less population not more.

Exactly. They have kids to have the free money. The government penalizes single unmarried people like me with high taxes and gives it to them. The government mismanages money big time. Single unmarried mothers with 4 or 5 kids do not need to even work that is how much money they are getting.

I don't think anybody can disagree with this, hit the nail right on the head...

Of course my idea would be much different then the government ideology / logic.
(Thats why I have not perused a government job, like want or I have tried very hard LOL).

My idea of course would be totally against the mainstream thinking.

I would pay nothing or pay just for one child if the person hasn't contributed to the system.

On the other hand, I would give more to the working, professional parents much much more in tax breaks and money so they
can have more children and since they are paying into the system and most of their kids will end up professional or educated
like the parents themselves and help and contribute into the system, where the other ones after the money runs out at 18 most
probably they will turn to crime and stuff like that... we don't have to look far enough to see whats happening around us.

In the 40s and 50s in Quebec, the rural Quebecois would have 8-12 kids. The birth rate has dropped to a low point so any increase from the bottom looks big.
