R.I.P Diego Maradona

One of the best football players ever passed away form a heart attack on the 25 November.
The whole of Argentina is in mourning and he will be remembered by soccer fans all over the world.

One of the few players in the world who could decide a game almost by himself, an unstoppable goal scorer.
I will never forget the two goals he scored in the 1986 World Cup quarterfinal against England one of which will live on for ever as the now famous goal aided by “ The Hand Of God” . Argentina went on to win the World Cup with his leadership.
There were other notable Argentinian players like Alfredo Di Stefano Who will always live on in the hearts of Real Madrid fans and the current Lionel Messi considered the best right now with C. Ronaldo.
No other Argentinian though had the notoriety or the flare of Maradona.
Unfortunately as with many great athletes he had a troubled life after riddled with drug convictions and abuse.

He will however always be remembered by Argentina. They were humiliated by the English and many lives were lost in the Falkland War over a barren worthless island In 1982.
Maradona gave them back their lost pride 4 years later with 2 gaols scored in the 1986 World Cup quarter final to defeat the hated English and live on as a national hero forever.

Maradona was not known for fair play and being a gentleman on the field or off for that matter, he was not Pelé or even Messi.
He was one of the best goal scorers ever and he did what ever he had to to get it in the net.
C Ronaldo will not be remembered for his gentlemanly conduct on or off the field either but there is no denying his spectacular talent the same for Maradona.

He will always be remembered as one of the greatest that ever played the game.

To be honest i was certain that he had passed away a few years ago until i saw the announcement of his death the other day. I never found him to be that great of a soccer player but what do i know?

He was one of the best.
A pure goal scorer he is not only held in high esteem in Argentina but also in Italy he played probably his best football from 1984-1994 for Napoli.
Prior to that he played two years for Barcelona.
He was also reputed to have connections to drug cartels so he was by no means a great human being.
He really did spend all his money on drugs, booze and women, and the rest he wasted as Hungry would say.

He probably spared some for food, otherwise it would have been difficult to balloon to 300 pounds after he quit playing. About twice his weight in his prime.

Some how I am getting the feeling you are not a fan lol.
It is quite common for many top athletes to balloon out of shape.
They still have the same appetite but with little or no exercise.
You should have seen Puskás after he stopped playing, looked like a miniature good year blimp, guess he was doing too much sampling at his sausage factory in Madrid.

In my book, Cruyff was the best ever, at least among those I have seen playing. Remember that penalty kick?

Cruyff was certainly a very talented player and one of the best the Dutch ever had unfortunately another nation that was probably best in the world more than once during World Cup competition but never won one.

For me during my time it was probably Franz Beckenbauer one of only three to win a World Cup as a manager and a player.
Being a goal keeper however my favourite player was also a Dutch player Edwin Van Der Sar he played 130 games for the Dutch national side and was a standout in his career with Manchester United.
