I regret to inform the MERB community that two weeks ago, Gabriella from Eleganza (alias Maribel from XXXtase) died in a car crash in Montreal. She was a passenger and was thrown from the car on a highway, the male driver is currently in a hospital.

John can attest (begrudgingly) that I got to know Gabriella outside of the business, developing a strong, yet brief, platonic relationship with her. Those of you who saw her know that she could light up a room and she definitely reinvigorated many of us.

Her family is devastated: I have heard stories about the driver's cognitive impairment at the time of the crash, but I will save that for the courts. The last I heard is that she had not escorted in well over a month.

My condolences to her family, friends (some of whom I met), and my friends at Eleganza: John, Emely, etc. Gabriella had her own personal problems, but always put that aside when she entered her client's room. Many of you will remember her ice cube tricks, which I was the first one to experience. She was much more than a good lay to me, she was a very sweet, loving, and generous person that was always around when I needed her. In fact, she took me out for birthday, spending hundreds of dollars on dinner and drinks, and then actually got me an escort for my birthday. She was a very kind person who just got caught up in a dangerous lifestyle, precipitated by her start in strip clubs at the tender age of 16.

At the time of her death, she and I were not speaking. In fact, we had crossed paths on St Catherine a month earlier, but I chose to walk right past her. I now regret that...

This is really a sad story. My deepest condolences to you Board Stiff, I can see that she really had an impact on your life if even for only a short time. Condolences also to her friends, family and coworkers.

I would also like to express my deepest condolences to Board Stiff and everyone who felt close to 'Gabriella' at a certain point in their lives. I had never met her, but a friend of mine who has always had nice things to say about her. I'm sure that he feels very sad about the tragedy right now. I can tell that you were once quite close to her, Board Stiff, and please understand that even though you presently feel very guilty about not saying hello to her on the street when you last crossed her path, you were not able to read into the future. What happened did happen, and it was none of your fault. Life is short, and never take it for granted. It can end very quickly.

Again, thanks for sharing your story.

My deepest condolences to Board Stiff as well as Gabriella's family and friends. Those who knew her, as well as those of us who didn't, should always keep her in mind when we go out for a few drinks. Driving under the influence, whether it be alcohol or drugs, can cost a life. It's not worth the risk. Ever. :(

My condolences as well...to you, Board Stiff, and to her family. I didn't know her, but a life lost to drunk driving is senseless and avoidable.

It is a unfortunate for all of us that most drunk drivers survive car crashes while others pay for their irresponsibility with their lives. Although, a life spent coping with guilt from such an act must be hell.

Reading your thoughtful and sensitive post about Gabriella leads me to believe she had a kind and generous spirit. A definate shame she is no longer with us, as the world could use more people like her.

Board Stiff: Try not to be down on yourself for your last (non)encounter with her. Try to remember the good times you had with her and how she enriched your life and you, hers. I am sure that you understand the invaluble lesson her death confronted you with. Consider it a last gift from her and cherish it's wisdom. No one ever knows when their time or another's time will come. For certain though, it will...for all of us.

As a general note, I am actually deeply touched to see this kind of commemoration for a (former) sex worker. Sometimes the life of a sex worker is not valued enough by anyone to honour her (or him, as the case may be), even in death. Thank you for actually caring, Board Stiff.

*hugs*

Magda,
Very nicely stated.
Please just know that I do not know if the driver was drunk or on drugs at the time of impact, nor did i mean to factualize that in my first post. There are many more people that she effected in the industry, from john, to martin xxxtase, and others. I should not be the receiver of all the condolences.

Drink or drugs, it doesn't matter to me. Impaired in any way, the driver should have never been behind the wheel.

Condolences

Board Stiff please receive my condolences and same goes out to her family and friends, I never met this girl but the outpouring of love, affection and respect make me belive this must have been a good kind human being.

I will always regreat seing a young life disappear as we will never know what the full potential of that life will have been, but you can see in the messages today and the grief felt by you that she in fact touch some and will remain in your memories bringing joy to your face one day when you refelct on your life, that in itself deserves my admiration to her.
