I do not think any province will pass a similar law unless an alt right group gets power. For someone who hates racist Trump you sure stick up for a racist premier.
No, they are making big money because the oil companies were making big money, there was never a shortage of oilfield workers because of the big money, oil companies were making huge profits and able to pay well, not like banks who make a bigger profit and pay peanuts but that is a different story. People came from all over Canada to work in Alberta due to the big money being paid. From what I gather from your post immigrants should be paid a low wage to get work in Canada.
You are ascribing irrational economic behavior to companies whose leadership’s objectives is or should be to make money for stockholders. Your analysis, if true, would provoke shareholders derivative lawsuits. A for profit company should always have as its business objective making money. You don’t make money when you pay workers more than you need to. What I am suggesting is that in a country whose resources and production capabilities outstrip its population’s ability to supply manpower to exploit the resources and production potential, allowing in immigrants willing to work the same jobs at lower wages is a common sense objective for a for profit company whose duties are to its shareholders. This is a common sense analysis for anyone who took a college economics course. It is controlling supply and demand in the labor work force.
^^^^^^^ I agree with you..... but the oil companies were paying that ki d of money because it was difficult to hire " good " employees who would work away from home 80% of the time. I do not think they were interested in hiring a refugee with zero knowledge in the industry, safety is number one in the oil industry, it trumps everything these day and they know cheap workers will not achieve that goal. Yes, the construction, business industry may get away with your thinking but it does not work in the oil patch. When awarding contracts we look at the companies safety record, actually if the company does not have a good safety record they are not allowed to bid on our work. There is a huge misconception in the Canada oilfield, we have the most environmentally friendly extraction process, we have the lowest injury rate, our improvements in GHG emissions gets better every year, something the Canadian oil patch strives for. All this costs money and the investors sees all these steps as a necessary tool to continue.
Too bad we have foreign interests and a bunch of ignorant environmentalists against us... The US under Trump is thriving, the largest oil and gas producer in the world, not a peep from Green Peace....

Some of those jobs are probably skilled labor and some are unskilled labor calling for hardworking grunts. Some of my clients are immigrants and all of them work in the food, restaurant and landscaping businesses. There is no skill needed in these industries except when it comes to preparation of ethnic foods and cuisines, as in their cultures. My Asian and African clients have unique skills in the preparation of foods made in their countries of origin which they bring to their businesses. What they all have in common though is that they need attorneys. Immigrants to the USA generally continue to conduct their businesses as they did in their countries of origin until they run afoul of local food and health regulators and that’s when attorneys come in to rescue them from the clutches of government regulators.
This leading news story in CT today is a good example of what I am talking about. What this guy did - executing a runaway cow from his meat market business which included livestock that was still alive pre-butchering - would have been perfectly acceptable in Afghanistan but it’s not acceptable in a parking lot of a Home Depot in Connecticut with gaping spectators:

That being said, executing a cow in a specactle in front of the public wasn’t a very good idea even if that is what would have been done in Afghanistan. So now this guy needs an attorney. So you see Sol, I see immigration as a great opportunity for business. All of these people coming in to the country need help and guidance. And money can be made giving it while enjoying the fruits of their labors at discounted prices.

You must have misread my post. I condemn Trump’s politics of hatred & fear. This is going to lead to violence sooner or later and everyone will be worse off. It’s a like a violent bar brawl - if u don’t punch hard enough, yr opponent kicks yr ass. If u punch too hard and yr opponent dies or is seriously hurt, u go to jail. It’s a crappy no-win situation that is to be avoided at all cost.
I’m no fan of Ilhar Omar and the US immigration system is severely broken, allowing in many immigrants who have little ability or desire to integrate. But instead of trying to reform the immigration system, Trump has chosen to make political hay with hateful incendiary chants or sending US military personnel to the US/Mexican border for a fake mission.

That is correct. We go over to Saudi Arabia for business and have to live on a compound. We abide by their laws and there are no complaints. Colleagues of mine in Switzerland told me a few years ago that the Swiss voted against allowing the Muslims to construct a minuet so that they could sing out the call to prayer. The media all over Europe called them out as racists. My colleagues told me that in private citizens all over in Europe would tell the Swiss that you did the right thing and add would intimate that they are taking over in our country, etc. One colleague said that exact same thing: We have nude beaches, we drink wine, we dress in a certain way and we eat a lot of pork.
