My random thought about BC and their drug policies. First the decriminalization of all drugs under 2.5 grams ( people are shooting up in parks ) and now this.
British Columbia will require all of its hospitals to provide a designated space for patients with substance-use disorders to consume illicit drugs, prompted by concerns that an increase in such activity in prohibited hospital areas was putting health care workers at risk.
WTF are they doing.. Personal opinion.

The drug policies followed by the current federal and provincial administrations are nothing more than enabling people with addiction issues to consume hard drugs. It only adds to their misery.
The only way to deal with an addiction to a drug is through total abstinence. Personal opinion.
Except going cold turkey can kill people (literally). I suggest you read up on the concept of harm reduction (réduction des méfaits)
And I presume if they are supervised in these places and if they want to stop, they can have resources and follow up to do so.

I get the policy but one needs to make some areas a no go, one would be hospitals. Hastings in Vancouver was bad 5 years ago with the odd sighting of street drug use, now it is a free for all. With overdose deaths going up their plan is not working.
You would probably have the same chance of being in a car accident or less than dying from going cold turkey. It's like saying someone can win a lottery, possible but not likely. Addicts go cold turkey many times when they run out of money or their source dries up.

As someone who lost someone due to them going cold turkey, I am not arguing semantics about this. It's a lot more common than winning the lottery and also a lot more serious.
EDIT : I also find it wild that people have an issue with safe drug use sites but these same people have been to a bar at least a dozen times... As if alcohol wasn't the deadliest of poisons
My (not so random) thought today is : people are often confused between a cold and a flu. Trust me, if you have the flu, you will know. Lol
Just in case you do hear of someone going through withdrawals ( cold turkey ) the best thing one can do is keep them very hydrated. Dehydration is probably the number one reason withdrawal patients go to the hospital.

Has making drugs illegal ever stopped addicts from getting them.
Did prohibition stop the use and manufacturing of alcohol.
Was it better when weed was illegal.
I don’t use drugs at all, I prefer a glass of wine or a cognac but I think making weed legal was a step in the right direction, at least now people are not arrested and jailed for something that is no worse than ordinary cigarettes and alcohol and they can get it from a government store where they can be sure it is safe for them to consume.
Perhaps making it legal for a small amount will stop a lot of the criminal activity surrounding drugs and if it can be administered in a safe hospital setting all the better and perhaps introduce a program to help addicts get off it at the same time.
