So considering an avg donation of 500, you find 12 guys willing to contribute 42$ per month for 12 months. You draw turns randomly to order who goes 1st to 12th

Each month the designated person has 500 to book an indy without breaking the bank, hoping the 42$ does not impact their individual budget,

The most complicated is finding 12 guys who won't skip on the contribution after they have taken their turn,

You are joking lol.
You get to see an Indy once a year and you may have to wait 12 months.
I guess Christmas comes but once a year, and not necessarily in December.

This is why it can never work! Unless you can withhold the amount on their credit card.

It's a bit like clients who contact us asking for a discount because they WILL see you every week, all year long! What can you expect? You give them a 200$ discount one time and... never see them again. So you can expect the client to want to invest the least amount, so they'll get their appointment and disappear.

you don't stop your regular hobbying, it's a way to set the funds aside for a more expensive experience that you might not go for if the money has to come out all at once

That's fair.
In the same vein, some of the more expensive Indies seem to have a no-review policy. I am okay paying a premium to get a superior experience, but I am not going to pay 600-1000 in the hopes that it will be good.

Reviews are only an indicator of the past. If they're all good, it doesn't mean you won't have a bad experience. You can think it's more likely you get a good experience, but in the end, you can only hope that it will be good!

Sure, and there is always a YMMV factor. But with someone who has a no-review policy... well, it's like going on a blind date and paying hundred of $ upfront hoping it will be good.
I guess I am just risk averse when it comes to that? I would also not book a SP from LL with no reviews even if the date costs $100.

Reviews are only an indicator of the past. If they're all good, it doesn't mean you won't have a bad experience. You can think it's more likely you get a good experience, but in the end, you can only hope that it will be good!

I think stellar reviews only gives stellar expectations… We never know if chemistry will kick in or not. More likely yes

You can try to reduce the risk to a minimum, I agree. But my point was that, there is never no-risk and it's always like "going on a blind date and paying hundred of $ upfront hoping it will be good."

What I observed is that few providers gain substantially from good reviews nor are they impacted from bad reviews. On the other side, a lot of bad reviews will bring a lot of attention to said provider and bring her lots of opportunities, and the result seems to be the same with a tremendous amount of stellar reviews. The amount of reviews seems to impact someone's popularity rather than them being good or bad. So, are they that useful?

I've not noticed that, then again I am just an individual. But if I see a bunch a bad reviews (and I mean red flags, not YMMV items; and I indeed sometimes cross reference other reviews written by the same client to rule out it's not a client issue), then I am staying the hell away from said SP even if she 100% matches my taste. I would even go as far as saying that I can detect red flags for me personally for SPs who have page and pages of great reviews.

I will give a more concrete example. Kira Nielsen from Tyrst really matches my taste, but I would not book her because I cannot see her face nor are there reviews about her. If she had the same amount of stellar reviews like let's say Katrina Vianna, then I would have far less hesitation to book her.
