You can get tested at Prelib downtown, they have 2 locations that are 2 steps away from metro stations. It is usually very fast to get an appointment and your results will be shared to you by phone whether they’re positive or negative. They will then be added on your portal and you can print them out and frame them if that’s your thing.

If you have the RAMQ card, anciennement la carte soleil, it won’t be more than $15 to get tested. You can go as often as you want, they do not judge.

I've been using Prelib for regular testing since 2020 the ability to manage/modify your booking with their portal is fantastic. For those who aren't familiar it's kind of a "self-serve" style of clinic (I always use the Berri location so can't speak about the others) you are given a code to access the clinic, once inside you sign in at a terminal.

There's a small waiting area, you probably will only ever run into maybe one or two other folks waiting there at most, you get called in by a nurse who will review your application, settle up your bill and draw your blood. You are then be given the tubes and swabs for the remainder of your tests, at which point you head to one of the bathrooms complete them and leave, takes max 10-15min.

As of about 2 weeks ago the turnaround for results was about 1 week, which is pretty decent at times it's been longer.

Will it show up in my carnet sante? Will my family Dr (or any dr seeing me in the future) see that I got tested for sti?
I can imagine a few scenarios where this can turn into a nightmare…

Why would your family doctor judge you? Unless your family doctor is your wife I’m not sure I understand the problem

Seriously, your doctors won’t judge you because you got tested. If anything they’ll probably think you are a responsible individual. A lot of people go their whole life without getting tested and believe me it’s not because they’re abstinent.

Just as some doctors might treat a patient differently if they found out he has an alcohol or drug problem (I remember reading a study that I cant find now). For some traditional, family oriented dr getting tested for sti - especially if they know you are married - might affect your perception of you and by extension your care.
2nd- in my case my family dr also cares for close relatives of mine. Or if in 10 years I’m in a hospital needing a cardiologist, i dont want him to go over my file with my family! Also I do have friends and family who are dr, nurses, assistants etc. and can probably see my carnet.
3rd- a friend of mine went to test at the chum for sti and came back positive. This was about 10 years ago, His wife’s obgyn who worked at chum had an appointment with the wife, somehow knew about the sti and told the wife. I’m fuzzy about exact details, but my lesson was the less paper trail the better!

I recommend that you call the clinic and ask them the question. Getting tested when you’re sexually active is responsible and important.

There’s always the option to not use a RAMQ card at Prelib but it costs between $150-375

So yes, anything you get done at Prelib using your RAMQ goes on your carnet Sante. Yes, I also understand why you might not want a family doctor seeing it if that doctor also knows about your personal life (if you're married, for instance) and is also the doctor to other family members. Obviously, the doc is human and will notice you getting STD tests while (for instance) married to (possibly) another patient of his (ostensibly your wife).

Yes it stays there forever, basically. Something to consider.

Therefore i suggest you go to a private clinic. I suggest Sante Medic.

It would also be better for you to be abstinent because what would happen if you catch a symptomatic STI? Even the government will know you have gonorrhea.

love going to prelib, the nurse at the one I go to is super sweet and chill and the process is so easy

I use to go to my private doctor where thank god insurance covers it because testing is so expensive

My family doctor would always give me grief whenever I asked for a referral for monthly tests, she should shame me that I was a man hoe that would always use protection
