I am a bit boggled by this one. The government is enforcing social distancing yet grocery stores are reducing their hours and even will close on Sundays. Does that not defeat the purpose of social distancing? You are essentially creating bigger crowds and line ups since they are forcing more ppl to shop at the same time. They justify their reasons to give the employees rest. But what about those in the security and the health care field? They get no break. Why should grocery store workers? With so many ppl out of work grocery stores can find many new employees. Also the public transit agencies reduced service. I do understand the justification but at the same time they are creating more crowds hence it is hard to keep the required 6 ft social distance. Government mismanaging and making the wrong decisions just as Trudeau was more concerned with being politically correct but he was too slow to shut down all international flights and shut down our borders.

Never heard of those delivery service here EB. But pretty much grocery store have online service with delivery now. 2 weeks ago it was back log with but now if you order early in the morning you will get it same day or next day. Only Walmart is behind.

My folks who are near 80 call there grocery store, fruit/vegetable store and butcher and order and pay by phone. Then they pick up when the order is ready later in the day without leaving their car.

Went to Super C this afternoon. There was hardly anyone and nothing was missing.

I think Cloud saw something big out of it. It's only a 1 day off for grocery store staff to relax. No big deal there.

He probably did not try. My parents live close to me in a area not as densely populated as the island of Montreal but my friend who lives in Villeray in Montreal told me he does the same!

I should do the same... I tried with SAQ today and there was a 10 day delay to pick up my booze at the store... I did it anyway. I will run dry for a few days till then!

Booze is the first thing I stocked up on jalimon. It’s gotten to the point that when I’m trying to teach my kid trigonometry and she’s able to solve the problem before me she automatically asks “you were drinking again last night weren’t you?” I need to make another run to the tesco.

So why doesn't Cloud pick up the phone and place an order like your 80 year old parents? Sounds like a reasonable option to me.

Because there is a huge backlog. It is much faster for me to get my groceries the old fashioned way. I just finished today. Was not as bad as I thought it would be. It did take me extra time but luckily I l live in downtown so everything is close by. Also I got some booze from the SAQ there was no line up there but if you try to order online there is a huge backlog and the website states they can no longer guarantee delivery date. So what would you do if you were me? Get things the old fashioned way.

I don't know where you live but this is not true where I am in downtown Montreal. Provigo and Maxi do not offer online home delivery, but ramassage at pick-up points. No time slots available for the next two weeks for online home delivery for the following grocery stores: IGA, Metro and Walmart. Supermarche PA have suspended new account creation for online shopping until further notice due to extremely high volumes of online orders. Maxi doesn't even have online shopping.

Ordering over the phone? Are you kidding? Do you seriously expect zoomers and millenials to order over the phone in 2020? Quebec didn't get with the times and as a result of that delivery services like Instacart, which operates in most other Canadian provinces, are absent here.

I see no significant line-ups at any of them in my area, east of McGill. So sundays closed makes sense in my context. And you can still order from home, anyway.

Name one where you can order online AND that has time slots available for delivery in the next two weeks.

^ IDK, to be fair ... I haven't tried.

My apologies if I've blithely conveyed mistaken, misleading or unhelpful information ....

In truth, all I can pass on for sure is my own experience of encountering no late-afternoon line-ups .... of, say, more than one, maybe two people ... either inside or outside of stores.

Be well!

Stores in US have curtailed hours - reason is so they can restock and sanitize. Lines are generally back to normal and most items are in stock - no real shortages other than TP - several stores have them by the checkout counters and limited to one pack p/person.
