For Fish and Chips if you like authentic, try Britt & Chips, they have 3 locations in Montreal . $11.95 for 2 pieces of cod and fries,

Where is their Cod coming from? I am a bit fussy with my seafood and always want to know where it’s coming from. During a trip to Maine recently, I went to town on raw oysters because all the oysters were fresh from Maine and Newfoundland. If you read about the poor bastard who died from eating a raw oyster in Florida, he likely ate a raw oyster from the Florida pandhandle which is a warm water oyster much more likely to have bacteria that can cause problems. That’s why I have a Maine rule - no raw seafood from any point south of Maine.

Cod can come from many different places and if I went to Brit and Chips I would ask, but I didn’t and you did hence the question.

Lets make it a group encounter!

There was a time back in 2005 or 2006 when a bunch of MERB posters met at a Greek restaurant in the Prince Arthur and St. Laurent area - it was just a dinner and just guys, about 10 of us. I don’t even remember everyone who was there but the ones I do remember were Techman, Smack Appeal, and General Gonad, none of whom are any longer posting - at least not under those handles. Cloudsurf and Special K might have been there as well. I recall General Gonad spilling some red wine, I think on himself. Other than the GG wine spillage, I have virtually no memory of the event.

Look behind you.
If anyone is going to Vancouver Joe Forte is superb for seafood, first time I tried swordfish... wow. Prices are reasonable and the piano player was very entertaining.
For desert go the the New Amsterdam Cafe, you can smoke your weed or hash in there and the milkshakes, brownies and pastries are great, music selection was good also.

That particular dinner, sponsored by Celine's Fantasies, was at La Medusa on Drummond. I shared a table that night with Michelle Luv, Sapman and another girl who worked with Michelle. My friend, Madmax (RIP) was at the next table. I'm quite sure Jessy was there and I know that Karma was as well.

I don't know about the dinner you're talking about, but this was the night General Gonad bathed himself in the grape.

GG spilled wine at another earlier MERB poster guy event which preceded the one you are talking about. In the first one, the spillage was on himself. The second one I also remember because I was at the Le Medusa party as well. You are talking about the second spill incident. Separate party. He had a physical issue and I am not sure if it caused those wine spills or not. I was actually present at both parties and remember both spills. He was embarrassed by both events. I did not witness the actual spills but only the immediate aftermath, both times. I think the first party happened in 2005 and the second in 2006.

Just so GG does not feel singled out, I also saw Robertpal spill a drink on a Girls On Fire girl at one of the parties. It was Robertpal's own screwdriver and I did witness that one. It was just a regular old spill due to being a goofball. The girl was not happy about it.

Finally I myself tripped over a coffee table and nearly spilled a bottle of beer at the GG2 party. I somehow fell to the floor headlong but maneuvered the beer in my hand so it did not spill on carpet. Everyone laughed but nobody could believe the beer was not spilled. I was kind of lucky because I fell in such a way that I could control the beer bottle while falling. Was as clutch a save as any made by Carey Price this year.

I found Queue de Cheval pretty good. Decor is nice. My steadk was better than Moishe and Keg. Never been to Gibby's but will put that on my TDL.

Just went to Gibby’s. QDC definiitely better steak and more selection of steak. Granted it is more expensive.

Went to Joe Beef last visit. It’s good but not out of this world good to justify the advance reservations. Good thing I just walked in around 2130 and was seated at the bar with no wait.

Also went back to a favorite of mine; Holder. Not a steakhouse but pretty consistent good food there.

QdC for me hands down for steaks {Moishes horrible and Gibby's inconsistent)...I was at QdC this past weekend for a special occasion and we were treated like kings. Expensive but the food and service was out of this world!

Lobster dumplings, scallops, salmon tartar...rack of lamb, bone-in rib steak (Lou's cut, Kansas cut, Delmonico cut), "baseball cut" filet mignon, rock lobster...side orders of asparagus, sautéed baby kale, creamy spinach, grilled oyster mushrooms...all cooked to perfection!

Best in groups where you can create an ambiance with the staff.

I love QdC, its my most favorite place in Montreal. I don't think I have had anything on their menu that I did not like. My favorite side dish (though not always available) is Lobster-Mash potatoes.

I did have the Wagyu A5 sirloin at QDC a couple of months back. Never had Wagyu before. Came out to same price as an hour session with an agency girl but was well worth the experience. THAT was out of this world.

Just came back from Sammi soup dumpling this evening. Not bad but they took a looong time to prepare the dumplings despite half the restaurant being empty around 9:15. Also saw a ramen place down the block. Will have to check it out in the next day or two.

I wonder what that bill came to Sharkman? Hope you did not pick up the tab and it was expensed, LOL.

Usually it's fine to pay ridiculous price when the plate is dead perfect. At least I do not mind.

For steaks right now I only trust my own backyard bbq. The piece of meat will cost around 20-25$. Add the wine at maybe 20$ a bottle. Vegetables maybe 2-3$ Maybe I can buy some oysters for appetizer, 8 at 2$ a piece.. Let's say if at home a perfect aged steak meal will cost me around 50-60$ bucks it's then quite normal that it is around 150$ minimum at a well know steak restaurant.

Cheers,

Jalimon,

Last week I dined at a very high end steakhouse in Connecticut with an insurance company representative and the tab came around $170 for the two of us. It was expensed. My question was one of concern for Sharkman’s wallet although it sounds like he either split the tab or expensed.

I am the last person to complain about prices for great food at high end restaurants. I prefer Gibby’s when in Montreal because I have eaten there at least 12-15 times and never had a bad meal, they give huge portions appropriate for the prices charged, and their house salad is the bomb (best vinaigrette dressing I have ever tasted). For you and Sharkman, salad is probably a mere formality that can be dispensed with after a mouthful or two so that the steak can be brought on. I, on the other hand, pay attention to details like getting the salad dressing right and using an appropriate amount so the lettuce isn’t drowned. It’s these little details and getting it all right that enables me to choose who I repeat with.

EB when I go to a great Steak restaurant I usually only have a salad with a beer. Then the nicest cut of steak with nothing else. A glass of red wine as my vegetables ;)

So yes the salad is very important for me. And I do agree that Gibby's makes absolute nice one. I hardly never go anymore because I live too far. I only do when I travel. On the north shore of montreal you buy your own steak and cook them in your backyard bbq. No north shore restaurant are worth it.

On the rare occasion I need to bring a client to a restaurant I bring them to Club Chasse et Peche in the old port.

Cheers,

Fantastique comme menu et table au club chasse et peche, jalimon. J’y vais au moins deux fois par an. L’ambiance est parfois un trop snob à mon goût. Service toujours impeccable. Les clients devraient être épatés
