Lester's also has a restaurant at the airport but it's only accessible from the American side. And looking at the airport's map i was surprised to see Hurley's also has a pub there. Also only accessible from the American side.

p.s. I would also like to point out that Reuben's purchases their meat from Lester's.

"Le Roi" is on St-Hubert just up from St-Zotique.

I am very surprised that there has been no discussion of the cut of smoked meat and whether the places you guys are extolling offer all 5 cuts. If they do not offer all 5, then why should we do business with them? The consumer should have a choice of:

Lean: the lean and less flavourful end. Relatively healthful but dry. The "healthy diet" choice, and the choice of MERBites paying regular visits to a cardiologist for other issues.
Medium and medium fat: the most popular cuts from the middle of the brisket. Occasionally, a sliced mix of lean and fat meats.
Old-fashioned: a cut between medium and fatty and often cut a bit thicker. I like old fashioned sliced thin.
Fat: from the fat end of the brisket
Speck: consists solely of the spiced subcutaneous fat from the whole brisket without meat.

There is no guidance in this discussion as to which restaurant is serving what cut, or how each place slices each cut. Hopefully in future posts you can comment on these criteria because the serious smoked meat eater is kind of left holding his "meat dick", not knowing where to stick it. Thanks.

I will start by saying Snowdon's Deli offers all 5 cuts, or at least 4, not sure about Speck.

EB, if you like "old-fashioned" smoked meat go to Lester's on Bernard and ask Billy to slice it thin for you! You won't regret it!

There was a thread dedicated solely to smoked meat where in one post I described all the different cuts as well, but the Mods did a good job of erasing it along with my old profile!

In any event, no need to be so technical...it's only smoked meat...and whether it's after or before a sports event or other casual event you're just there to have fun!

However, I always bring a heart catheter and a cholesterol test kit just in case! :lol:

At Jarry smoked meat you can order any cut you like... Even speck is on the menu.


Love this place! Ate their shrimps a few days ago and loved them. I went quite a few times for their london steak with pepper sauce because it's really good for the price. This place is my go-to for late dinner when every other place is closed haha!!

I was Jarry Smoked Meat a few months go and some bikers rolled up at 1.30 AM, the place cleared out pretty fast.

opinions on uniburger upstart chain? i tried it once, too well done. did a double patty, kinda small relative to the bun and dry.

It is called Queue de cheval. As said, quite expensive but I liked it. I did it once a few years ago -no urge to reat but I had enjoyed my night...

I personally am not a huge fan of the Keg. For steak, I favor Gibby’s. Their food is better than the Keg, although also somewhat pricier. Gibby’s House Salad served with the entrees has the best house vinaigrette dressing I have ever tasted. It take an otherwise ordinary salad to another level.

Another nice touch at Gibby’s is complimentary Montreal pickles. You do not get complimentary house pickles at The Keg. Bring on those pickles! Yeaahh!

The Keg food is OK but it’s a place where non foodies go to drink and not really care about the food so much.

But I think she meant steak the Cheval - Horse steak. Not the restaurant. I like steak de cheval. Bavette is my favorite part and I use to cook it a few times for chez Laliberté. less fat than beef and pretty much more ethic buisness than beef.
