the guy is 10 yrs younger than me and looks like someone in his 70S
drugs takes it toll

Another life blown in the name of all those who are ignorant enough to think a lifestyle with "recreational drugs" is anything but a contract with self-destruction. Now the kids and the rest of the family have to live with it.

It is refreshing to see a tribute to an entertainer that celebrates their life’s work without the disparaging comments
There have been several tributes that have degenerated into an assault on the deceased
Hopefully members can use the same judgment and celebrate one's life work whether they were an actor, a singer, a musician or an athlete
Unfortunately, there will be others
Drug addiction is a disease that robs one of the ability to self control

Merlot, buddy......heroine is far from being a 'recreational' drug.

Pot is a recreational drug. I've used it since i was in high school. I've even used it for medical therapy. It relaxes me & gets me in a good mood. I'd recommend it for everyone who loves life and loves a peaceful existence. I'd actually encourage late teens and adults to abandon the evils of alcohol in favor of marijuana or hashish. They'll live a longer, healthier & more peaceful life. It's also great for lovemaking. ;)

Ey y'old tuuth-pulla,

We agree. I was using the term as a euphemism, hence the quotes. However, some would call heroine that, just as they would other dangerous drugs. I'm on your side. It's too bad this gentleman didn't seem to share our view. But the whole path is very dangerous because lack self-control is always just one step away.

BTW...I had tried pot many times over an early but brief span of time. IT SUCKED!

Cheers,

Merlot

It's refreshing to hear this Doc..I totally agree

Never see a smoker kill someone in a car, or start a bar fight

I have never taken heroin but after abdominal surgery some years ago, I was hooked up to a morphine drip for pain. I am not sure how close the effects of morphine are to the effects of heroin, but morphine injected into my arms through the IV drip I had was really good at helping the pain. The relief was instantaneous. The main thing I recall about it was that it made me sleepy and lethargic. After surgery they get you out of bed and try to walk you around, but I really did not want to get out of bed. I told the nurses to leave me alone. I just wanted to sleep, sleep and sleep some more.

I read that when you OD on heroin what kills you is your brain does not signal the body to breathe and you die in your sleep from oxygen deprivation. I had always thought your body sends you in panic mode to breathe but heroin OD shuts down the part of your brain that tells you to breathe.

I was watching one of my favorite tv shows last night....Real Time with Bill Maher....and during the discussion about pot legalization & PSH's passing, i learned that the main gateway drugs for heroin use are prescribed medication. It makes a lot of sense & i don't know why i had never realized this in the past. I also learned that the popular ADHD medicaton 'Adderall' is actually cocaine. It's currently being prescribed to many ADHD sufferers across the planet, many of them kids. Oxycontin & vicodin (both opioids) are also very potent & addictive drugs/narcotics which may eventually lead to heroin use if its usage goes out of control. I know many people who use those medications.

I felt the same way about blow until the day i was administered it in a medical setting for oral surgery. I finally discovered what the fuss was all about....but already having been sedated might have added to the effects.

When i first started smoking pot, i didn't like it since it used to put me to sleep. Of course, i was smoking it when i was partying, so it wasn't exactly the proper 'recreactional' drug for this at the time.

Personally, i rarely use recreational drugs anymore. I live a much healthier lifestyle than i did up to 5 years ago. However, if people around me want to toke up or snort once in a while in a social setting, it's none of my business & it's their choice. I actually believe that many prescribed medications are much more harmful. Same thing with alcohol or cigarettes. Probably the most harmful drugs on the planet, yet they're legal. Caffeine is another thing. I know people that have over 10 coffees a day. Then they complain they have trouble sleeping. But i don't have a problem with someone having 1-2 cups of coffee a day and i was told that there are actually health benefits with caffeine. Same thing with wine. A glass of wine (or two) a day has health benefits. It's good for the heart. But a bottle of wine a day doesn't do anyone any good.

I've heard this story too. I work with a few people who have kids that became heroin addicts. One of their kids O.D. last year and is no longer of this earth. supposedly, youth or recreational drug users will start out with Oxy. It is a more palatable choice and it doesn't carry the stigma of heroin. After awhile, when they need a fix and Oxy is too scarce or too expensive (or both) they will be willing to try heroin.

Marijuana should definitely be legalized. I am of the opinion that all drugs should be legalized but marijuana should absolutely be legalized. Pot is no more a gateway to heroin than beer or wine. Sure people with addictive personalities that eventually became heroin addicts probably cycled through pot. But they probably also drank beer and wine and probably ate too much pizza or gambled too much...maybe even a few saw a few too many escorts.

Hoffman Will/Trust Agreement Requires Son Be Raised In New York City

In the 2004 document, Hoffman requested his now-10-year-old son Cooper — the full principal in a trust fund he’ll inherit when he turns 30 — ‘be raised in or near the borough of Manhattan,’ or in Chicago or San Francisco, ‘so that (he) will be exposed to the culture , art and architecture that such cities offer.’

“It is my strong desire ... that my son Cooper Hoffman, be raised and reside in or near the borough of Manhattan,” Hoffman wrote in his will, which was unveiled Wednesday.
