Another nail in the coffin of a once vibrant Montreal thoroughfare. There have been so many longstanding businesses that have gone belly up on the Main. This resto was a great place to have a steak at a reasonable price and in particular, a late-night haunt when the local watering holes closed down.

Thank God, the Hungarian Deli is still open across the street.

Moishe is down the street. I hear Celine is a server there.
Actually, it is not.

It moved last year as well to a place near Place Jean-Paul-Riopelle close to Palais des Congres, in a former restaurant named Houston. This after being on the street for almost 100 years.

St.laurent hasnt beem the same since 2009 when they closed down the street for a year the first time to redo the water pipe infrastructure.

South of prince arthur is dead with empty shops. Prince arthur is a wasteland.

Prince arthur use to be magical in the summers, packed with hundreds dinning on the terraces.

This is a bit of a weird take. I live around the corner, the street is generally packed in the summer.
I guess you didnt see what it was like 20 years ago.

Half the restuarants/storefronts on prince arthur (between st.laurent and the square) are closed or boarded up. Its a wasteland compared to the vibrant dining scene from the 2000's.

Grand Prix and sidewalk sale weekend was a spectacle. Still good, but not what it was.....

....Though being a young kid in the 2000s, i repeatedly heard that "st.laurent was nothing like it was in the 60's, 70s 80s" lol

Very well said and your recollection and timeline are in my opinion correct.

I can remember the Main from the 80s. There were Hoffman's, Simcha's and Warshaws as well as the newspaper kiosk at the corner of Pine and St. Laurent that come to mind. There were loads of family-run clothing stores, mainly Jewish, that went belly up when we started outsourcing our manufacturing overseas. Great nightlife as well.
