I’m speculating that he was a very hard target therefore forcing he’s enemies to resort to these tactics.

It seems like there is Bad Blood once again. I enjoyed that show on Netflix and now material is being compiled for a possible season 3. Season 1 ended with Rizzuto’s death in 2013. I forget exactly when season 2 ended.

Is there any evidence that anyone other than Scioppa was harmed? If it was a clean hit and there wasn’t any collateral damage it’s not something the cops should overreact to. This could be a settling of accounts. Although it sucks that his kid had to watch his father get shot, the same thing just happened in Staten Island when NYC mob boss Frank Cali was shot after being interrupted while having dinner with his family. He was shot 10 times and run over while his family watched/heard. Was also on surveillance cams in the house. The difference there is the cops caught the suspect based on the video and since they know he is a dead man walking in jail, they are not worrying too much about it. NYCPD has other stuff to worry about.

Bad blood is VERY loosely based on real life. The character of Declan does not exist in real life. Have not seen season 2 but i wouldn't be surprised its pure fiction.

Times are changing, surveillance by electronics is getting better, the pie is getting smaller for the criminals. Even laundering money is harder to do. I think in this difficult environment for the criminals to exist in, people are encroaching on other peoples territory. I am sure that people that get bumped have received warnings and did not obey.

About a week or so ago there was a shooting outside a World jym in the south shore that was linked to organized crime. There was another shooting death that happened not too far away at an Italian restaurant at DIX30 during the summer . So there’s always some criminal factions warring between themselves .

For years the Mafia and hells Angels shared the spoils of the corrupt Quebec construction industry at everyone’s expense .
And it seems that the war for control of the Montreal Mafia is not over judging by the Scoppa murders . If I remember correctly one of the brothers was gunned down in a Laval hotel in broad daylight while he was attending a baptism or something . Anyways it was probably revenge, payback for something they had done . Bottom line is that mobsters have long memories.

For those who are interested, there is a new podcast "The Dark North" the gangs of Montreal, talking about and interviewing policemen who were involved in the Mafia/Hells Angels investigations.
For me I found it interesting as a Montrealer.

There is a power struggle for

There have been quite a few murders in Montreal and Toronto, the cops seem to be just sitting back and letting the factions rub each other out.

Most of the time there is power struggles. Unless there is a powerfull and charismatic leader who can find a way to make everyone happy.

That’s a great answer , observation HM .... it makes a lot of sense . The undisputed leaders are always the ones that are both feared and (loved ) admired

Yup. As much as these peoples are responsible for "bad stuff" (to put it loosely) its often better for the general population than the alternative wich is open warfare.

As much as the mafia and/or bikers/streetgang kill each other, there will always be new ones to try to take the power. Wich will continue the cycle. I rather have a strong head who can control it than a bunch of loose cannons fighting for it.

Agree HM , Criminals at this level are the ruthless kind so I couldn’t care less if they rubbed each other out . But when you have a constant , prolonged war for control then chances increase that you will have innocent bystanders get injured or worse .

Much safer for everyone if there is an established hierarchy that is not constantly being opposed. This way the Mafiosi will settle there differences in a more civilized manner ;)

I also remember that infighting is not good for business having watched the Godfather more times than I can remember lol

This was pretty good! Thanks for the recommendation.
I tore through episodes 1-5 on my last workout. Who would thought I'd get such intellectual stimulation on a sex board?
It's left me with so many questions. But I'll hold them until I finish the series.

Given how powerful organized crime seems to be in Montreal, and that this is a board about P4P -- how much do you think organized crime has a hand in the P4P industry, and which players?

The P4P world in Montreal (at least at the agencies like Euphoria, XO, Vogue) always seemed to me to be pretty innocent, like a family business -- no pre-screens, the girls like their bookers, speaking from the girls I don't get a sense of any ugliness going on (unlike some MPs I've been to)

At one point in the podcast they do talk about girls being sent to Toronto and the U.S., seeing 15 clients a day and making $15,000 a week.

Who are these girls? Which organized crime groups are behind it? The mafia didn't come up a lot as a culprit, but there was some talk about the biker gangs (who I know also have a hand in girls in Europe) and especially the street gangs (maybe because they're so young.)

Anyone have any insight?

It’s a controlled game, the agencies are protected and there’s occasional infighting. There was a “heated competition” between a couple of agencies in 2016 iirc which ended with one closing. I wouldn’t say that they’re “friendly family businesses” lol. As for the big numbers in Toronto, the heyday of QC girls heading over there to make big $ has died down considerably over the past few years.

Organized crime like to keep a low profile. Any involvement in the hobby is done by the lower end of the mafia food chain. The bikers control some of the higher end escort and massage business as well as the SC business. Thinks have not gone well in these businesses in that last few years. Especially in the last nine months

Members of organized crime be they high, medium or low need places to launder their money. Many of the mid and lower end members have franchise operations like Subway or Tim Horton's franchises to launder some of their ill gotten gains and make themselves look legitimate.

Gone are the days where lower end thugs would extort tolls from SWs to walk a certain stretch of sidewalk and have some of that money get kicked up to the higher ups. These days organized from at the top just sit back and carve up territory for the underlings to work in without stepping on others toes. The last scam done by the higher end people in organized crime was carving up the construction business pie. As far as the drug business goes, the bikers and their thugs run things at the bottom.

Things were different in the 60s and 70s. The mob was much more lower end. They extorted protection money from merchants. I even heard they required the merchants to take window washing and window insurance from them. One guy I knew in school told me how his father with a grocery store had to take goods from certain suppliers that were delivered whether they liked it or not. They ended up having to sell the goods at cost or less to get rid of it before the next shipment. Pizza restaurants had to take their cheese and sausage from specific companies in Montreal pre-80s.

I recently read an business article about the president of a international milk and cheese company based here in Montreal. His salary was reported to be $1.5 Million, This was an amazingly small amount for a president of a $14.5 billion dollar company. Google ( cheese company - president - salary ) It was suggested that he was merely a figurehead and the real decisions were made by others.

what is dumb about this argument is that if you own a company there is no point paying yourself a big salary. You are transferring money from yourself to yourself, why share with the taxman? That behavior is just reasonable, not mafia activity.

The allegations that saputo had mafia ties are anecdotally compelling but so is the defense. Not much came out since and saputo behaves in every way like a normal, respectable company so not sure we will ever know.

No need to be coy. The allegations of a Mafia connection between Saputo and the Mafia is a story that has been covered by the CBC:

Saputo is just a tool for the Mafia to launder money. Yje insiders in the company can manipulate profits and losses. They can tell you when to buy and when to sell. The government can not prove that anyone has been given information.

The war for the control of the Montreal Mafia continues. A month ago, someone tried to kill Leonardo Rizzuto, the son of former Montreal Mob boss Vito Rizzuto and grandson of Nic Rizzuto.

...The patriarch of the family, Nicolo Rizzuto, was shot dead in his Montreal home in 2010.

His son Vito, the mafia godfather, died of cancer a few years later, in December 2013, after a 10-year prison stay in the U.S.

Vito’s son and Leonardo Rizzuto’s brother, Nicolo Rizzuto Jr, was killed in 2009...

Leonardo has had a somewhat lower profile than his father and grandfather did, but his rivals seem to think that he still has power in Montreal.

They already figured out who the attempt was
Done by.
