What exactly are they achieving with this.
This 21 year old while deserving to be held accountable is but a pawn he probably had no idea what he was fighting for or why he was there, more than likely scared out of his mind.
The real murderer is Putin and his cohorts, generals, prosecuting a 21 year old soldier does nothing, these soldiers mean absolutely nothing to Putin they are dispensable, this will not be a deterrent to other soldiers either they are being brain washed and ordered to do this.
Total waste of time and money but great for CNN.
I understand your argument.

It's Putin who is really responsible, and it's also true that Putin doesn't give a damn, he will do absolutely nothing for all his soldiers.

A 21-year-old soldier kills a 62-year-old civilian, and we should forgive him for everything?

The war = Russian soldiers against Ukrainian soldiers, not civilians.

Now if they were to capture one of Putins generals and put him on trial that would be entirely different.

Frolov is one of a total of 12 Russian generals to be killed in Ukraine in just over two months of fighting, according to a report Thursday by The New York Times.

That is twice the number of generals killed in the Soviet Union’s 10-year military campaign in Afghanistan.

What did I say that he deserves to be held accountable, I doubt that means to forgive him.
Holding court hearings on a 21 year old soldier, as publicity for the world to see who probably actually thinks he is killing nazis and at the same time scared out of his mind of being killed himself serves no purpose.
Why waste time on stupidity like this, soldiers do as they are commanded to do it is Putin, his generals, the ones that started this war that need to be held accountable and brought before a war crimes tribunal not 21 year old witless uneducated soldiers who should still be in school or playing soccer with their friends, you think these soldiers want to be in Ukraine dying for a lunatic like Putin.

Because Russian soldiers have been brainwashed, they have a license to kill, not soldiers, civilians.

Where are you getting this from.
I know English is not your first language it is not mine either but read what is written, “should be held accountable“ does not mean a license to kill.
Unfortunately throughout history you can look at any war and you will find these same barbaric things taking place, yes the individual soldier is to blame also, but not nearly as much as the lunatics like Putin who orchestrate these wars.
Most of these soldiers would rather be at home with their girl friends and friends not being scared out of their minds in a foreign land not knowing who is a soldier who is a civilian and who is going to shoot or kill them also. How many US soldiers have been killed and blown up by innocent looking teenagers in the Middle East, when you are scared out of your mind you do strange things.
You honestly think some Russian soldiers have not been killed or shot by civilians, farmers etc… and I am not blaming these civilians they are fighting for their lives and their families lives I would do the same.
Try putting yourself in the shoes of a 21 year old kid scared out of his mind in a foreign country, no I am not defending killing of innocent civilians at all just not so quick to be so judgemental without trying to put myself in their shoes.
Putting Putin and his generals in front of a firing squad or jail for eternity would suit me just fine, putting a 21 year old soldier on public display in front of the whole world is stupid and the wrong way to seek publicity. Go after the real murderers.
War and revolutions get very ugly a civilian can also kill you not just a soldier luckily you have never witnessed this, I have.

Try putting yourself in the shoes of a 62 year old civilian, without weapon.
You just never get what is written and what people are trying to tell you.
I wonder why I bother trying to explain things to you.
My mother and father were those civilians you are talking about and so was I as an infant so I think I know what I am talking about. Do a bit of reading on the Hungarian revolution of 1956.
I have a reason to hate Russia as much as Ukrainians do but I can still think objectively and put the blame where it really belongs.

If they do, it will end over 200 years of Swedish non-alignment. Finland adopted neutrality following a bitter defeat by the Soviet Union during World War Two.

HELSINKI -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday that his country is “not favorable” toward Finland and Sweden joining NATO, indicating Turkey could use its membership in the Western military alliance to veto moves to admit the two countries.

Along with the M777 howitzers, long-range M549A1 shells also arrived in Ukraine.

The United States provided Ukraine with several tens of thousands of M549A1 long-range active-rocket projectiles with a flight range of up to 30 kilometers.
This greatly expands the Ukrainian military's strike capabilities, increasing the area covered by the destruction of targets by almost 17 square kilometers, compared with the use of standard ammunition.

Initially, it was assumed that standard ammunition capable of striking at ranges up to 24.7 kilometers would be sent to Ukraine, however, later on one of the photographs M549A1 active rockets with a flight range of up to 30 kilometers were seen, and the source said that, on a par with Thousands of long-range shells also arrived in Ukraine with conventional ammunition.

According to official data, in total, the United States delivered to Ukraine 90 light towed 155-mm howitzers.

Finnish President Sauli Niinistö told Russia's Vladimir Putin that Finland would seek NATO membership.

President Niinistö initiated the call with President Putin, which took place on Saturday.

Russia has previously warned against Finland joining NATO, threatening "retaliatory steps".

Finnish President Sauli Niinistö initiated a phone call with Russia's Vladimir Putin on Saturday, telling the Russian president that Finland will be seeking membership to join NATO.

Russia has previously warned against Finland joining NATO, threatening "retaliatory steps" against the country and claiming Finland's membership in NATO would be a national security threat.

"The conversation was direct and straight-forward and it was conducted without aggravations.
Avoiding tensions was considered important," Niinistö said in the release.

According to the press release, Niinistö reminded Putin that "every independent nation maximizes its security."

The release continued: "This is what is happening now, too. By joining NATO Finland strengthens its own security and assumes its responsibility.
It is not away from anyone else."

In his call with Putin, the Finnish president also "repeated his deep concern over the human suffering caused by the war Russia wages in Ukraine," according to the press release.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine has raised public support for NATO membership to an all-time high in Finland and in neighboring Sweden.

Russia Cuts Electricity To Finland:

Retaliatory steps: after their phone call.

Russia said it would cut off electricity to Finland starting Saturday as it claims the country has not paid, a state-owned power company said.

RAO Nordic, a subsidiary of Inter ROA, said it will stop exporting electricity to Finland without providing specifics amid larger tensions across Europe beset by the Russia-Ukraine War, Reuters reported.

CNN's Sara Sidner reports on how Ukraine is using facial recognition technology to identify Russian soldiers killed in battle.

Since the Russian's claim very few causalities in this Special Operation, without this sort of notification, the families might never know what happened.
At least they can (at some point) claim the body and take it home.

Do the Russians do the same for Ukrainian soldiers? NOPE

CNN senior international correspondent Frederik Pleitgen embeds with a medical team for US and NATO Special Operations Forces as they practice medevac drills.

Retired Corpsman here. Not enough credit is given to the service men and women who are brave enough to risk their life while saving lives, especially during war time.
They are true humanitarians and I’m appreciative that this story was covered.

If you talk to anyone in Western diplomatic circles — especially in the security, intelligence and defence sectors — what is about to unfold over the next few weeks in Scandinavia counts among Russia's worst nightmares.

The inclusion of Finland and possibly Sweden in NATO, politically and militarily the source of all that is evil to Moscow, will stretch the alliance firmly from the Arctic Ocean all the way to the Black Sea, pressed right up against the border.

It is the kind of scenario that Russian President Vladimir Putin wanted to avoid.

Ukrainian Military Intelligence Chief Russia said it would be defeated by the end of the year.

Ukrainian Military Intelligence Chief Kyrylo Budanov said Russia could be defeated "before the end of the year".

Saying that August will be a "turning point" in the war, Budanov argued that Kiev will be able to regain all its territory.

Speaking to British channel Sky News, Budanov noted that "victory will come even if it is difficult".

"In the second half of August, it will be a turning point and most military operations will be completed by the end of the year," Budanov said.

The military intelligence chief argued that Kiev knew "everything", including Russian military plans, and that Moscow had given "heavy casualties as soldiers and weapons".

After Russia failed in Kiev, it focused on targets east and south of Ukraine. There was a lot of clashes in the Donbass area last week.

The Ukrainian General Staff reported that the Russian army in the Donetsk and Tavriya region "used mortar, artillery, bombers to inflict maximum damage to the Ukrainian army.

"At the end of the war, we will rebuild the Ukrainian power in all areas we have lost, including Donbass and Crimea," Budanov said.
