I feel that if it is someone well reviewed like you, then the risk is acceptable to leave a deposit. However in my case, there were no Merb reviews for this person, therefore seems too risky.

But "Deposits are a deterrent to all clients" is not an opinion. It's a fact and a wrong one at that. Deposits are a deterrent to you. And to many other people. But definitely not to all. I regularly get introduction messages where they offer to send a deposit before I even say anything. I also have clients who specifically expressed a deposit or full payment via etransfer being their preference for various reasons (don't want to cross the border with a ton of cash, don't want to carry all this cash even if not crossing a border since it's illegal to carry over 2k, want to avoid a trip to the bank because they're disabled are some examples).
Several businesses have deposits and/or cancelation fees, this isn't just an escort thing.
Also, clients might not have our names, but they have our reviews. If anyone is stupid enough to send a deposit to someone who doesn't have a review history and an online presence, they honestly are to blame for whatever happens with said deposit. In the same vein, I would happily send a deposit to a well known spa for a reservation (recently went to Balnea and paid the whole thing in advance), but I wouldn't send a deposit to some random Facebook marketplace person selling access to their home spa nobody knows about.

You can't "disagree" about facts. Deposits are a deterrent to many clients, no one is disputing that. But to claim that they're a deterrent to every client is just not true

I recently had an issue with my heating having a heating duct in my ceiling and called a heating repair service.
They wanted $350 which would cover the inspection and one hour of work and take a look at it plus $50 for transportation with no guarantee they would be able to fix it.
I laughed !!!
Luckily shutting off and turning back the switch a few times and doing the same with the breaker fixed the issue.
Don’t know how this company stays in business but it is not my worry, nobody was forcing me to use them.

My two cents on deposits. Make them reasonable; I once tried to make a somewhat larger deposit which the bank flagged and froze my account. I literally got the 3rd degree arguing with them; they even wanted to know what it was for, asked me to my face. None of their business what I do with my money. Next, e-transfer, please, please, please, make that to some sensible vanilla everyday email account with straightforward security question/passwords. And I've never had an issues with deposits from the dommes I've scheduled with, only the bank.
I understand why deposits turn off clients and I've never asked any for GFE even if a lot of cancellations occurred..
I never felt it was necessary until I started offering domme sessions, because SO MANY clients actually flake or no show, a lot more than GFE clients
It depends how large the deposit is, but it makes sense to ask for larger ones than normal because of that.. Yet personally I don't feel comfortable asking more than 20-25% for a deposit.
(I still only ask for deposits to new clients who contact me under my domme persona, as Luna I decided I'll never ask for a deposit)
It depends. Most providers I see are on tryst or Indy companion. 90% of them ask for a 20-30% deposit. Both are reputable platforms and I never ran into an issue with deposit scams.

Indy companion isn't just an advertising platform just to clarify, it's a collective of escorts who are reputable and have been verified by a committee. A lot of clients seem confused about this. I'm not part of the committee myself but there are strict rules in place to make sure ethics are respected, and there is a process you have to go through in order to be accepted and trusted by the other members. (and therefore by clients)
On tryst, you have to verify with ID, contrarily to platforms like leolist or escorte intime. And they are strict, it can take a while in order to be verified.

I forgot to mention that on tryst, photos are also verified to match your ID and biometrics. So you can't post pictures of somebody else. It takes quite a while to be verified too, and for a lot of escorts it took more than one try. They are very strict. The only issue is that some women on tryst use the platform to advertise their onlyfans account, and these profiles don't get removed.. but you'll find out immediately who is a legit provider or an OF girl.
Leolist is different. You can be verified, but all they ask for are photos of you holding a sign.. That system can be bypassed easily, as the platform doesn't have your biometric data.
