OK, this is admittedly a weird place to ask this, but at what age did you find out that there is no Santa Claus? How did you find out? Is it better to tell kids (and if so then when?) or better to let them just find out on their own?

I found out there was no Santa Claus when I saw my Dad dressing up as him. I must have been around 7 or 8 years old.

I would imagine with digital technology and access to the internet, something I did not have, that children will find out much earlier nowadays.

Why only kids? I still believe in Santa. I just don’t believe in getting presents for free anymore :D

Where I am from he comes on December 6 ( Saint Nick day) and he has nothing to do with Christmas.
Children shine their shoes and boots and put them outside and if they were good they get presents. small things like candy chocolates and if they were bad a piece of coal or a twig.

It is baby Jesus who brings the Christmas tree and rewards children who were good not Santa at Christmas time.
Christmas is a religious holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus.

Unfortunately it is slowly starting to change and Santa is starting to show up in malls and places during the Christmas Holidays.
It seems nobody misses a chance to make a buck.

Even Halloween has caught on which was unheard of before.

Yeah, not sure at what point it becomes silly and patronizing and there doesn't really seem to be a period of transition or a specific point/age to say so. They either don't know or they do. Does it become instantly insulting to pretend there's a Santa Claus as soon as they know? Seems like a silly problem, I know. It's important to me personally neither to shit on a child's dreams and childhood, nor to be overtly idiotic about preserving a fiction because of the relationship that we have.

Slowly starting? Been like that since as long as i can remember. Apparently the "real Jesus" (wich was not even his true name) was not born on December 25 at all. Personally i am an atheist so the whole religion think fly 10 feet over my head. I do think there was a "Jesus" tough but he was not some mystical being. Just a regular guy who may had been able to do things peoples of his time didn't understand. Remember that only a few years ago humans didn't even understand mental health issues and saw them as "demonic possessions" or witchcraft.

As for Santa ... i don't remember but i must had been very young because i do do recall at 8-9 years old i was fully aware gifts were coming from the familly. The thing is in my familly the gifts would be under the three for a while before Christmas. My mother would generally let me open a smaller one on the 24th and on the 25th i would get the bigger one. We also had a proper familly gathering at my grand-parents place (wich was not always on the 24 or 25 because of familly availabilities) and there i would get many more gifts from said grand parents and also uncles/aunts. I would also see these familly members arrive with the gifts in hands so basically the concept of Santa Claus never really set with me. I guess as a 2-3 years old i probably was like any kid but i don't remember "believing in Santa Claus" ever, so i was VERY young when i "knew".

I don’t think you understood.
Where I am from there was no Santa there was Saint Nick ( or more precisely Mikulas) who came on December 6.
Everything related to Christmas was the celebration of the birth of Jesus and it was baby Jesus who brought the tree and presents on Christmas Eve.

Now even in European countries where Santa didn’t exist he is now taking over as the power of $$$ has evolved.

Actually I prefer the North American version with Santa as I don’t care too much for religion either.
