Thanks. Very helpful. Three more questions to the group.

To confirm - if I drive, there’s no possibility of a random test at pt of entry? Must tests be taken over video if selected?

I only got one shot - the J&J vaccine (only one shot vs Pfizer’s two). Will that be acceptable to enter Canada?

Lastly, can I submit my info on ArriveCan the day I decide to travel? Not sure if Canada requires advance notice.

At this point, I’m strongly considering an appointment with an agency offering EE women in Boston + a game at Fenway - especially if there is a risk of being hassled and getting to do just one Euphoria appt. I miss Montreal but the fact that we need to ask these questions 2 1/2 years later is just mind boggling.
It was reported here earlier last year (when border was initially reopened) on-the-spot testing was performed at land border. I believe that stopped. I crossed by land and air several since reopening. First two times were given test kits and didn't get picked two months ago. If on-the-spot testing still exist, I think it would be at the airport (easier to hold up large numbers of air passengers vs. running out of parking spot for cars at PoE).

1 shot J&J is considered fully vaccinated - Look under Accepted vaccines.

You can submit ArriveCan as you pull up to the PoE but I recommend you do so earlier as filling in ArriveCAN while operating a vehicle is not recommended. :)

An aside fwiw - someone on a local board here mentioned he never filled out the ArriveCan info and the agent let him through, saying to make sure to complete it next time. Best to do it of course.
That is asking for a fine (after a one-time waiver) if you are Canadian (but will be admitted into the country). However as a foreigner, expect to be denied entry and U-turned to US PoE no exceptions as you have not substantiated you meet the fully vaccinated entry requirement (see same link above concerning Accepted vaccines).

You’re probably correct. I thought the results might be revealed immediately after taking test and formalized with an email. Your plan of action for a positive result is spot on.

Sample collection can be virtually monitored or you go to a physical lab in Canada within 24 hours. Identification will be required for both options.

The virtually monitored option will buy you more time. The sample has to be picked up by Purolator (eg think of them as FedEx) and delivered to the lab next day for processing.

Worst case:
Arrive Monday
Test Tuesday - Purolator pickup same day
Purolator delivers Wednesday morning - Lab provide results same day. Montreal is under an hour drive to Champlain.

You still have a good 48 hours in Montreal which can be extended as illustrated in the timeline in my prior post by deciding to arrive in Canada in the late afternoon/early evening so that by the time you take the test 24 hours later, you will miss that day's Purolator cutoff time..

Thank you so much for the great insights and recommendations.

I’m planning a one night trip in Sept so my scenario is even better than the one you mention. I’ll drive from NNJ to Saratoga Springs for coffee with my former boss, and then drive up from there. I’d be at the border by 3:30p, and back out by 10a the next morning. Hopefully two appointments squeezed in in the one night I’m there. No time for a test.

Thanks. Much appreciated!

Crossed the border recently using my NEXUS pass. One of the easiest crossings of all time, even pre COVID. One simple question and off I went.

^^^^I think your timeline is little off. If you have 24 hours to submit the test you would still have time for it to be delivered, processed and then you would get your notification. Probably more like 4-5 days you’d be notified by email. If at that point your positive, pretend you didn’t get the notification and get your ass back over the border.
Pretending is the better way to have trouble next time you will try to cross the border. Bad advice!

Confirmed

With gas still over $3.50 a gallon and airfares coming down to around $300 for a round trip ticket out of NY, it's almost worth flying to Montreal again.

Does anyone know if they are still doing random COVID testing at the airports? Would hate to get quarantined in Canada.

I just got the Covid booster yesterday. Unfortunately no. Canada trips for me until I get my new passport, which expired. US State Department says 8-11 weeks so I don't expect to get it until late December at the earliest.

They haven’t done onsite testing since summer. The worst case scenario during summer was you get a test kit similar to land border.

Crossed border recently. Getting into Canada was a breeze, no ArriveCan app, no proof of negative test, nothing. Minimal questions. Just me, my car, and cash to spend on the ladies!

Just a thought, in NY we have "enhanced licenses" which allow us to cross into Canada. Maybe your state has the same?

Those being denied access to USA because not being vaccinated are just ignorant who didn't do their own serious research.
They pretend they know better than others but found they were wrong on this one at least.
