Vaccination numbers in the US are already slowly dipping and I'm sure Canada, like many other countries are lobbying the US for some of the extra vaccines that will be available in greater quantities over the course of the coming months. The quicker our friends from the North can get they're hands on them, the better. At this point, I'd be happy with a September opening, sometime or another, but I'm with EB, if I was a betting man I would say August instead since I think they'll be an influx of vaccine coming Canada's way shortly from the US

Personally, I think many are being a little optimistic about the border reopening. We have a vaccinated President who is wearing a mask on a zoom call with foreign leaders. That doesn’t sound like a guy willing to take a lot of risks. And one needs to take into consideration what a Montreal experience would be like shortly after a border re-opening.

If bars and restaurants are not open or at limited capacity, is a Montreal trip really worth it? I’m not one to stay in a hotel room booking appointment after appointment. I want to hit the bars (McLeans) and casino and catch some live music at Hurley’s or a jazz club. Will that be available immediately upon a border opening? Am I going to have to stand in line for an hour and wear a mask inside and space apart? Not so sure.

As for the US vs. Montreal escort comparison, I would argue if are lucky enough to get one of Euphoria’s most popular girls, then a trip with even a few travel restrictions could be worth it. But if you’re going to get canceled on or are able to book only the middle tier, then you’d be better staying in a place like NYC and paying $350, $375 for just about equal quality.

I didn’t even address the exchange rate and what that might be when the border reopens.

That is not correct, nothing illegal about driving across and not going to the hotel.
The problem is that you should respect the quarantine. So you do not visit (stay at home) and do not receive guest... Simple as that. So, crossing the border by car, you save the $2000 for the hotel but not the "stay at home".

To come back to the question: When will the border be open between USA and Canada? I would expect mid august if Ontario can take over the pandemy. Let suppose that 75% of Canadian received at least one dose of the vaccine by july 1st. Than we should wait 4 weeks for the immunity to take place. Remember the last vaccinated will be the younger, those in the streets, bars, etc... The hotel may get a go at this time. Anyway the festival are schedule in september.

Open it up in August. You need Eurodudes and American tourists spending money if you want that Grand Prix to make any money, otherwise nobody will be there.

No big deal when the border opens though, Canada isn't going anywhere and will be open at some point.

If the border isn't open by July, I will simply travel to another country. I waited to travel until October last year, but won't wait that long this year.

New modelling showed that restrictions could be lifted when 75 per cent of adults have received their first doses and 20 per cent have received their second doses of vaccines.

So June or July could be a possible target!

I think once the Casino in Montreal is open and no longer requires a reservation playing time, is when I'll look in to a trip across the border.

But until then I'm just going to save my money...

Stay well!

Mixed news on the border opening up. Some say the end of the month, some say early next month, others say August. Lot's of other news about a "phased" reopening that mostly affects Canadians not having to quarantine for the two weeks when returning. Good news is that the G7 is happening and there will hopefully be a discussion about it. By the numbers I think Canada is somewhere around where NY was about 3 or 4 months ago regarding reopening businesses, easing restrictions, etc. I can say from being here in NY that the past 4 months has brought quite a bit of change from not having to wear masks in certain settings, being allowed to have groups gather again (take a look at all the maskless fans at the Islanders game last night), bars and restaurants opening, etc. It's gonna get better up there in a hurry, here's hoping to a speedy transition!

August also destroys any income either sides of the border can make for the summer vacationers.

Not so sure about this one. In Quebec now about everything is sold out for the vacation. Those usually going in US already made reservation for their vacation. For the big downtown hotels in Montreal the situation must be quite different. Anyway, let's hope it is the final stretch of this marathon. I don't really mind when the border will reopen between US and Canada. It's a question of weeks or 1-2 months. I just need to be convinced that the monetary aspect is not the first criteria.

I meant the border businesses that rely on travel between the two countries will be hurt. But your point is well taken and I would agree that opening up can't be about the monetary aspect. I posted in another thread about how border closures were worked out between the US and Canadian hockey teams but not for the general public. I'm happy to see the VGN play the Habs, but I think more about the people who have legitimate reasons to have that border open again and have been overlooked. Their needs have been put to the side for almost a year and a half but a couple of hockey teams that need to play a game and all of a sudden we have people crossing the border without having to follow the quarantine rules.

Agree with you. But we have to admit that when Vegas team will be in Montreal they will stay within their own bubble. I don't expect they will be allowed by their own rules to visit Crescent street as they did before..
