According to Terri DiMonte, there will be a Springsteen show in Montreal. It just hasn't been announced yet.
Any update on this bit of news yet? (Montreal show)
I'll try to get tickets for the Ottawa show but I do imagine that they'll go fast.

I believe I read that Bruce's tour will kick off on October 2 in Hartford, CT at the Hartford Civic Center. I am going to try and get tickets for that show. It's a terrific venue, although the Mohegan Sun Casino and the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport are also excellent concert venues in Connecticut. I believe Bruce's people must have chosen Hartford because the Civic Center has a larger seating capacity (about 15,000 plus).

I saw my first concert in the Hartford Civic Center in March 1981 - Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead. The Civic Center was sold out, and the air was filled with the fumes of marijuana smoke and the riffs of Jerry Garcia's guitar.

EB,

3-14-81 to be exact. I have a copy of that show in my car. A fantastic show from that period. Highlights include China>rider, plus Althea in set one as well as a standout Bertha in set two. Of course 3-14-81 was a "saturday night" so the predictable encore of "saturday night" was played... with a lot of engery.

Mentioning that the show was sold out is kind of funny... Every single show Jerry and the Boys played in North America (between 1972 and 1995) was sold out. Every single one. These guys made more money on the road than the Rolling Stones...

BD,

You were at that show in Hartford? Yeah I know all the GD's were sold out but you have to remember for me I was a kid and it was my first concert and quite an experience. I was not a fan of the GD and only knew a few of their songs but I was deeply impressed by their sound that evening. It was a truly amazing experience and I can understand why they sold out all the time back then.

EB,

I wasn't there. I just happen to have a soundboard quality recording from that show. One thing that separated The Dead from most other bands was that they not only allowed, but actually encouraged people to make "bootleg" recordings of their live shows. They always had a taper section near the soundboard (for the best sound quality) and in the seventies and eighties they even let "preffered" tapers plug their equipment right into the sound system to get perfect first generation recordings with little to no distortion or loss of quality... The recording I have (which was transferred from DAT --digital audio tape-- to CD in the late nineties) is one of these. You feel like you're there and you can even hear people talking between songs and making some very funny comments...

I was a little too young to be there in person. I saw them a couple years later for the first time. It was NYC... 9-15-87. Liked them so much that I went back the next four afternoons and somehow bought tickets for the next 4 nights in a row (yes -- they played 6 nights in a row at MSG) -- and probably could have sold out 25 nights in row if they'd booked 'em.

Getting back to the thread... The boss is great. I hope to see him play in MTL, but I do hope he takes a page from bands like the dead on this tour -- as he has been known to do on occaission in the past -- and by that I mean that I hope Bruce makes it a little more off-the-cuff, real and improvisational. He is at his best when he's really fired up and into it. Sometimes when the whole show is staged from start to finish (and repeated night after night) it becomes a little boring for the performer and results in a less memorable experience for the fan! Just my two cents...

BD,

I happen to remember that show quite vividly even though it was over 26 years ago. Please note I was a teenager and still in high school at the time.

The unquestioned highlight of the show was "Sugaree." The sound was absolutely awesome and the whole Civic Center was singing along with the band. Go back to your tape and listen to that song again. It was absolutely incredible and the highlight of the show, by far. I went and got an album that the song was on and it did not sound nearly as good as what I heard the night of 3-14-81.

I might be interested in getting a copy of your tape as this represents significant memorabilia in my personal life. Send me a PM so we can discuss it further. Thanks.

Rumples sorry to detract from your Boss thread, we will take this up further by PM.

Where I belong.
Got great seats in Ottawa, front row, mid-way back in the hall. Opted for seats, rather than the floor, as the floor will be standing only.

Hartford, as you might expect, is sold out. You'll have to go the eBay route, Beav, though I wouldn't overpay. My sense is that scalpers cop a huge percentage of the tickets and wind up selling quite a few for pretty close to face value. There are currently 102 active auctions for Hartford alone.

There are even 5 auctions for Ottawa, which isn't sold out.
