Superchat: thoughts from the ladies

As some of you know, Merb the website offers a chat feature where registered members may drop in at any time and virtually speak with each other from all across Canada (thru Fred Zed's affiliates Terb and Perb). And due to a few members' lobbying us merbites were gratefully handed a permanent room a few months ago.

It has been my objective from the beginning to encourage our lady members' participation, and many have graced us with their occasional presence, but try as i might said presence has declined drastically recently. I'm not blind, so I have a clear idea why this has happened, but i'd like to give the ladies the anonymous opportunity to suggest improvements to make them feel more welcomed.

Gentlemen, i know some of you just won't resist clicking on the poll answers, but I'd really prefer the ladies' input to stand alone. If you men feel the need to comment, please just post a reply.

I think we have bad elements in chat that have just chased away the ladies. The men are crude in the way they describe things in chat and it's been often that we have had so much snide remarks and bickering. Also, I think the Ladies are hassled by all the PMs they get.

The Chat isn't a pick up place, nor is it a place to pick a fight with other people. I know M5 can't be everywhere and he does do his best.

I like the chat room at times

and I haven't found that it is the merb members that are a pain, it is the terbs - they are constantly IMing and I don't know if you can or how to turn that feature off. To me, if you have something private to say, email me, or create another room or whatever, but the IMing is a nuissance.

I haven't found too much trouble with the guys acting out of sorts on chat, but then again, maybe I haven't been there when the --it hits the fan.

Oliver, I am FAR from bilingual, and I have been in the chat room many times with Mod 5, at the same time. And I do not live in Montreal. So I can honestly say I am not Mod 5.

To stay on topic, I was one of the ones who helped lobby for a permanent Montreal chat room, and I always encourage members, both male and female, to participate.
