The miserable US$ to C$ exchange rate

The US dollar is below the Canadian dollar at this time plus Daydreamer is right to say it costs money to exchange the US money into Canadian. Your ATM banking card will likely work in most ATM at major Canadian banks. get Canadian money.

When I go to the US, I use my Canadian card to get US money and pay my stuff in US money. It is not even a question I ask myself. I don't see why it would be different with US residents visiting Canada thinking they can pay anything with US money once here. The person doing business in the visited country does not have to support the burden of exchanging money because we are too lazy to do it ourselves or too cheap to pay the exchange rate.

Great news, I want some mileage for my US dollar after watching it get beat down the last few years. I got spoiled when it was $1 usd = $1.50 CDN causing a "kid in a candy shop" attitude every time I was in Montreal circa 2002-2004.

Yep. It is probably short term. With the 391 pt DOW loss and more than 500 pts. today, several large investment companies were buying short term T-bills. It pushed the US currency up a bit.

Seems every time the Dow takes a tumble the USD goes up a bit against the CAD. I'd like to see it go up and stay up for a change! I did notice the USD to Brazilian reais went from $1.57 - 1.90 in the past 5 days or so. That's a good jump.

Bad 2 week trend

The US dollar spiked at a high for the year of 1.0569 Canadian on October 4, but in the 2 weeks since it has tumbled back down closer to par. Thus the euphoria in the hotel bidding thread about hotel rates coming down on bidding sites hooked into the value of the US dollar may be premature, at best. As of today 1.02, but the 2 week trend has been downwards back towards par.

Where the hell did you ever hear this? What does this have to do with the provincial elections??? The Canadian dollar's value is the same all across Canada. This is the Canadian dollar, not the Quebec dollar!!

Do elections in Connecticut or Iowa, for example, affect the value of the US dollar???

It's called lack of confidence across Canada deflating the Canadian dollar, due to a band off separatists being elected. This is not news.

Connecticut and Iowa have no plans to separate from the USA.

EB, to be totally honest with you, the Quebec elections were only followed in Quebec & by people who travel to Quebec to fuck hookers. The rest of Canada didn't really give a damn, and most Canadians do not even know who Pauline Marois is, nor do they care or want to know anything in regards to the Parti Quebecois.

Like Quebecers, the rest of Canada only cares about its own provincial elections & the federal elections. Albertans care about Alberta politics, Ontarians about Ontario politics, Manitobans about Manitoba politics, and so on. They don't give a crap about Quebec politics, nor should they.

And as far as i know, Quebec has no plans to separate from Canada, nor do the majority of Quebecers.

On another note, Sarah Palin's husband Todd used to be a member of a political party which wanted Alaska to separate from the United States. But would this have affected the Unites States currency? No.

p.s. For your information, the Parti Quebecois has been in power in the past, and as far as i know, Quebec has never separated.
