The Toronto Maple Leafs are the first NHL team worth $1 billion, according to Forbes magazine.

The Leafs, who have not won a Stanley Cup since 1967, are worth $250 million more than the next most valuable franchise, the New York Rangers.

This proves what Jerry Seinfeld already knew: COMEDY can make you rich...as this billion dollar laughingstock illustrates.

It would be interesting to see what type of formula they use to determine a teams worth.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are the first NHL team worth $1 billion.

If you play with numbers it will give their net worth vs. the no. of cups won.

24Millions per cup (Habs)
31Millions per cup (Wings)
37Millions per cup (Islanders)
45Millions per cup (Oilers)
58Millions per cup (Bruins)
72Millions per cup (Devils)
77Millions per cup (Leafs)
78Millions per cup (Penguins)
87Millions per cup (BlackHawk)
168Millions per cup (FLyers)
187Millions per cup (Rangers)

Another fun stuff :

Despite not having won for nearly 20 years the average delay of waiting for a cup is 4.3 years for the Habs.

Average years to wait per team :
6.7 (Leafs)
7.8 (Wings)
8.4 (Oilers)
10.5 (Islanders)
12.6 (Devils)
14.6 (Bruins)
15 (Penguins)
21.5 (Back Hawks)
21.5 (Rangers)
22.5 (Flyers)

Meaning the Habs should win by 2017 to keep this average.
Leafs in 2020
Wings in 2021...

But like the Leafs $1Billion those are just numbers that shows... they don't mean anything ! :D

Simple, Popularity..... example, Dallas Cowboys, NY Yankees, Toronto Maple Leafs, LA Lakers = most popular teams = highest net worth... marketing is the key and brand recognition.

The habbies are not even in the top five of the 4 major sports and likely NEVER will be.... :thumb:

It would be interesting to see what type of formula they use to determine a teams worth.

Still mixed up Iggy (since the Obama thread) ?

Popularity doesn't have anything to do with it.
It's called 'faire monter les encheres' until one poor s*cker buy into this and get f*ked totally.

We all know Forbes who is boasting for being so good with numbers came out saying they made a mistake last year by putting the Leafs at half this price. That's just a 100% error margin.

Some serious sh!t my eye !

The Habs finishing in last place last season won't help them get any higher on that Forbes list.

Here's what it cost TO's fan to be on top of the Forbes list and a mere 2 points ahead of the Habs last year :

"According to a recent survey, a Leafs game remains the most expensive night out in the National Hockey League – and it's not even close.

According to Chicago-based Team Marketing Report's annual survey (back in 2009), Maple Leafs games at the Air Canada Centre carry an average ticket price equivalent to $117.49 (U.S.) this season, more than double the league's average price of $51.41.

As for the "Fan Cost Index" – TMR's trademark calculation of the aggregate price for a family of four to attend a game – Toronto checks in at a league-high $628.29 (Canadian) or $585.57 (U.S.), an 8.4 per cent jump after last year's figure of just over $411 (U.S.) was adjusted due to a calculating error, the organization said in a release"

So as we said so many times out here it seems that Leafs fan are good at calculating errors.

"If (TV host David) Letterman did a top 10 list of things that the Leaf ownership cared about, the first 10 would be `to make more money,'"
"If the fans are willing to support this team blindly year after year they deserve to be taken to the cleaners."

Hey don't make fun of the Toronto Maple Leafs - they recently won the Stanley Cup. That is, if you consider 1967 recent!

This is a bit bewildering to me but how can NHL professional hockey players such as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins be allowed to play in the World JR, that's fucken JUNIOR World Hockey Champshionship?

You're consider eligible as a junior as long as you are between 16 & 20 years old. The Nuge is only 19.

Of course had there not been an NHL lockout this year he would never have been invited and would be playing with the Oilers.

Well, whatever else happens in the upcoming shortened season, congratulatIons to the Toronto Maple Leafs for finally seeing the light and dumping Brian Burke as GM. Good riddance!

The only disappointed people are the Boston Bruins : Burkie was only able to deliver them one Cup in his 4 years as Leaf GM.
