Actually, i don't think it's that great of a move by the Yankees as it may appear. Andrew Jones & Raoul Ibanez were playing very well in left field, and Ichiro has struggled over the past couple of seasons. Of course, this is to be expected since he's getting old.

Ichiro will be a free agent after this season & the Yankees felt they didn't have much to lose. However, the two kids they gave up might turn out to be very decent baseball players in the future.

I follow the Yanks minor league prospects very closely Doc, and DJ Mitchell is not a top prospect and is someone who is easily replaceable within the system that the Yankees have in place. He was not gonna be given a chance at cracking the Yanks starting 5 anytime soon nor in the pen unless major injuries. Speaking of the bullpen, Joba Chamberlain is way ahead of schedule and is scheduled to pitch in his 5th minor league rehab game tomorrow night and reports are that he has hit 100 mph already.

The other prospect i must say i have never heard of him, so take that for what it's worth. He was actually a Blue Jay earlier this year or was in their system at least and was let go then the A's picked him up and released him as well. Ichiro was obtained because Brett Gardner is being shut down for the remainder of the season and will have surgery on his elbow. It was a great pickup for the players sent the other way. He could play a huge role towards helping the Yanks capture their 28th Championship in October and they dont even have to pay all his salary for the remainder of the season. Is it a risk? Maybe, but a very low one with huge upside. I would make this deal 10 times out of ten and I suspect the Yanks would as well.

As far as Ibanez and Andruw Jones go, yes they were playing well, although Ibanez was slumping as of late, but they are also not spring chickens anymore and with the dog days a coming, they could of easily been worn down, now they get the rest they need to be more effective. They were never signed to be everyday players, where as Ichiro is and fills a huge void with his bat, speed and defense, even at 38.

And the Yanks are about winning now and thats what this move is mainly about as not too sure they will try to resgin Ichiro next year, depends on how things go with him and Gardners surgery/rehab.

After some consideration, i've decided to revise my position in regards to the Ichiro Suzuki trade.

Upon further examination, the trade is indeed a steal by the Yankees, considering they do have the money to pay him. The way i see it, they don't have anything to lose and probably are a better team with him in the lineup. He's still a very good defensive outfielder, he can get on base consistently, and he's still got speed. The Yankees will also have a headstart in re-signing him if they desire so.

However, i'm certain that they've done their homework & realize what kind of player they're getting. Ichiro is known thoughout major league baseball as being a fraud. By 'fraud', he's being looked upon as a player that never throughly achieved the greatness he could have obtained had he chosen to. He is still a good ballplayer with hall-of-fame numbers, and there's no doubt he will be in the hall one day. However, he's always been an extremely selfish player where he always came first before the team.

A former major leaguer today mentionned that he once watched Ichiro taking batting practice & every single one of his swings were bombs into the right field bleachers. He went as far as saying that if Ichiro would have ever decided to enter a homerun derby, he would have won every single one of them. Surprisingly, he has amazing power for someone his size. But, he also has an incredible knack to hit the ball wherever he wants & with his speed, he got on base regulary by simply making contact with the ball. This profiency with his hand-eye coordination & able to hit singles on a regular basis helped build up his personal stats to hall-of-fame levels. However, to many who've been following his career closely, Ichiro could have hit 30-40 homeruns on a regular basis had he chosen to.

He's also the type of player that will regularly steal the easy base & especially when his team(s) has a considerable lead. However, when the game is on the line & he's standing on first base, rarely would you see him trying to steal a base in order to give his team(s) a better chance to win the game. Too much risk involved for him to be thrown out and/or to make himself look bad if he ever would have got caught stealing. Stealing a base when there is nothing on the line is better for his stats, you see.

Last night, he was hitting in the 8th position. Ichiro should be hitting 1st or 2nd in the lineup. I can't see Derek Jeter allowing Girardi to take him out of the leadoff spot, so i expect Ichiro to wind up hitting 2nd.

This was a very good trade by the Yankees, considering that the two guys they gave up likely won't amount to much. One of the guys has already played for 4 teams this season alone. However, as several baseball executives said privately today, Seattle management is likely rejoicing today since Ichiro had made himself bigger than the team he played for....another aging player with a huge ego. Do not be surprised if the Mariners suddenly become a better team without him.

I love Youk for all his great contributions of the past. He was a great player for several years. But anyone who thinks trading a guy who isn't himself anymore so the team can play one with a .331 AVG and hitting at a rate of 190 hits, 41 doubles, 36 HRs, 134 RBIs, .368 OBP, 592, SLG, .960 OPS is a bad thing doesn't know anything about baseball. These are MVP consideration numbers.

I do believe that you are referring to this guy who is no longer a Red Sox as of today, if so, good call as usual, you should go back at what you do best which is sitting on the fence.

I'm sorry to disappoint u Merlot but this isn't a free for all thread, take your shenanigans elsewhere. Everyone here is discussing baseball, you're the only one who seems fixated on targeting individuals instead of discussing the game.

Very Sad,

Moneyball

Last night I saw the movie Moneyball on Netflix and really enjoyed it. There are some classic scenes in that movie. My favorite scene is the one in which Billy Beane, knowing that the A's cannot afford to keep Johnny Damon, receives a phone call from Scott Boras and realizes that Boras has "shopped" Beane's token offer on Damon to the Red Sox, who have upped the ante. Beane says "Scott, you're an asshole!" and hangs up.

A-Rod suffers broken hand; out two months

SEATTLE -- The New York Yankees will have to mix and match at third base for the next couple of months after Alex Rodriguez suffered a non-displaced fracture of his left fifth metacarpal after being hit by a pitch from Seattle starter Felix Hernandez in the eighth inning of a 4-2 loss to the Mariners.

"It's a tough blow," a somber Rodriguez said about an hour after the game ended. His left hand was heavily wrapped, and he'll fly back with the team after Wednesday's game and be checked out by the Yankees' medical staff on Thursday.

"I never thought it was a fracture, but it was."

Rodriguez grabbed his left hand with his right after being hit, and never let go even as he fell to the ground, writhing on the dirt near home plate.

Eric Chavez, who will be the man manager Joe Girardi will have at third base in the series finale Wednesday afternoon, has been down this road before.

"They told me it would be 6-8 weeks," Chavez said while recalling his own injury. "It was eight weeks to the day that I got back."

The fact that the Yankees have lost five of six to start this trip on the West Coast was nothing compared to the loss of the No. 3 hitter in the lineup for a couple of months.

Rodriguez, who is is batting .276 with 15 home runs and 44 RBIs this season, had just talked Monday about finally feeling good at the plate. Girardi had echoed those words, and now this.

"It's non-displaced, which is good," Girardi said. "But we're going to have to make some changes, which is too bad, because Alex was just starting to feel good again."

The pitch from Hernandez was a 91 mph change up and was the third pitch of his to find a New York batter. Hernandez hit three of the final five batters he faced, hitting Ichiro Suzuki in the seventh and Derek Jeter before Rodriguez in the eighth.

Jayson Nix served as a pinch-runner for Rodriguez and left-hander Lucas Luetge came in for Hernandez. Facing his third batter in relief, Luetge buzzed a pitch near Raul Ibanez's head that sent the Yankees veteran to the ground before striking out the left fielder to end the top half of the inning.

"It wasn't intentional," Jeter said of the pitch that hit Rodriguez. "It was a close game (3-1) at the time. Now we've got to step it up.

"We can't feel sorry for ourselves. It's a challenge."

Hernandez, who said his command was off all night starting with a pitch that Curtis Granderson hit for a homer in the first inning, shook his head when he heard about the injury.

"I feel bad," he said. "That's not me."

Freddy Garcia, the Yankee starter, is one of Hernandez's best friends in the game. He said he was sure Hernandez wasn't throwing at Rodriguez.

"It's too bad about what happened," Garcia said. "It's a big loss for us. The pitch just got away from him. It happens."

First baseman Mark Teixeira tried to look at the bright side.

"It's unfortunate; it's a huge loss," he said. "But we just picked up Ichiro (in a trade Monday). That means there's going to be more chances for him to play and help us."

Girardi said that Nix and Chavez would split time at third base for the time being.

Because Wednesday is a day game, it's not clear if New York can call someone up to Seattle to fill the open roster spot before the 3:40 ET start.

Toronto Blue Jays Beat Down Like Girls.

Peeeeuuuuu,

Ricky Romero, Blue Jays hit a new low against A’s

http://sports.nationalpost.com/2012/07/25/ricky-romero-blue-jays-hit-a-new-low-against-as/

TORONTO — Before the game, John Farrell said he avoids using the “ace” label when discussing starting pitchers. He called the term irrelevant.

Shortly thereafter, Ricky Romero proved his point.

The Toronto Blue Jays’ opening-day starter endured the worst start of his career, allowing eight runs in just 1 1/3 innings against the Oakland A’s. He allowed four hits and walked six.

The boos from nearly 24,000 in attendance began early in that inning and reached a crescendo as Romero walked off the field.

...Blue Jays make history with 16-0 home loss to Oakland

http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/...ays+make+history+with+home/6990304/story.html

TORONTO -- Coco Crisp hit two solo home runs and the Oakland Athletics used an eight-run second inning to extend their winning streak to seven games with a 16-0 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday.

It was the largest shutout loss in Blue Jays history.

There was more bad news for the Blue Jays. Catcher J.P. Arencibia fractured his right hand in the second inning after taking a Brandon Inge foul ball on the hand. He's expected to miss six weeks.

Arencibia finished the inning but Jeff Mathis batted for him in the second. Mathis also pitched the ninth, allowing two runs on three hits.

Toronto starter Ricky Romero (8-7) was removed after 1 1/3 innings, the shortest start of his career. He was charged with eight runs on four hits and six walks (one intentional) in losing his sixth start in a row. His earned-run average in the six losses is 10.48.

The shortest start of the left-hander's career before Wednesday was 2 1/3 innings against Boston on July 9, 2010. It was the fourth consecutive start in which the Blue Jays have not scored a run in support of Romero.

A.J. Griffin (3-0) held the Blue Jays (48-49) to three hits and no runs in six innings to win his third start in a row.

Chris Carter hit a homer, one of three Oakland solo homers against reliever Drew Carpenter, and drove in three runs. The A's are 16-2 in July.

Jonny Gomes walked and scored from first on a two-out double by Yoenis Cespedes to give Oakland a 1-0 lead in the first.

Oakland (53-44) scored eight in the second, started by a walk to Derek Norris. With one out, Jemile Weeks walked. Crisp singled to left and a run scored when Travis Snider overran the ball for an error. Gomes singled in one run and Josh Reddick doubled in another.

Cespedes was walked intentionally to load the bases and Romero walked Carter to force in a run. Chad Beck replaced Romero and gave up a two-run double to Inge. Norris singled in a run and a run scored when Brandon Hicks grounded out to make the score 9-0.

Crisp led off the third against Carpenter with his fourth homer of the season.

He homered against Carpenter again with one out in the fifth. It was his first multi-homer game this season and the third of his career.

Carter hit his sixth homer of the season with one out in the sixth.

Cespedes doubled in a run and Carter scored another with a groundout as the A's scored twice, one earned, in the eighth against Aaron Loup.

My God, 8 runs in 1.1 innings, someone flush these pathetic Toronto teams...such a WASTE!!!.

RED SOX 8, YANKEES 6

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/b...vicente-padilla-resume-feud-article-1.1124142

Curtis Granderson misplayed a drive by Boston’s Pedro Ciriaco in the ninth inning and the Red Sox scored the go-ahead run on the gift triple in an 8-6 victory over the Yankees Saturday at the Stadium.

One inning earlier, Mark Teixeira and Vicente Padilla renewed their ages-old feud when Teixeira pounded a two-run homer that tied the score and then admired the blast as it disappeared into the right-field bleachers.

Teixeira watched the ball soar, taking small steps before finally breaking into a trot.

The Yankees rallied from a 6-1 deficit, which the Red Sox built by pounding an ineffective CC Sabathia. Boston scored three times in the first inning against the Yankee ace, who now has an 8.00 ERA in the first inning.

Teixeira’s home run tied the score at 6 and set the Stadium crowd of 49,573 into a frenzy because everyone knows the backstory between the players, who despise each other.

Earlier this month in Boston, Teixeira hit a go-ahead, two-run triple off Padilla and then blasted him for being a head-hunter.

To quote Curtis Granderson...ahem..."DOOOOHHH!!!"

Hmmm, the Red Sox have sucked for several games...they had the hapless and maybe messed up Lester on the mound with a 5.49 ERA...6 replacement players (of course Middlebrooks can be considered a starter) in the lineup...the Sox are in last and sinking...they're facing the 1st place Yankees fat $23 million ace...and it's at that atrocious navy blue land fill...and still the Sox WIN.

Now someone help Granderson find his glove.

Deleted but not forgotten.

Yeah right, and you love to cry about others not posting on subject.

Hold the pinstripe juice fans!!! Was that the same Felix Dubront who had his worst outing of the year last time holding the 1st place Yankees to just 4 hits and 1 run...then the Yankee pseudo phenom Robertson BLOWING IT in the 10th.

Yankees fall to Red Sox 3-2 as Bobby Valentine ejected just before Boston takes lead
...but Dave Robertson gives up go-ahead run to Red Sox in 10th after controversy.

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/b...e-ejected-boston-takes-lead-article-1.1124611

RED SOX 3, YANKEES 2 (10 INNINGS)

For all the names in the Red Sox lineup, Pedro Ciriaco is proving to be the biggest Yankee-killer this season.

Ciriaco delivered the game-winning hit for Boston, his bloop single in the 10th inning lifting the Red Sox to a 3-2 win over the Yankees.

Ciriano is now 11-for-22 with six RBI in five games against the Yankees this season.

The win was Boston's third in nine games against the Yankees this season, giving them their first series victory in three tries.

The Yankees had torn the cover off the ball during the first eight meetings between the rivals this season, scoring at least five runs in each game while averaging an incredible 8.1 runs per contest.

That offense was nowhere to be seen Sunday night, as Felix Doubront held them to one run over 6 1/3 innings, the lefthander's lone mistake coming on Russell Martin's seventh-inning solo shot - the only run the Yankees would score against the southpaw.

Martin gave the Yankees new life in the eighth with a game-tying single against Alfredo Aceves, handing the former Yankee his fifth blown save of the season.

But Boston bounced back in the 10th against Dave Robertson, getting the game-winning hit from Ciriaco minutes after Bobby Valentine was ejected for arguing with umpires who ruled Will Middlebrooks swung at a ball that wound up hitting him.

Aceves was able to finish the job this time, closing out the Yankees in the 10th to give the Red Sox their first series win in three tries against the Bombers this season.

The loss dropped the Yankees to 60-41, trimming their lead over the Orioles to 7 ½ games in the American League East. Baltimore opens a three-game set in the Bronx Monday night.

Hiroki Kuroda pitched eight superb innings in a no-decision, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk, striking out four. Kuroda is 7-1 with a 2.46 ERA over his last 12 starts, his last loss coming back on June 19.

Boston used a leadoff single by Adrian Gonzalez and a one-out Jarrod Saltalamacchia walk to set up Ryan Sweeney's two-run double, giving them a 2-0 lead in the second against Kuroda.

Doubront experienced some blips in his command, issuing five walks between the second and fourth, but those free passes accounted for pretty much all of the Yankees' offense through five innings as Nick Swisher's one-out single in the second was the Bombers' lone hit during that stretch.

Kuroda escaped potential trouble several times, getting four double plays to aid him in his eight innings of work.

Martin finally put the Yankees on the board with a solo blast to right field, his 12th of the season. The home run cut Boston's lead in half and energized the Stadium, bringing the crowd to life after six relatively quiet innings.

Ichiro Suzuki reached on an infield single to put the tying run on base, then stole second with one out to move into scoring position.

With Matt Albers on in relief of Doubront, Derek Jeter singled to right, but third-base coach Rob Thomson held Ichiro at third, showing respect for Sweeney's arm in right field.

Lefty Andrew Miller came in and retired Curtis Granderson on a shallow fly to left, then got Mark Teixeira to ground out to second, stranding the tying run 90 feet from home.

Martin's single tied the game in the eighth, eventually moving to extra innings. Robertson walked Saltalamacchia to open the 10th, then appeared to hit Middlebrooks, but umpires ruled that he offered at the pitch with a bunt attempt.

Valentine argued the call until he was tossed - Josh Beckett was also ejected for arguing from the dugout - sending the manager to his office to watch the game-winning rally.

Middlebrooks singled, then Sweeney hit into a fielder's choice, putting runners at the corners. Ciriaco blooped a single to right, scoring Saltalamacchia to give the Red Sox the lead for good.

Ivan "Super Nova" CRUSHED!!!
BLOWS 5-Run Lead in 1/2 An Inning.

Hello all,

Yes, the same team Joe.t and this boards other Yankee fans anointed as WS Champs during spring training totally collapsed 1/2 an inning after taking a strong 5-0 lead in the 1st inning. The cause was the same pitcher the same drooling fans continually referred to as Super Nova in 2011 and promoted like the next Sandy Koufax. Since the Red Sox put the Yankees into a tailspin they've lost 4 straight in the big blue dumpster...that Ruth never played in. :eyebrows:

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/Orioles-11-Yankees-5-63911305

Ivan Nova allowed a career-high nine runs in five innings for New York, which tied a season-worst skid with four straight losses and made some dubious history in the process. According to STATS, LLC, the Yankees haven't led by five or more after the first inning and then trailed after the second since at least 1918. The Yankees have lost nine of 12.

Cheers friends,

Merlot
