Riemsdyk rides again with 2 goals - 1 assist.....he is on fire dans une autre victoire des Leafs. Malkin scores his 40th goal aginst the Habs....another great season.

JVR is certainly on fire & there's no doubt he'll be one of the most sought-after unrestricted free agents on the market come July 1st. The Leafs are likely not to re-sign him (a big mistake in my opinion) and he'll be free to go to the highest bidder. He's big, quick, rarely misses games & is a regular 30-goal scorer year after year.

If i were the Leafs i'd sign him for 2-3 years and then trade him for something if they're not interested in keeping him. However JVR would likely prefer to go on the market and be the one choosing where he'll get to spend the next few years.

Laine seems to be more durable than Matthews, this because Matthews plays a little bit crazy at times and exposes himself to unnecessary hits. The ability to stay on the ice is itself a talent that is not to be underestimated. Guys who are frequently on the hockey inactive list, much like their baseball counterparts who are always on the disabled list, are of no help to their teams.

Laine missed considerable time due to a concussion last season & i remember when many were wondering if he wasn't injury-prone.

Matthews is out with a separated shoulder, an injury which can happen to anyone. He'd be back in action if the games counted. But the Leafs are in limbo in the fact they likely will not be able to move up or down in the standings so they're taking their time bringing back players from injury. They want their stars to be playoffs-ready and would tonight's game mean something in the standings i'm absolutely certain Auston Matthews would be in tonight's lineup. But as i said the Leafs have the luxury of being able to take their time & let him rest for another couple of games. Same thing with the great Frederik Andersen who's been nothing short of phenomenal all season long. He's been playing a lot this season and he deserves a break prior to the playoffs starting next month.

Matthews would have played had the game meant something for the Leafs, so the team has chosen to sit him out for another game or two in order for him to be 100% when he returns. The Leafs can score anyways without him in the lineup. So many scorers in that lineup!

Now i'm hearing that Toronto will take a crack at signing John Tavares during the offseason. Maybe that's why they haven't been in a hurry to re-sign the likes of JVR, Bozak & Komarov. To save cap money in order to sign Tavares and have him centre one of the top two lines in Bozak's spot.

Laine

All I know is that Laine is there for his team every game and right now he is 2nd in the NHL in goals with 41 goals, behind Ovechkin who has 42 and ahead of Malkin who has 40. This from a 19 year old kid. He is obviously very good and comes to play every game.

The Bruins are on a mission...big win over Lightning 3-0.....wow.....they play with such determination et agressiveté...Rick Nash est une bonne acquisition...talent et surtout expérience.

Another big night for LAINE with 2 goals...with now 43 he tied OVI....exciting. And what about MacKINNON...again 2 goals 1 asist yesterday. For me without hesitation he is the MVP this year....this player is so talented and fun to watch.

No Crosby--Stamkos around....he did all only by himself.....et quel fabriquant de jeu...unique. Plus he is a humble guy....he has my vote :yo:

There is no doubt that Patrick Laine is a heck of a scorer and the reputation he had prior to be drafted that he was a player similar to Alex Ovechkin proves that the experts were correct. Alex Ovechkin may also just be the most prolific goal scorer in history if you consider that he already has 600 goals and most of those goals came in an era of a low-scoring league when he had to deal with defensive hockey systems and better goaltending than his predecessors.

But the real story this year in regards to goal scoring is William Karlsson of the Vegas Knights who currently has 39 goals. This is amazing considering Vegas picked him up from an unprotected list and virtually any NHL team could easily have made a deal with the Knights in order to obtain him after the draft had they chosen to.

Karlsson previously played for Anaheim and Columbus prior to be left unprotected by the Jackets. What were they thinking??

Bad news for the Jets...Laine was injured and left the game....let's hope it's not too serious....Jets need him.

No big deal. Auston Matthews wasn't dressed tonight. The Leafs brass are keeping him out in order to avoid paying some of the bonuses which would have been owed to him in regards to games played. Matthews is ready to come back but he'll miss another game.

Life often goes full circle and the NHL is no exception. Remember how good the Red Wings were once? Now they're a joke. Same thing with the mighty Montreal Canadiens, who couldn't beat a top junior hockey team right now. Look at the Edmonton Oilers and all their consecutive Stanley Cups. Once again they're out of the playoffs. Look at how ridiculous the Penguins were at one time and over the past 20+ years they've been a consistent force in hockey. And take the Maple Leafs....they were a joke for most of the 80's and struggled to make the playhoffs a few years ago. Now they're among the top teams in the NHL.

Life works in many mysterious ways. And as i said previously the NHL is no different.
