No it never happened....BUT i really believe in Caps this year.....should be exciting with so many talented players.
With the Leafs winning again i've got more & more money entering my wallet so i'm all for that. However i still predict that the Bruins will beat the Leafs & it'll be either them or Tampa representing the East in the Stanley Cup finals. That's a prediction i made prior to the start of the playoffs and i'm sticking by it. In the West i see either Nashville or the Peg representing the West.
As for myself i do not believe in the Capitals very much. They lost two defencemen in Alzner & Schmidt during the offseason which is never good. Say what you want about Karl Alzner but he played fairly well with the Caps. Schmidt is a defenceman i would have liked to have in Toronto. But the Caps are basically the same team as last year's and they barely beat the young Maple Leafs in the playoffs. Barely. Therefore i'd be shocked if they beat a loaded and healthy Penguins team. I hate guarantees since they make people look foolish after making them & failing but this time i'll guarantee that Pittsburgh will beat Washington. Put big money on it.
The Leafs are playing very well as a team & are a different team when playing disciplined hockey. Strong goaltending has been the key for them all season long (and i do agree with Don Cherry that Freddie Andersen is the non-official Vezina trophy winner) and it's no different in the playoffs. Boston's veterans have been key to their success all season long and their age may be starting to show. Sure Bergeron is likely playing injured but that's all part of hockey and of course it's also part of the aging process. Older players get injured easier.
I have no clue what will happen in Boston tomorrow night. Toronto has the momentum and the confidence to beat the Bruins. The Bruins have home ice but they must be somewhat demoralized about the Leafs coming back from a 3-1 deficit in the series. A few years ago the same thing happened and the Leafs were ahead 4-1 halfway into the third period in Boston, only to have the Bruins come back and win the game in overtime. I believe Bergeron scored the winning goal in that game. But most of the players who played in that series are no longer on the Leafs team and have been replaced by the likes of Matthews, Nylander, Marner, Brown & Hyman and the veterans are now named Kadri, Reilly, Marleau & Hainsey. And the starting goalie is named Frederik Andersen, not James Reimer.
I also have a lot more faith in Mike Babcock than i ever had in Randy Carlyle. I can't see a Babcock-coached team surrendering a 3-goal lead halfway into the third period.
