Phil Kessel makes is anticipated debut tonight against Tampa, not having played a game in 5 months. He'll be on a line with Jason Blake & Matt Stajan.

I was watching Coach's Corner last night (recorded Saturday's game that i attended) and Don Cherry mentionned that if he'd be the team's coach, as crazy as it sounds, he'd put Blake as Kessel's centerman. He added that to him, Blake always looked like he could play center & have another speedy winger on their line (Bozek, Stalberg, Stempniak, Hagman, etc) would make it one of the league's fastest lines. Personally, i can't see Stajan on the same line as those two. But right now, he's the best they've got.

geez Doc, seems this is exactly what i was saying to you last night, lol... and i didnt see coach's corner either saturday because i was to busy watching a great game at the bell centre also.... i guess great minds do think alike :p

i say Blake,Kessel, and Stalberg would make the fastest line in ALL of the NHL, and extremely skilled as well....

i'm tired of all the negativity coming from Wilson since day 1 of his hiring. He rarely will praise someone & what i don't like is the fact he's badmouthed his players to the media on an almost regular basis. This kind of stuff should be done behind closed doors. What i'm afraid might happen is the fact some free agents might prefer staying away from a team coached by the likes of Ron Wilson. If it'd be me, i'd rather be playing for a Gabby Boudreau type....a John Anderson....Dan Byelsema....an Alain Vigneault....a Pat Quinn. A Paul Maurice type. Wilson is the total opposite of what Pat Quinn & Paul Maurice were. Coaches who were respected by their players. Coaches who often praised their players for their hard work & if you worked hard, you'd have your spot on their teams anytime. Coaches who would point out the positives that came out of a disappointing loss.

I never heard this guy Wilson speak a word until I saw him interviewed about Kessel over the weekend and I said to myself, "what a snotty prick this guy is." I mean he was being asked obvious, straightforward questions and he could not handle them without answering in a snotty fashion. If he did this in New York, they would devour him like a hungry pack of wolves savaging an elk carcass. Then I saw the video posted by GoHabsGo in which he was asked a simple question about penalties and instead of answering "yes, it irritates me", he said "yes, it irritates me, just like your question irritates me Howard", and then he proceeded to berate the reporter for questioning his integrity, apparently in an article the reporter had written. So I am saying to myself, this guy has a very thin skin to be interpreting things so personally and to be taking personal shots at the reporters. I can imagine it is only going to get worse for him as the Leafs' losses continue to mount.

Regarding Kessel, he kept giving the same rude non-answers. Most coaches and managers of sports teams at least go through the charade of trying to give a reasonably thoughtful analysis of the question but I saw zero effort to do this from Wilson. Instead, he was terse and intentionally rude. I am really surprised anyone would make this guy head coach of a professional hockey team.

I also saw the Canadiens coach interviewed over the weekend, but since the interview was conducted in French, I have no idea what he was saying.

so Bill Parcells gets a "pass" cause he won you a super bowl? i do believe Bill coached in the big apple and was one of the worst at berating the media when he was having a bad day.....

I have watched alot of Wilsons interviews and he is usually mild mannered with the media and like i said before, EVERYONE can have a bad day, you yourself said you never heard him even speak once before so how can you judge him on one time?

like any head coach in a media hungry city, he can snap and be a jerk, but he also has been very good with alot of the reporters over the last 2 years, he is human, what can i say

EDIT>>>> i was looking for some typical parcells tirades towards the media but it seems the NFL watches this stuff carefully as there are NONE at all of his famous media bashings on youtube.... but is Parcells a bad guy? nope, in all fairness he usually is funny and great to the media, just as most coaches are, but occasionally a PERSON has a bad day, such as Wilson must of been having......like i said, the man is human and this isnt the norm for him
If he did this in New York, they would devour him like a hungry pack of wolves savaging an elk carcass..

Yes. The media gave him a pass after that (they had to), but his problems with the media were mainly early in his career. Later on he figured out how to handle the New York media. And he could get away with an occasional berating because he had earned that pass. I do not believe Wilson has earned shit.

To the victor goes the spoils.

Jacques Martin is a decent person. A good guy. A former high school teacher who has always conducted himself with class. You'll never get the attitude & arrogance of a Ron Wilson with Jacques Martin. Other than a couple of uncoachable hockey players, Jacques Martin has the respect of most of his players, which is the key to getting your point across & have the players on your side & fighting for you.

true, but like i said, you have seen ONE interview with him, O N E..... cant judge a person on a bad day, well you can, but shouldnt, Wilson is a good coach and he hasnt lost the team at all, they are outplaying every team they have played the last 4-5 games even tho the wins havnt come, that says alot about the job he is doing keeping them all hustling and competing

I do not believe Wilson has earned shit.

TWO - the one I saw on TV about Kessel over the weekend, and the video posted by GHG above. He was a rude asshole in both.

I haven't commented on his coaching at all. I commented on how he is dealing with the media. Even if you are having a bad day, it is totally unprofessional to behave like he did in those two interviews.

Calm down little man, calm down! I detect some aggressivity in your post. I know that your Red Wings haven't played that good up to now, but still....

I've never (nor has Iggy) said that the Leafs were a great team. I've actually said on record that they pretty much suck right now (but with a bum like Toskala in nets, how can't they?). But the Habs suck as much, likely more. Difference has been goaltending.

But i'm not giving up on my team!!!!!! :D

Little man? Well, I admit there are lots of bigger guys than me, but at least I am 6'1. Maybe you were directing your post at Jason Blake (5'10) or your latest hero Phil (5'11) Kessel?

You were bragging for months about how exciting it is to be a Leaf fan because their future is so great. You were bragging about how they'd kick the canadiens butts. You're still - quite incredibly, given their comparative records (!!!!) - saying the leafs are better than the habs. I take it that statistical analysis was not your major in school.

As for the Wings, I think they're out of the Cup picture for the next couple of years. They are the classiest organization in hockey, have the best ownership by a country mile, have the best GM the NHL has seen since Sam Pollock, and have one of the top 2 or 3 coaches currently in the game...but they are a victim of their own success.

Due to the staggering amount of success the Wings have had, they are now facing the same problems as all successful teams: an ageing roster and difficulty keeping so much extraordinary talent in a cap era. (They also have a little problem called Chris Osgood!)

One of the many differences between a well-run organization like Detroit and a sad sack bunch of losers like Toronto is that Detroit knows the meaning of rebuilding and good drafting. (Oh yeah, they also have the best scouts in the business.) Detroit has 4 Cups since 97; TO has zero since 67 - the Leafs don't deserve to be in the same league. In fact, the leafs don't even deserve to be in the same league as the habs!

alot of coaches have done the same thing, even in media crazy NY, and they still coached and in some cases won and won big, ala Parcells, and had i tuned in for the first time ever and seen one of parcells arrogant rants i would probably feel the same as you, so no harm no foul

TWO He was a rude asshole in both.

can you take this to the other hockey thread like Mod 8 asked? your post is clearly trying to entice doc into something that is not what this thread is about, ty

In the hockey mecca that Toronto is...

Thanks Doc, I just learned something: I never realized until I read your post that the word "mecca" means "hell"!

Calm down, Doc, calm down. The rest of your post actually made a lot of sense. I didn't quote it because it's too long, but you're 100% right in finally realizing that Ron Wilson should be given the axe. He's the wrong man to coach the Leafs...or ANY team for that matter.

How this clown has managed to stay employed so long is a mystery. Even with a good team like San Jose he was unable to take them anywhere, and with a truly bad team - well, we're seeing the results right now: one for October!

No it's not. It's a polite and accurate response to Doc's post.

its sarcastic and not what this thread was created for, if ya wanna argue and be like that, gsg's thread is for that..... ty

Actually, I'd say it's much more polite than calling someone "little man" as Doc did, or calling someone "rookie" as you have been known to do.

My post is serious, accurate, polite and relevant. Sorry, but there is no problem with it.

the Mod asked for a "clean up" in this particular thread, and since his/her request (are you a boy or girl mod8?, LOL, just curious) you are the only one to challenge him/her, so go to the other thread and be a bad boy there....... leave this for what Doc originally wanted, clean discussion w/o the bickering and sarcasm...... if i agreed to play along, so can you, fair enough?

Kessel played great tonight....

Incredible that he hadn't played in 5 months!

He played nearly 24 minutes, looked great out there & had 10 shots on net!!

The Leafs have to be the team with the most bad luck in the entire NHL these days......I still can't believe the two goals Tampa scored....

As for the Habs, they shocked me by losing & i could have won $100 if they had beaten Atlanta by 2 goals!!!

now now Doc, play fair, thats hitting "below" the belt , so to speak :D

Kessel Looked great indeed! except for the hit he took but he showed how tough he really is...... nothing about his game looked rusty besides his head being down on that hit, the whole flow of the offense was better on every line, but we couldnt buy a goal, Tampas goalie was as amazing as the Monster was.....

How did Price look tonight?, i didnt see much of the game
I know you're over 6 feet tall...but maybe i was referring to 'something' else. :D
